Louis XIV was born in 1638, in France. He became king in 1643 and started reforming France in 1661. In 1667 he invaded the Spanish Netherlands and engaged in the Franco-Dutch War in 1672. By the 1680s, he was public shunned and died in France in 1715.

Louis XIV (band)
Louis XIV is an American rock band from San Diego, California. The band has released four EPs between 2003 and 2007, and three albums between 2003 and 2008, the latter two of which were distributed by Atlantic Records. The band broke up in 2009, but in 2013, in an interview with The Reno Dispatch, Jason Hill confirmed that the band had decided to reunite.
Formation (2003-2004)
Lead singer and guitarist Jason Hill, guitarist Brian Karscig, and drummer Mark Maigaard formed the group in April 2003, while living in Paris, France. Bassist James Armbrust joined soon after.
Louis XIV, the band's first album, was recorded in the Spring of 2003 in a basement in the Spanish district in Paris on a 16-track tape machine. It was released in November 2003 through Pineapple Recording Group, a label started by Hill and Karscig. The album sold over 22,000 copies in the first six months after release, despite being sold only at shows, on the band's website, and in some independent record stores. The album became popular in the UK in 2004, after the band performed on the Jonathan Ross television show one week after Oasis. The band also performed on the Mary Hobbs show on BBC Radio 1. They were embraced by Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme at the 2004 NME Awards.

Plot: It's 1649: Mazarin hires the impoverished D'Artagnan to find the other musketeers: Cromwell has overthrown the English king, so Mazarin fears revolt, particularly from the popular Beaufort. Porthos, bored with riches and wanting a title, signs on, but Aramis, an abbé, and Athos, a brawler raising an intellectual son, assist Beaufort in secret. When they fail to halt Beaufort's escape from prison, the musketeers are expendable, and Mazarin sends them to London to rescue Charles I. Plot: King Louis XIII of France is thrilled to have born to him a son - an heir to the throne. But when the queen delivers a twin, Cardinal Richelieu sees the second son as a potential for revolution, and has him sent off to Spain to be raised in secret to ensure a peaceful future for France. Alas, keeping the secret means sending Constance, lover of D'Artagnan, off to a convent. D'Artagnan hears of this and rallies the Musketeers in a bid to rescue her. Unfortunately, Richelieu out-smarts the Musketeers and banishes them forever. Richelieu enlists D'Artagnan to look after and protect the young prince. Meanwhile, de Rochefort learns of the twins and Richelieu's plans, and kidnaps the twin, raising him in secret. Many years later, with Richelieu dead and the young prince crowned King Louis XIV, Rochefort launches his plan. The king is kidnapped, replaced with his twin, put in an iron mask so as not to be recognized, and led off to a remote castle to be held prisoner. Louis XIV is able to alert D'Artagnan, who realizes that only his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis can help him, so he reunites the Musketeers to derail Rochefort's nefarious plot but at a heavy toll.

