John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager; his first band, the Quarrymen, evolved into the Beatles in 1960. When the group disbanded in 1970, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance", "Working Class Hero", and "Imagine". After his marriage to Yoko Ono in 1969, he changed his name to John Ono Lennon. Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean, but re-emerged with Ono in 1980 with the new album Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.

http://gravityworld.tv/Video_Content/lennontoronto.html It was a pleasantly warm September afternoon in London circa 1969 when I dropped in at the Apple Corps offices on Savile Row — not knowing that music history was about to unfold. I'd come in to confirm an interview with George Harrison that had been scheduled after the weekend to discuss the about-to-be-released Abbey Road album. But hearing me chatting in the corridor outside the Bag One offices — I had interviewed him earlier that year in Canada — John Lennon called me in for "some advice." Can you imagine? The honor of being asked by a sage such as John for any kind of advice . . . Turned out that a Toronto promoter named John Brower was on the phone trying to convince John and Yoko they should attend a September 13 music...

"The Day John Lennon Died" (documentary 2010) is a look at Lennon and his death through archival footage and interviews. Someone once said to me when politicians are assassinated it's one thing, but "when they start killing the artists," it's a bad sign. John Lennon's loss was certainly devastating, and I'm not sure it could have been avoided. Perhaps it might have been delayed, though. He was a man who loved New York, loved walking down the street. He didn't have bodyguards, and he signed autographs outside of the Dakota. Part of the problem is that the security people at the Dakota apparently let people "hang out" there -- a mistake -- and another is that Lennon didn't always enter or leave the Dakota by driving directly in or out of the garage. So as the completely obsessed Mark Davi...

On the occasion of his 75th birthday, we dug up some rare John Lennon archival footage. The black and white 16mm spans an interview from the 1966 Beatles US Tour, Lennon's 1969 trip to India with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and the famous bed-in that he and Yoko Ono held on their honeymoon in Amsterdam in 1969. ↓ Read the MESSAGE FROM YOKO ONO ↓ Dear Friends, In 1969, John and I were so naïve to think that doing the Bed-In would help change the world. Well, it might have. But at the time, we didn't know. It was good that we filmed it, though. The film is powerful now. What we said then could have been said now. In fact, there are things that we said then in the film, which may give some encouragement and inspiration to the activists of today. Good luck to us all. Let's remember WAR IS OVER If We Want It. It's up to us, and nobody else. John would have wanted to say that. Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
I took my loved one out to dinner
So we could get a bite to eat
And though we both had been much thinner
She looked so beautiful, I could eat her
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
I took my loved one to a big field
So we could watch the English sky
We both were nervous, feeling guilty
And neither one of us knew just why
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
We sat and talked of revolution
Just like two liberals in the sun
We talked of women's liberation
And how the hell we could get things done
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
I took my loved one to a big field
So we could catch the English sky
We both were nervous feeling guilty
And neither one of us knew just why
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
Well, well, well, oh well
