SPECIAL HOLIDAY SPECIAL ON "OREGON VOTERS DIGEST" TO PROMOTE THE WORLD ARTS FOUNDATION'S 29TH ANNUAL TRIBUTE TO DR. KING!! A Tribute to the Life & Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington D. C. World Arts Foundation, Inc. is proud to produce its 29th consecutive tribute to a great American hero and world citizen, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at The Anthem Conference Center (located at NE 172nd and Sandy Boulevard), in Portland, Oregon, Monday, January 20, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It was 50 Years ago on August 28th, 1963 that Dr. King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. That memorable day and his speech have been the backdrop of our "working hard at the intersection of education and the arts" programming. "We not only stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us, but we stand also on the shoulders of those who are among us." The 2014 Theme "Oh Freedom!" was chosen so that we can invite our audience to appreciate the sacrifices that have been made to live in a democratic society. Our focus for 2014, and beyond, is to utilize the arts in a way that amplifies the importance of educating all of America's youth about the Civil Rights movement and the people who made it happen. This year's program will include an array of community speakers from various civic and social community organizations. Program format will include digital media, high definition tape delayed broadcast by live artistic performer presentations from the civil rights era. Visual arts and digital media will be used this year to enhance our program and help develop the focus toward a younger audience. Participation will include: Public Schools, Elementary and High School students throughout the NW; Dream Village marketplace where vendors and exhibitors offer local arts, products, services and information; and much more. The entire program will be audio/video streamed on the Internet, Portland Public Schools Television Services, Portland Community Media, and KBOO Radio (90.7 FM.). "OH FREEDOM!" will showcase the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by honoring him with variety cultural expressions of song, oration, dance and drumming. Portland's annual tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is recognized regionally and nationally as one of the finest community-based celebrations in the U.S., honoring one of the most renown and respected citizens of the world. After more than a quarter century of consecutive commemorations, World Arts Foundation, Inc. humbly offers to give voice to the heritage of ordinary citizens' struggle for peace, social justice, civil rights, and human dignity. The Lifetime Achievement Awards, a traditional centerpiece in the program, recognizes individuals and organizations for exemplary community service.
