Michael Kamen
Michael Arnold Kamen (April 15, 1948 – November 18, 2003) was an American composer (especially of film scores), orchestral arranger, orchestral conductor, song writer, and session musician.
Biography
Early life
Michael Arnold Kamen was born in New York City, the second of four sons. His father, Saul Kamen, was a dentist, and his mother, Helen, was a teacher.
While attending the The High School of Music & Art in New York City, Michael Kamen became friends with Martin Fulterman (later known as Mark Snow, who composed the theme music for The X-Files among other projects). While studying the oboe, he formed a rock-classical fusion band called New York Rock & Roll Ensemble, together with classmates Fulterman and Dorian Rudnytsky. The group performed in white tie (not tuxedos), as typically worn by classical musicians. In the middle of the concert, Fulterman and Kamen would play an oboe duet. The group backed up friend and classmate Janis Ian in a concert at Alice Tully Hall in late 1967.

Robin Hood
Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore who, according to legend, was a highly skilled archer and swordsman. Traditionally depicted as being dressed in Lincoln green, he is often portrayed as "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor" alongside his band of Merry Men. Robin Hood became a popular folk figure in the late-medieval period, and continues to be widely represented in literature, films and television.
Ballads and tales
The first clear reference to "rhymes of Robin Hood" is from c1377, the late-14th-century poem Piers Plowman, but the earliest surviving copies of the narrative ballads that tell his story date to the second half of 15th century (i.e. the 1400s), or the first decade of the 16th century (1500s). In these early accounts, Robin Hood's partisanship of the lower classes, his Marianism and associated special regard for women, his outstanding skill as an archer, his anti-clericalism, and his particular animosity towards the Sheriff of Nottingham are already clear.Little John, Much the Miller's Son and Will Scarlet (as Will "Scarlok" or "Scathelocke") all appear, although not yet Maid Marian or Friar Tuck. It is not certain what should be made of these latter two absences as it is known that Friar Tuck, for one, has been part of the legend since at least the later 15th century where he is mentioned in a Robin Hood play script.

Eric Clapton
Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE (born 30 March 1945), is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time. Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and fourth in Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time". He was also named number five in Time magazine's list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009.
In the mid-1960s, Clapton left the Yardbirds to play blues with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Immediately after leaving Mayall, Clapton formed the power trio Cream with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Jack Bruce, in which Clapton played sustained blues improvisations and "arty, blues-based psychedelic pop". Furthermore, he formed blues rock band Blind Faith with Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech. For most of the 1970s, Clapton's output bore the influence of the mellow style of JJ Cale and the reggae of Bob Marley. His version of Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" helped reggae reach a mass market. Two of his most popular recordings were "Layla", recorded with Derek and the Dominos; and Robert Johnson's "Crossroads", recorded with Cream. Following the death of his son Conor in 1991, Clapton's grief was expressed in the song "Tears in Heaven", which featured in his Unplugged album.

It's no exaggeration to call the music of MICHAEL KAMEN some of the most recognizable in the history of cinema. With a list of credits including THE DEAD ZONE, BRAZIL, HIGHLANDER, the LETHAL WEAPON and DIE HARD series, LICENCE TO KILL, THE KRAYS, ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES, THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN, THE LAST BOY SCOUT, DON JUAN DEMARCO, MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, EVENT HORIZON, THE IRON GIANT, X-MEN and OPEN RANGE he left a lasting (and still much imitated) influence on the sound, "vibe" and art of modern film composition. Many are unaware however that before film, Kamen was a much sought arranger / conductor for artists as varied as David Bowie, Aerosmith, Sting, Kate Bush, Jim Croce, Metallica, and most notably Pink Floyd on their classic concept lp THE WALL. He'd continue to dabble in both the pop and classical worlds - most notably with 1990's CONCERTO FOR SAXOPHONE AND ORCHESTRA, featuring LETHAL WEAPON soloists / collaborators David Sanborn and Eric Clapton. And he'd bring his distinctive musical voice to television in episodes of AMAZING STORIES, FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON, TALES FROM THE CRYPT and most notably HBO's now legendary 11 part 2001 mini-series BAND OF BROTHERS, one of his final and most acclaimed works before his untimely death (succumbing to a six year battle with multiple sclerosis) at the age of 55 in 2003.
Loosely based on the best selling book by historian Stephen E. Ambrose, BAND OF BROTHERS told the sprawling saga of "Easy" Company (part of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division) from jump training in the US, to the Allied landings at Normandy and through to the end of WWII. The second collaboration between Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg following SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (not including THE MONEY PIT and JOE VS. THE VOLCANO - both produced by Spielberg), episodes of BROTHERS (co-produced by the BBC) were lensed in widescreen cinematic fashion by a murderer's row of lauded directors including Phil Alden Robinson (FIELD OF DREAMS), Richard Loncraine (RICHARD III), Tony To (HOUSE), cinematographer Mikael Salomon (THE ABYSS), Hanks himself and others.
Scoring BROTHERS was close to composer Kamen's heart. "My father had a twin brother who was killed in Germany three days before the end of the war. I've always lived with this, knowing what his loss meant to my family. So when Tom and Tony (Tony To - co producer) asked me to write music for this miniseries, I wanted to do it from a personal point of view, to write beautiful music for the individual soldiers' stories, not music for the bombs and the battles and the bullets. I wrote this as a requiem for an uncle I never met". Long before the series was completed Kamen read Ambrose's book, then composed music for a three minute "teaser trailer" sent to him by Hanks - that "trailer" music eventually becoming the series Main Title Theme.
On Aug. 29, 2001 at the Hollywood Bowl, Kamen conducted the Young Musicians Foundation Orchestra in a live performance suite of music from BAND OF BROTHERS. In an interview he'd state, "It's so satisfying to work on a project of real significance for an entire generation of people who may not know anything about World War II, or anything about its soldiers except from other war movies. BAND OF BROTHERS is not a war movie. It's about human beings. It's about ordinary men doing extraordinary things, and that was uppermost in my mind when I wrote the music.".
The thematic transition half-way through "BAND OF BROTHERS: Suite #2" (approx. 5:35) is particularly goosebump and tear enducingly beautiful.
