Anglo’s redundancy stunt could be unlawful action against German Creek Mine Workers
The CFMEU Mining & Energy Division QLD District met with representatives from Anglo American on Friday. The CFMEU warned impending forced redundancies as announced by the company may represent potential adverse action against employees who have been engaged in protected industrial action under the Fair Work Act 2009.
Anglo's forced redundancies reek of corporate greed
Up to 80 Queensland miners will be made redundant by Anglo American in a hostile ambush that follows over two months of protected industrial action by the German Creek mine workers.
CFMEU Mining and Energy Division QLD District Vice-President Glenn Power, said this is yet another blow for workers who have tried to bargain in good faith with the company for the last three years since the expiration of their former agreement.
Tribute to Digger Murphy, proud Union pioneer
The passing of 97-year old Charles (Digger) Murphy on 23 September represents the end of an era for Queensland and Australian coal mineworkers.
Digger, as he was known to his family and friends, was a former President of the Queensland District of the Miners Federation and the pioneer for women’s participation in the coal industry’s production workforce.
