Oregon is a jazz and world music group, with core members Ralph Towner (guitar, piano, synthesizer, trumpet), Paul McCandless (woodwind instruments), Glen Moore (double bass, violin, piano), and Collin Walcott (percussion, sitar, tabla)
Towner, McCandless, Moore, and Walcott met as members of world music pioneer Paul Winter's "Consort" ensemble in the late 1960s. Their contributions were seminal in establishing the Winter Consort "sound" in compositions like Towner's "Icarus."
The four musicians broke away from Winter in 1970 to form their own group, Oregon (Towner and Moore met while students at the University of Oregon). They recorded their first record in 1970, but the label, Increase Records, went out of business before it could be released. (It was released by Vanguard in 1980 as Our First Record.) The group's first release was Music of Another Present Era in 1972. With that debut and its follow-ups Distant Hills and Winter Light (all on Vanguard), Oregon established itself as one of the leading improvisational groups of its day, blending Indian and Western classical music [1] with jazz, folk, space music [2] and avant-garde elements. The group released numerous albums on Vanguard throughout the 1970s, then made three records for Elektra. After a couple years hiatus devoted to their individual projects, the group resumed recording for ECM in 1983.
During a 1984 concert tour, Walcott was killed in an automobile accident in East Germany. Oregon temporarily disbanded, but reformed by 1985 with new percussionist Trilok Gurtu, Walcott's own choice for his replacement should it become necessary. Gurtu made two further records as a member of the group, but by 1993 he had left; the group recorded two albums as a trio after his departure. With new member Mark Walker on drum kit, Oregon assumed a more conventional jazz orientation beginning with the 1996 album Northwest Passage. In 2001 the ensemble traveled to Moscow, Russia to record with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio. The recording garnered four Grammy nominations.
The group enjoys an avid and eclectic following. Apollo astronauts took a recording of Oregon's music to the moon and named two lunar craters after compositions by the ensemble "Icarus" and "Ghost Beads"

**NOW WITH HIGHER-QUALITY AUDIO** This is truly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. And apparently I'm not alone. The album from which it comes (Road on A&M; Records) has been out of print forever. Try to buy a copy (of the LP, mind you!), and you'll pay $80-$250 on ebay or online stores. You can't buy the track download anywhere that I've found...and believe me, I've looked. I've always said I'd pay good money for a pristine digital recording of the song. Why in the world a record company would not re-release this...I can't even imagine. A little of the history of the song: It was written by a talented guitarist named Ralph Towner in a hotel room in Kentucky when he was on tour in the Sixties with The Paul Winter Consort. They went on to record the song on their album, Road (1968, produced by super-producer Phil Ramone). Someone thought so much of the album that it was taken by astronauts TO THE MOON in around 1970. Two craters on the moon (Icarus and Ghost Beads) were actually named after songs on this album. The song was briefly re-released on an album called Earthdance in the Eighties, but that has long since gone the way of the buffalo as well. I have no idea why the world is being deprived of this beautiful song (there are other renditions, but not nearly as good...even Ralph Towner has been quoted as saying this this live version was the definitive recording of the song), but I've decided to share it here. If anyone has an issue with it, I'd be happy to take it down...but I sure hope that whatever party is responsible will make the song available for sale once again. 'We were on tour with Paul Winter and (the late) Colin Walcott and I were just improvising with the sitarand the 12-string in my room, in some funny little motel room in Kentucky. And I thought:: 'Whoa...what's this?' So I kicked everybody out and wrote this thing in one sitting, and orchestrated it right there...and we started playing it the next day. I liked it.'

Oregon (
i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.

**NOW WITH HIGHER-QUALITY AUDIO** This is truly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. And apparently I'm not alone. The album from which it comes (Road on A&M; Records) has been out of print forever. Try to buy a copy (of the LP, mind you!), and you'll pay $80-$250 on ebay or online stores. You can't buy the track download anywhere that I've found...and believe me, I've looked. I've always said I'd pay good money for a pristine digital recording of the song. Why in the world a record company would not re-release this...I can't even imagine. The group released numerous albums on Vanguard throughout the 1970s, then made three records for Elektra. After a couple years hiatus devoted to their individual projects, the group resumed recording for ECM in 1983.
During a 1984 concert tour, Walcott was killed in an automobile accident in East Germany. Oregon temporarily disbanded, but reformed by 1985 with new percussionist Trilok Gurtu, Walcott's own choice for his replacement should it become necessary. Gurtu made two further records as a member of the group, but by 1993 he had left; the group recorded two albums as a trio after his departure. With new member Mark Walker on drum kit, Oregon assumed a more conventional jazz orientation beginning with the 1996 album Northwest Passage. In 2001 the ensemble traveled to Moscow, Russia to record with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio. The recording garnered four Grammy nominations.
The group enjoys an avid and eclectic following. Apollo astronauts took a recording of Oregon's music to the moon and named two lunar craters after compositions by the ensemble "Icarus" and "Ghost Beads"

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next portion of my video guide I give a tour of my "crib" to show what it's like to live and stay in a tiny house.
Then, in an effort to get a chance to experience the famed brunch scene in Portland, I stopped in at The Tin Shed Garden Cafe, located down the street from where I was staying in the New Alberta Arts District.
In the interest of learning more about food, I headed to the downtown location of the Portland Farmers Market, located in a beautiful stretch of downtown Portland. Here, I got a tour of the grounds with Mona Johnson, then had the opportunity to meet up with some of the vendors, including Matt Choi of Choi's Kimchi Company, and famed chef and artisanal pickle impresario, David Barber of Picklopolis and Bingo! Sandwiches.
In need of a little peace and serenity, I then visited the Lan Su Chinese Garden, a peaceful and beautiful oasis in an otherwise busy and hectic part of downtown.
When visiting Portland, there's no reason to spend all your time in the city, especially with so much to do outside the city limits. The next day I took a road trip with local Matthew Domingo to explore the Columbia River Gorge and the numerous trails and waterfalls just off the road you can check out.
Then, to wrap things up, we stopped in at Hood River Organic near the riverside town of Hood River, an organic orchard and farm run by East Coast ex-pat Dan Thall, who gave us a tour of his land. Once the day ended we then headed out to happy hour at Solera Brewery in the imposing shadow of Mount Hood and then into town for a dinner featuring mushroom pizza with mushrooms Dan had grown and recently delivered to the restaurant.

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States.
I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti.

Part 2 of 5, of a video walkthrough for Redemption Cemetery: Grave Testimony. Our hero plays around in the outlying buildings, before entering the mine where the kidnapped woman is. The murderous miner is here, too! It seems that the minor is possessed, as part of an ancient curse. Our hero reconstructs an old amulet to bring the miner to normal, which saves the woman! Back on the island of death, our hero meets another ghost. This ghost sends our hero back in time, to prove that his wife is not a witch.

One of the things I do when I'm not in the knife shop. Chasing winter steelhead!
This video is a mashup of some winter steelhead fishing footage from early 2015. This water system has both hatchery and wild fish in it and only hatchery fish were retained. We usually fly fish but decided to have some fun with light spinning gear. We were still using my fly patterns under and indicator just like we do with fly rods in hand. I also swing but this water system is a bit small for it and fishing a vertical presentation with my egg and shrimp patterns suits it better. This river runs through a wild and stunning area and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I've got a lot more footage that still needs editing so let me know if you guys would like to see more and I'll gladly share.
