Oregon (i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.

"We were attacked because we were holding hands." Last Sunday evening, Brad Forkner and Christopher Rosevear were walking hand-in-hand when they noticed several men behind them who were laughing and pointing. As Forkner and Roevear walked from the Hawthorne bridge (Portland, Oregon) to the trail toward the East Bank Esplanade, the men pushed and punched Forkner, then hit Rosevear in the head, face, back and ribs before they escaped. A huge white man was on the train in Portland threatening a young mother who had a toddler in her arms and calling her a nigger. EVERY SINGLE WHITE person on the train sat silently and watched. They said nothing. Finally, three young brothers, literally, they are blood brothers, intervened to get the man to move away from her. He then attacked them. These young men, Emilio Herrera, 21, and his younger brothers, Romeo, 18, and Pablo, 17 did a good thing. They wrote me this morning. Proud of you all. America. 2016. http://www.expedia.com/Portland.d178299.Destination-Travel-Guides Welcome to Portland, Oregon, where you can experience the laid-back atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest amid beautiful natural surroundings. A Portland tour is easily accomplished on foot; this city was designed for pedestrians, so you’ll be able to get around quickly. As you stroll along, you’ll find plenty of parks, fountains, and buildings old and new to explore. Be warned, this city is known for its sudden showers, so make sure you bring an umbrella to shield yourself until the sun makes a triumphant return. If you like a good brew, you’re going to love Portland’s alter-ego, Beervana – so named thanks to all the breweries located here. Wine snobs, don’t despair; you’ll find plenty to drink (responsibly) in the Willame...

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...

This is a preliminary video for our electrical engineering Senior Design Project at Oregon State. Our project is called the "Wireless Hand Sensor." It is a human interface device that allows the user to control the mouse pointer of a computer with a glove-like device that will go on their hand. In addition to the mouse pointer, the user will be able to execute computer macros. The Wireless Hand Sensor is superior to the mouse because it does not require a surface to use and because the user can seamlessly switch between controlling the mouse and doing other non-related tasks while still wearing the glove.

The death of one of the greatest legal minds in our Nation's history has brought upon more questions than answers. Why did Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia not request a security detail? Why did John Poindexter who owned an operated the Cibolo Creek Ranch in Marfa, Texas not try to resuscitate the Judge? Why was Antonin Scalia found with a pillow over his head, fully dressed, and without his clothes or bedding wrinkled or crinkled? Why did Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara not request an autopsy to rule out foul play? Why did the Scalia family not request an autopsy? Were they threatened? Why did Cinderela Guevara rule his death a heart attack and then changed it to "natural causes" even ruling on his death SIGHT UNSEEN over the telephone? Did you also know that Guevara was and i...

Oregon Experience: The Modoc War examines one of the most dramatic American Indian wars in U.S. history. The Modoc War began in November 1872 when the military tried to force a small band of Modoc Indians, led by Captain Jack, to a reservation. The Modocs took refuge in an ancient lava flow that became their stronghold. Today it is a part of the Lava Beds National Monument. The Modocs knew the land and used it to their advantage. Twisting lava tubes and hidden caves created the perfect hideout for fifty-five Modoc warriors and their families. Indian policy was the subject of national debate and many humanitarians sided with the Modocs. Then the Indians attacked a peace commission, resulting in the only U.S. General killed in an Indian conflict. The government cracked down hard, calling ...

Brian is an "obsessive craftsman" who believes he can build most anything in his life. On his Oregon farm he has built, or renovated, 5 tiny structures. After being told by the county that he couldn't erect a yurt, he built a code-approved main house "to give us a place to legally stay". Once the main house was built, he created several smaller structures (less than 200 square feet) on the property from 90% local materials. The farm is completely off the grid and Schulz points out that this doesn't mean they rely on propane or lots of photovoltaics. Nearly all their tools for living have been adapted to fit the off-grid lifestyle. For his prototype solar-powered bathhouse Schulz used recycled solar hot water panels, salvaged hot water tanks (from the dump), a solar thermal window and ...

We are imperfect human beings.
How could we live all alone?
If we put our efforts together, we'll never lose to anyone.
The power to believe in each other
Becomes hope that light up tomorrow.
I believe we can get over anything.
So please take my hand and let's walk together.
No matter what happens to us.
We can share both troubles and joy.
If we always walk hand in hand
We've nothing to be afraid of.
Uneasiness that disturb us always
Come at night when we're alone.
You're the one that saved me from the darkness.
So please take my hand and let's walk together.
No matter what happens to us.
We can share both troubles and joy.
If we always walk hand in hand
We've nothing to be afraid of.
No matter what happens to us.
We can share both troubles and joy.
If we always walk hand in hand
We've nothing to be afraid of.
-Hand in hand... Walk together...-
-Hand in hand... Walk together...-
-Hand in hand... Hand in hand...-
We are imperfect human beings.
How could we live all alone?
We will always walk hand in hand
So don't be afraid...
