In which John Green pauses, five years after the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, to consider what we know so far about the law's effectiveness and repercussions. I also look at health care in the United States more generally, and the limited scope of the Affordable Care Act relative to the size of the overall health care system in the U.S. I got a ton of help from Aaron Carroll, who hosts the great Health Care Triage https://www.youtube.com/user/thehealthcaretriage, but any errors are my fault and mine alone. The Affordable Care Act is a serious attempt to make health insurance available and affordable to every legal resident—an important goal. But it is extremely and unnecessarily complex and has done little to mitigate the burden of health expenditure growth—an important problem. Professor Enthoven shares how we can repair some of these deficiencies. Recorded on October 24, 2014, in collaboration with the Stanford Alumni Association as part of Stanford Reunion Homecoming and the Graduate School of Business Fall Reunion/Alumni Weekend. Speaker: Alain Enthoven, ’52, Marriner S. Eccles Professor of Public and Private Management, Emeritus

This Third Edition includes updates reflecting the U.s. Supreme Courts decision on key components of the Ppaca, but also details the many challenges confronting the health care system, reeling from a rising number of bankruptcies. Read your free e-book: http://downloadapp.us/mebk/50/en/B004GUSEOE/book When President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law in March of 2010 (the act), he and the Congress almost achieved a goal that has eluded most Presidents since Franklin Delano Roosevelt universal health insurance coverage for all Americans. While the Act did not achieve complete universal coverage (it excluded illegal aliens), it came close enough to be considered a significant achievement. No individual who is employed, or unemployed, poor or near poor, disabled or suffering from a pre-existing condition will be unable to obtain health insurance through the private insurance system or several public programs including Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare, the insurance system for the famil...
Read your free e-book: http://downloadapp.us/mebk/50/en/B004GXAVHE/book Debate continues as to whether the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the act) is a good law capable of either protecting patients or making Americans health care more affordable, but many agree that the current system is too expensive, and that our individual and collective health care expenditures do not guarantee, or even correlate with, the quality of our health care. In a society in which the phrase you get what you pay for is commonplace, the idea that we are paying ever-increasing amounts for a health care system that leaves far too many without the best possible quality of care is difficult to grasp or accept.
