Joel David Coen (born November 29, 1954) and Ethan Jesse Coen (born September 21, 1957), collectively referred to as the Coen Brothers, are American filmmakers. They have directed more than 15 films together, that are often characterized as being "genre-busting", having covered comedy, crime, the Western, horror, thriller, gangster, drama, romance, adventure, and features of neo-noir.
Their films include Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), Miller's Crossing (1990), Barton Fink (1991), Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), No Country for Old Men (2007), Burn After Reading (2008), A Serious Man (2009), True Grit (2010), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), and Hail, Caesar! (2016).
The brothers write, direct, and produce their films jointly, although until The Ladykillers (2004), Joel received sole credit for directing and Ethan for producing. They often alternate top billing for their screenplays while sharing film credits for editor under the alias Roderick Jaynes. They have been nominated for thirteen Academy Awards together, plus one individual nomination for each, winning Best Original Screenplay for Fargo and Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for No Country for Old Men.

How do you film a conversation? Most likely, you’re going to block the actors, set up the camera, and do shot/reverse shot. But where do you put the camera? What lens do you use? And how do you cut back and forth? Today, I consider the Coen brothers — Joel & Ethan — and see how these choices lend a particular feel to their version of shot/reverse shot. Directors Joel Coen and Ethan Coen discuss "Inside Llewyn Davis," their new film about a week in the life of a young singer navigating the 1961 Greenwich Village folk scene. Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he struggles to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles—some of them of his own making.

Read your free e-book: http://installapp.us/mebk/50/en/B00OLG9V3Q/book Joel and Ethan Coen have written and directed some of the most celebrated American films of the last thirty years. The output of their work has embraced a wide range of genres, including the neo-noirs Blood Simple and The Man Who Wasnt There, the absurdist comedy Raising Arizona, and the violent gangster film Millers Crossing. Whether producing original works like Fargo and Barton Fink or drawing on inspiration from literature, such as Charles Portis True Grit or Cormac Mccarthys No Country for Old Men, the brothers put their distinctive stamp on each film. In The Coen Brothers Encyclopedia, all aspects of these gifted siblings as writers, directors, producers, and even editorsin the guise of Roderick Jaynesare discusse...

Read your free e-book: http://installapp.us/mebk/50/en/B00W0LW5T6/book The films of the Coen brothers have become a contemporary cultural phenomenon. Highly acclaimed and commercially successful, over the years their movies have attracted increasingly larger audiences and spawned a subculture of dedicated fans. Shunning fame and celebrity, Ethan and Joel Coen remain maverick filmmakers, producing and directing independent films outside the Hollywood mainstream in a unique style combining classic genres like film noir with black comedy to tell off-beat stories about America and the American Dream. This study provides an overview of the films of the Coen brothers, including multiple-oscar winning movies like Fargo and No Country for Old Men, as well as cult favorites such as O Brother, Where...
Read your free e-book: http://installapp.us/mebk/50/en/B00T9912XC/book The films of Ethan and Joel Coen have been embraced by mainstream audiences, but also have been subject to intense scrutiny by critics and cinema scholars. Movies such as Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, and Raising Arizona represent the filmmakers postmodern tendencies, a subject many academics have written about at length. But is it enough to reduce their features as expressions of postmodernism or are there other ways of viewing their worknot only their individual films but their entire output as a collective whole? In Constructing the Coens: From Blood Simple to Inside Llewyn Davis, Allen H. Redmon looks beyond the postmodern sensibilities of every film written and directed by the Coens to find an unexpected range ...

We haven't had to defend anything to anybody. We tend to do period stuff because it helps make it one step removed from boring everyday reality. I mean, Joel talks to the actors more than I do and I probably do production stuff a little more than he does. We wouldn't have done it if we didn't think we could have fun with it. Like any kind of writing, there are good days and frustrating days. But even frustrating days can be rewarding sometimes. It's more interesting for me as an audience member to see a movie about a loser.
In advance of our more in depth expose on the soul-threatening perils of drug abuse, I am sharing a snippet of my research. Content from this video is from The Big Lebowski (1998), written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
Opening Lyrics
open your eyes
open your mind
open the world inside
Main Lyrics
when it's all there for you...
you should know, only you
you should know that
only you can open.
Complete Lyrics
open your eyes
open your mind
open the world inside
you've been here before
to crawl on the floor
no room anymore to hide
when its all there for you...
you should know, only you
you should know That
only you can open.
you're hoping you're right
you're open in life
so how did your fear survive
alone on a cliff, waiting to fly
hoping the Word wont lie
when it’s all there for you
You should know…
I looked in your eyes
i looked in your heart
i saw the whole world inside
and it's all there for you
you should know…
