Energy markets are commodity markets that deal specifically with the trade and supply of energy. Energy market may refer to an electricity market, but can also refer to other sources of energy. Typically energy development is the result of a government creating an energy policy that encourages the development of an energy industry in a competitive manner.
Until the 1970s when energy markets underwent dramatic changes, they were characterised by monopoly-based organisational structures. Most of the world's petroleum reserves were controlled by the Seven Sisters. Circumstances changed considerably in 1973 as the influence of OPEC grew and the repercussions of the 1973 oil crisis affected global energy markets.
Energy markets have been liberalized in some countries; they are regulated by national and international authorities (including liberalized markets) to protect consumer rights and avoid oligopolies. Regulators includes the Australian Energy Market Commission in Australia, the Energy Market Authority in Singapore, the Energy Community in Europe, replacing the South-East Europe Regional Energy Market and the Nordic energy market for Nordic countries. Members of the European Union are required to liberalize their energy markets.
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore. The EMA's main goals are to promote effective competition in the energy market, ensure a reliable and secure energy supply, and develop a dynamic energy sector in Singapore.
In physics, energy is a property of objects which can be transferred to other objects or converted into different forms, but cannot be created or destroyed. The "ability of a system to perform work" is a common description, but it is difficult to give one single comprehensive definition of energy because of its many forms. For instance, in SI units, energy is measured in joules, and one joule is defined "mechanically", being the energy transferred to an object by the mechanical work of moving it a distance of 1 metre against a force of 1 newton. However, there are many other definitions of energy, depending on the context, such as thermal energy, radiant energy, electromagnetic, nuclear, etc., where definitions are derived that are the most convenient.
Common energy forms include the kinetic energy of a moving object, the potential energy stored by an object's position in a force field (gravitational, electric or magnetic), the elastic energy stored by stretching solid objects, the chemical energy released when a fuel burns, the radiant energy carried by light, and the thermal energy due to an object's temperature. All of the many forms of energy are convertible to other kinds of energy, and obey the law of conservation of energy which says that energy can be neither created nor be destroyed; however, it can change from one form to another.

The World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER) is the leading international conference on energy regulation, held once every three years. WFER IV is hosted by the Council of European Energy Regulators CEER and the Greek Regulator. WFER IV will be held in Athens, Greece, from 18 to 21 October 2009. It builds on the themes and key findings of the past three World Fora, held in 2000 (Montreal) 2003 (Rome) and 2006 (Washington).
The WFER IV will provide a global conference and networking opportunity attended by more than 700 presidents and CEOs from the energy industry, government and international institution officials, high-level policy makers, academics and regulators from over 60 countries.
Among others, the three-day programme of WFER IV features numerous break-out sessions across four key themes:

Industry players say renewable energy sources could account for 10 per cent of Singapore's energy mix in 2020. That's more than double the current contribution. This was outlined in a White Paper released two days ago by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore. And to hasten the adoption of renewables, they say Singapore should narrow its focus to sectors with the highest potential. These include biomass, biogas and most importantly - solar. But the Energy Market Authority says while it supports the use of solar energy, the pace of its adoption will depend on factors like the evolution of technology, installation costs and the amount of space available. In this week's Spotlight, Melissa Chong explores Singapore's energy future in 2020 and beyond.
SINGAPORE: Households in Singapore may soon be able to compare their utility bills against their neighbours'. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) said this was one way to encourage people to be more energy efficient. Currently, bills are compared against national average consumption. EMA will work with Singapore Power (SP) in the next six months to look at ways to present information so that users can gauge their expenses against others. For a start, they will test out the project with about 280,000 online SP accounts. They hope to eventually roll it out to all 1.2 million families in Singapore. EMA's CEO, Chee Hong Tat, said: "Research has been done, including overseas where they have tried this. It shows that when you compare yourself with your friends and your neighbours, actually, ...
SINGAPORE: Singapore is testing out several electric vehicle (EV) prototypes and technologies. The inter-agency Electric Vehicle Taskforce announced the launch of the electric vehicle test-bed on Saturday. The taskforce is led by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The aim of the test-bed is to test and gauge different EV prototypes and charging technologies, given Singapore's urbanised environment and road conditions, before deciding whether to roll it out for mass use. For a start, the test-bed will be at three outdoor and two indoor charging stations and involve five Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and four smart electric drive Daimler vehicles. Starting from just nine, the number of electric cars taking part in this test-bed is expected to grow to 95 before...
As The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) of Turkey, we express our pleasure to notify that the 6th World Forum on Energy Regulation to be organized on 25-28 May 2015 will be held in Istanbul. Istanbul, with its 8 thousand 5 hundred years heritage and uniqueness for bridging continents, is the right place to talk about energy and regulation. Istanbul links not only continents but also cultures, religions and moreover natural resources and markets. Turkey has made great strides in energy market liberalization during the past decade and is a key actor in the energy sector, providing a reliable energy corridor between East and West. As EMRA, we believe in the importance of World Forum on Energy Regulation and that Istanbul is to be a model for manifestation of collaboration between e...

Elliott's bio can be found here: https://www.energyandincomeadvisor.com/author/elliottgue/ During this 40+ minute discussion about the oil market, Jason starts by congratulating Elliott about his oil market call in December 2014 the last time he was on the show, when he said oil would to go $40/barrel and stay around those levels for at least 12 months. Elliott proved to be correct about his call on oil. Jason then talks about how resilient oil producers in the US, specifically US shale producers, have been able to stave off bankruptcy.