The core unit of San Diego's Louis XIV had originally played together in the rootsy, alt-rocking Convoy, which issued an album called Black Licorice in 2001. Having moved on by 2003, vocalist/guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig and drummer Mark Maigaard hooked up with bassist Jimmy Armbrust and began fleshing out the Louis XIV concept -- irreverent, oversexed lyrics and songwriting that channeled glam, scratchy punk, and vintage Rolling Stones. Au cours de la guerre de Cent Ans qui opposa les royaumes de France et d’Angleterre, la ville fut donnée par le Roi Charles VII à Jean Stuart de Darnley, cousin du roi d’Ecosse. Ce grand seigneur commandait l’armée écossaise venue secourir le malheureux Charles VII en fort mauvaise posture face aux anglais après la défaite d’Azincourt.
Les descendants de Jean Stuart de Darnley et d’Aubigny conservèrent leur fief d’Aubigny jusqu’en 1672, année où leur lignée s’éteignit.
La dynastie des Stuarts d’Aubigny connut sa plus grande gloire lors des guerres d’Italie. les rois Charles VII, puis Louis XI, confièrent le commandement de leurs armées à Béraud et Robert Stuart, 4ème et 5ème seigneurs d’Aubigny, qui se lancèrent à la conquête de la péninsule.
Le style Renaissance des châteaux d’Aubigny et de la Verrerie témoignent de l’empreinte laissée par l’aventure italienne sur leurs bâtisseurs.
C’est encore aux Stuarts d’Aubigny que l’on doit l’architecture à colombages des superbes maisons du centre ville, édifiées après l’incendie qui détruisit le bourg en 1512.
Grâce aux seigneurs écossais, l’industrie et le commerce du drap sont très florissants au XVIème et XVIIème siècles. Les maisons des ouvriers employés à la manufacture sont regroupées dans les faubourgs d’Argent, d’Oizon et de Sainte-Anne. Les moulins de Prés, de Gêts et de Chaumont foulent les draps. Le désastre du système de Law provoqua malheureusement la chute de la fabrication et de la commercialisation du drap. Au XIXème siècle, ce savoir-faire s’est en partie perpétué notamment dans la célèbre chemiserie dont les locaux sont occupés aujourd’hui par la maison des associations.
La lignée des Stuarts d’Aubigny s’éteignit en 1672 et le roi Louis XIV pût alors disposer de la ville, revenue dans le giron royal. Pour être agréable au roi d’Angleterre, Charles II Stuart, le Roi Soleil fit don de la seigneurie d’Aubigny en 1673 à Louise Renée de Penancoët de Keroualle. Cette jeune femme d’origine bretonne, devenue duchesse de Portsmouth après avoir donné un enfant au roi Charles II, était l’agent d’influence de Louis XIV auprès de la cour d’Angleterre.
Ses descendants, les ducs d’Aubigny conservèrent la cité jusqu’à la Révolution Française. Le Château fut ensuite acquis par la municipalité et celui de la Verrerie, devint, à partir de 1841, propriété de la famille de Vogüé.
Sous la révolution, Aubigny avait été promu chef-lieu de district. Par ailleurs, son territoire fut divisé en deux communes : Aubigny –Ville, le bourg proprement dit et Aubigny Villages, les faubourgs. C’est au commencement du XXéme que les deux communes fusionnèrent à nouveau pour retrouver leur forme d’antan.
Enceintes et Fossés
Autrefois, la ville était entourée par des fossés. L’enceinte était percée de quatre portes et garnie de tours rondes espacées environ de 50 m. Ces fortifications datant des XIIème et XIIIème siècles, furent détruites au cours du XVIII ème siècle et les fossés en partie comblés. Il subsiste cependant sur le boulevard de la République trois tours et des pans du mur.
Aubigny Sur Nère, le pays des Ecossais
Dès 1990 la municipalité a décidé de relancer les Fêtes Franco Ecossaises esquissées en 1931 et de renforcer la relation étroite entre l’Ecosse et Aubigny, véritable vecteur de l’économie touristique. Pour ces fêtes, la ville d’Aubigny a été récompensée en 2010 par le prix « Les Etoiles du Tourisme ».
Mémorial de l’Auld Alliance, Centre de Recherche sur l’Auld Alliance, pipe band, Whisky, Fêtes Franco Ecossaises, sans oublier les courants d’échanges très vivants avec l’Ecosse sont autant d’initiatives concrètes et réussies qui ont permis, années après années, de construire une véritable identité aux couleurs de l’Ecosse. Aubigny est devenu le Pays des Ecossais.
Les fêtes Franco-Ecossaises ont lieu chaque année aux alentours du 14 juillet. Plusieurs milliers de personnes déferlent sur la ville pour célébrer avec ferveur l’amitié séculaire d’Aubigny avec les écossais.
Tattoo (défilé de pipe bands), concert, défilés historiques, campements et jeux médiévaux, campements d’highlanders et diverses animations pour petits et grands, un programme toujours très fastueux pour des festivités à l’ambiance celtique.
Le dépaysement est garanti avec un marché médiéval dans la cour du château et place du marché, accueillant jusqu’à des producteurs écossais !
Au menu de ces journées festives, des ripailles où quelques 1500 couverts sont servis. On y déguste un menu typiquement écossais dont, naturellement, le plat national : le Haggis (panse de brebis farcie)

The Man in the Iron Mask (French: L'Homme au Masque de Fer; c. 1640 – 19 November 1703) is a name given to a prisoner who was arrested as Eustache Dauger in 1669 or 1670 and held in a number of jails, including the Bastille and the Fortress of Pignerol (modern Pinerolo, Italy). He was held in the custody of the same jailer, Bénigne Dauvergne de Saint-Mars, for a period of 34 years. He died on 19 November 1703 under the name of Marchioly, during the reign of Louis XIV of France (1643–1715). The possible identity of this man has been thoroughly discussed and has been the subject of many books, as no one ever saw his face because it was hidden by a mask of black velvet cloth.
Writer and philosopher Voltaire claimed (in the second edition of his Questions sur l'Encyclopédie, published in 1771) that the prisoner wore an iron mask and was the older, illegitimate brother of Louis XIV. In the late 1840s, writer Alexandre Dumas elaborated on the theme in The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later, the final installment of his D'artagnan saga: here the prisoner is forced to wear an iron mask and is Louis XIV's identical twin.[1] Dumas also presented a review of the ideas about the prisoner extant in his time (circa 1840) in the chapter "L'homme au masque de fer" of the sixth volume of his Crimes Célèbres.[2]
What facts are known about this prisoner are based mainly on correspondence between his jailer and his superiors in Paris.

