Julie Deborah Kavner (born September 7, 1950) is an American film and television actress, comedian and voice actress. She first attracted notice for her role as Valerie Harper's character's younger sister Brenda in the sitcom Rhoda for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She is best known for her voice role as Marge Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons. She also voices other characters for the show, including Jacqueline Bouvier, and Patty and Selma Bouvier.
Known for her improvisation and distinctive "honeyed gravel voice," Kavner was cast in her first professional acting role as Brenda Morgenstern in Rhoda in 1974. She received the Primetime Emmy Award in 1978 and three more nominations for playing the character. Following Rhoda, Kavner was cast in The Tracey Ullman Show, which debuted in 1987. The Tracey Ullman Show included a series of animated shorts about a dysfunctional family. Voices were needed for the shorts, and the producers decided to ask Kavner to voice Marge. The shorts would eventually be spun off into The Simpsons.

She doesn't plan to look for a replacement job for a while, since she figures that money given to her by her father almost ten years ago and which has been in the bank since then, will keep her going for a while. However, she soon learns that that money has not earned nearly as much interest as she thought, meaning that she probably has enough to last for less than a month and that she'll have to start looking for a job immediately. She is confidant at the start of her job search, but quickly gives up on trying to find a job and as such gives up on life. Several people try to help Brenda manage ...

Rhoda is happy for her until she hears more about postman Jimmy: that he lives in Brooklyn but that he and Brenda always meet at an unusual location like the bus depot, they always have their dates in New Jersey, and that they can only meet once a week on Thursdays. In Rhoda's mind, this information means he's hiding something, namely that he's already married. This thought is solidified in Rhoda's mind when she learns that Jimmy currently has a bandage on what would be his wedding ring finger. Rhoda asks Joe for his advice, he who thinks that Brenda is old enough to make her own mistakes. In other wor...

She received a brochure in the mail advertising a weekend single's retreat at a mountain resort, which she now plans to attend with Brenda. Brenda is somewhat determined to have a good time. Rhoda later learns in quick succession three items: that her wallet also fell out at that time, the wallet which is now gone; that Carlton found the wallet, but gave it to the man in the taxi; and that the jewelry store down the street was robbed just as they were coming home. Rhoda comes to the conclusion that the man in the taxi was the jewelry store thief, he who now has her wallet, therefore knows where she lives, and know...

Rhoda later learns the true extent to which Ida will go to meet Joe. Rhoda S01E08 - Rhoda's Wedding: Part 1 : It's two days before Rhoda and Joe's wedding. One item still of contention between Rhoda and Ida is the wedding itself. Ida wants a larger wedding than Rhoda has planned, and takes steps to ensure she gets what she wants without Rhoda being able to do anything about it. Regardless of whether Rhoda or Ida gets her way on this item, the wedding may end up being just slightly larger than Rhoda planned if only because beyond Mary and Georgette being invited and coming in from Minneapolis for the festivities, three additional people decide to come from Minneapolis as well: Lou, Murray and Phyllis. The story is enough for Ida to take that interview to the next step at least to let the Coopers take a look at her apartment. But upon Mr. Cooper's arrival at her apartment, Ida learns his story was not quite true: there is no longer a Mrs. Cooper, who recently passed away. Mr. Cooper saw in Ida's ad a ho...
