The Salt River Rafters are a baseball team that plays in the East Division of the Arizona Fall League. They play their home games at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick near Scottsdale, Arizona.
For the 2015 season, Major League Baseball teams sending players to the Rafters are: New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals.
The Arizona Fall League is an off-season league owned and operated by Major League Baseball which operates during the autumn in Arizona, United States, at six different baseball complexes. The Arizona Fall League attracts many of the top prospects in minor league baseball.
Each August, Major League Baseball clubs hold a position draft to determine the players who will go to Arizona. Most are Double-A and Triple-A Minor League players. Each club can opt to send two players below Double-A. Foreign players are allowed, as long as the player is not on his native country's primary protected player list. The league is designed for these prospects to refine their skills and perform in game settings in front of major and minor league baseball scouts and team executives, who are in attendance at almost every game. Play begins shortly after the end of MLB's regular season in early October and ends in mid-November with a championship game between the winners of the East and West divisions.
Nolan James Arenado (/ɛərəˈnɑːdoʊ/; born April 16, 1991) is an American professional baseball third baseman for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his Major League debut on April 28, 2013, at the age of 22. An exceptionally skilled defender, he has achieved the Rawlings Gold Glove Award for in each of his first three MLB seasons and is also a winner of the Fielding Bible and Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Awards for his position. In 2015, Arenado earned his first All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award while leading the National League in home runs and runs batted in.
Arenado attended El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California, where he played shortstop on the school's baseball team with fellow future major leaguer Austin Romine. In 2008, his junior year, El Toro won the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championship. He was named to the Los Angeles Times' All-Star team after leading his division with a .456 batting average, 32 runs batted in (RBI), and 33 runs scored.
Common salt is a mineral composed primarily of sodium chloride (NaCl), a chemical compound belonging to the larger class of salts; salt in its natural form as a crystalline mineral is known as rock salt or halite. Salt is present in vast quantities in seawater, where it is the main mineral constituent; the open ocean has about 35 grams (1.2 oz) of solids per litre, a salinity of 3.5%. Salt is essential for animal life, and saltiness is one of the basic human tastes. The tissues of animals contain larger quantities of salt than do plant tissues; therefore the typical diets of nomads who subsist on their flocks and herds require little or no added salt, whereas cereal-based diets require supplementation. Salt is one of the oldest and most ubiquitous of food seasonings, and salting is an important method of food preservation.
Some of the earliest evidence of salt processing dates to around 8,000 years ago, when people living in Romania were boiling spring water to extract the salts; a salt-works in China has been found which dates to approximately the same period. Salt was prized by the ancient Hebrews, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Hittites and the Egyptians. Salt became an important article of trade and was transported by boat across the Mediterranean Sea, along specially built salt roads, and across the Sahara in camel caravans. The scarcity and universal need for salt has led nations to go to war over salt and use it to raise tax revenues. Salt is also used in religious ceremonies and has other cultural significance.

Wabagishik Rapids is a beautiful 1 km stretch of rapids on the Vermilion River, about 1/2 hour west of Sudbury, Ontario. A developer is proposing to build a modified run of river hydroelectric dam that would produce enough power to supply about 1,600 homes. These types of dams have numerous negative impacts associated with them, and are very harmful to the riverine ecosystem. Check out this film to find out more.
Anglers, rafters and bird watchers have been fighting for public access of rivers and streams for decades, arguing all waterways belong to the public. But that notion rankles some private property owners, who don't want recreationalists traipsing onto their land. HB37 has been presented as a compromise, but will the bill satisfy the various parties? On Wednesday at 12:15 p.m., Kris Olson of Utah Stream Access Coalition, Randy Parker of the Utah Farm Bureau, and Tribune outdoor editor and environmental reporter Brett Prettyman join Jennifer Napier-Pearce to discuss balancing public access with private property rights. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/57512720-78/access-public-utah-streams.html.csp

Christo and Jeanne-Claude met in Paris in 1958, not long after their education at the National Academy of Art in Bulgaria and the University of Tunis, respectively. Their first project was Stacked Oil Barrels and Dockside Packages (1961) in Cologne Harbor, but perhaps their most renowned project was Wrapped Reichstag (1995) in Berlin, which swathed the iconic capital building in fabric for fourteen days. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s overt, site-specific landscape interventions have evolved from Christo’s early works. Smaller sculptural pieces that are key to his portfolio, such as wrapped cans, bottles, crates, suggestive forms, and indoor installations reveal an interest in concealment, but also in the dimensional qualities of shapes in an environment and in the process itself. It is no su...