June 1st 1953, Gonaives, the city of Independence, was born Jean Baptiste Emmanuel Rossiny, known by the nickname of Ti Manno, a top-notch musician, a genius whose talent Konpa Direct multidimensional continues to transcend all generations. However, as if to prove to Victor Hugo who said in''The Age of Louis XIV''that''has a genius ... century,''May 13, 1985, Ti Manno died in New York at age 32 after a rich and eventful musical career but lasted only fifteen years.
Singer / songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist and percussionist, the great adventure begins Timanno timidly in the early '70s with neighborhood groups before lending his services to "Rhythm Devils" and "Amazing St-Marc" . He then flew to the United States of America where he joined the "Volo Volo Boston" as a singer alongside Ricot of Mazarin. At this crucial stage of his career as a singer that his talent began to emerge despite stiff competition from experienced singers of the era such as Roger M. Eugene (Shoubou), Jean Elie Telfort (Cubano), Henry Celestin Max Badette etc.. His experience with "Volo Volo" does not last long puisqu'Arsène Apollo convinces him to join the ranks of "Astros New York." In 1978, after touring with the band, he decided to return to the fold to become established and continue growing his musical career. Thus began his great adventure with DP Express. It is committed to ensure the succession of Hervé Blues singer adored by fans of the group's flagship Konpa Direct. The beginnings of Ti Manno with DP Express face enormous difficulties. Fans have problems digesting the departure of Herve affectionately nicknamed''''Boulou. They see all the colors and the young Ti Manno, despite the success of''Reality,''sung with panache by this son of Gonaives.
It was not until the release of the album''David''in 1979, followed by the resounding success and now the title track of this album to see his great dedication. All titles of''David''inflame the AM band and nightclubs as a forest fire: e, e, Ensemm Ensemm, etc. Corige. trot on everyone's lips. With this album, euphorically seized Port-au-Prince, the provinces and the Haitian diaspora in North America, the Caribbean and into French metropolis. Timanno fever is contagious and spreads to the speed of light. ''David''runs to nearly 100 000 copies. RFP Express is a full house wherever it is programmed. Timanno becomes, therefore, the Haitian artist's most popular and most revered. At the height of his popularity in 1981, he left the RFP Express and decides to form his own group, the Gemini All Stars. In summer 82,''Money,''the first album of GAS, landed in stores. There will be a great success. During this same period, his health falters and he is forced to return to the United States. His name is losing its luster s'ecliplser up temporarily in the Haitian music world. And the fateful date of 13 May has arrived. Orator of unusual crowd, he innovates constantly. As for his performances during the carnival festivities, they will remain unforgettable and school for generations to come.
Ti Manno was among the best lyricists of Konpa Direct. His lyrics deal with different subjects and expose the problems of political, social and cultural (Neg Kont Neg, Operations, Canter, Marriage of interest). It is not without reason that the nickname''The Prophet''. In addition, his writing addresses the educational system (Gen pwofesè ki pa genyen the art of explaining), becomes sarcastic vis-à-vis the traditional society (Pale french vini Tounens Mety. Konfonn Yo Fakilte Inivèsite ak) . Words that are, alas, still relevant. Ti Manno of Haiti is the singer most involved in the Konpa Direct. Unquestionably, it still represents one of the most iconic faces of Haitian music. A legend for the West Indies of Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana who annually pay homage to him. The remains of Ti manno rest in the grave 17_section 10-pin 95, Calvary Cemetery, located 49-42 Laurel Hill Blvd, Woodside, Queens in New York. Il accède au trône après le décès de son père, quelques mois avant son cinquième anniversaire. Cette émission en deux parties retrace le parcours de celui qu'on appelle aussi le Roi-Soleil, qui a régné sur le royaume de France et de Navarre pendant 72 ans. Pendant la régence, le cardinal Mazarin gère le royaume, tout en apprenant les subtilités de la politique et de la diplomatie au jeune Louis. A la mort de son ministre principal, le roi décide d'exercer pleinement le pouvoir. Il marque ainsi le début de l'absolutisme de droit divin.
