Oliver Cromwell (25 April 1599 – 3 September 1658) was an English military and political leader and later Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland.
Born into the middle gentry, albeit to a family descended from the sister of King Henry VIII's minister Thomas Cromwell, Cromwell was relatively obscure for the first 40 years of his life. After undergoing a religious conversion in the 1630s, he became an independent puritan, taking a generally tolerant view towards the many Protestant sects of his period. An intensely religious man—a self-styled Puritan Moses—he fervently believed that God was guiding his victories. He was elected Member of Parliament for Huntingdon in 1628 and for Cambridge in the Short (1640) and Long (1640–49) Parliaments. He entered the English Civil War on the side of the "Roundheads" or Parliamentarians. Nicknamed "Old Ironsides", he was quickly promoted from leading a single cavalry troop to become one of the principal commanders of the New Model Army, playing an important role in the defeat of the royalist forces.

To protect his liege, Sir Edmund has hid the king (the series has already proven to us that the royals are insane) in Blackadder Hall, but Baldrick unwittingly betrays the ruler when Cromwell arrives at the Hall. Blackadder decides he must save the king when he is sentenced to execution, and becomes frustrated when Baldrick cluelessly accepts a job as executioner- until he realizes he may be able to use it to save Charles...

Oliver Cromwell (25 April 1599 -- 3 September 1658) was an English military and political leader best known in England for his involvement in making England into a republican Commonwealth and for his later role as Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland. Events that occurred during his reign and his politics are a cause of animosity between Ireland and the UK. Historian Micheal Siochru reveals politician Oliver Cromwell's conquest of Ireland between 1648 and 1650, and the impact his campaigns in Drogheda and Wexford have had on the country.
Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) was an english statesman and leader. He led the puritans as general to victory in the civil war against King Charles I and gave all authority to the parliament. But in 1653 he took the power himself and ruled as lord protector over England, Scotland and Ireland. Under his reign England flourished and its rise to world power began. Although his reign lasted only for five years - until his death in 1658 - it has changed England forever. Oliver Cromwell - The Puritan Caesar

On 4 January 1642, King Charles I entered the House of Commons to arrest five members. So angered were MPs at this breach of parliamentary privilege that they slammed to doors of the chamber in the faces of the King's men. When Charles finally entered the House of Commons, the Speaker, William Lenthall, refused to reveal the location of the wanted men, famously saying: "May it please your Majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as the House is pleased to direct me, whose servant I am here." This incident lead to the English Civil War and no monarch has entered the House of Commons since. Every year this event is commemorated during the State Opening of Parliament when Black Rod tries to enter the Commons, the door is slammed in his face to symbolise the...

Oliver Cromwell is not happy when the Regulative Principle of worship is not kept. Neither should you after reading the Larger Catechism. Excerpted from the 1970 film 'Cromwell,' this clip of him in church shows a good grasp of the RPW on behalf of the scriptwriters; Cromwell actually quotes the second commandment in response to the inventions of man introduced in worship. Transcript. Cromwell: Who has done this? Answer me, who has done this? Minister: An edict, squire. From the Archbishop himself. And by order of the King. Cromwell: By order the King? Is not the Church of England a Protestant church? Would the King turn the House of God into a Roman Temple? Does the King think that God can be bought with gold, trinkets and guilded rubbish? Has this King forgotten the reformation? Away wi...

"I beseech you in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken" From Oliver Cromwell After watching the Freddie Knoller program last night I remembered an amazing interview Michael Parkinson had with Dr Jacob Bronowski in 1974 Jacob Bronowski was a Polish-Jewish British mathematician, biologist, historian of science, theater author, poet and inventor. He is best remembered as the presenter and writer of the 1973 BBC television documentary series, The Ascent of Man, and the accompanying book. After much searching and a bit of editing happy to say I got the clip I wanted. No point trying to set the clip up, all I can do is urge you to watch it and share it. Truly remarkable
