T-Bone Walker - Funky Town (1969) Album
T-Bone Walker's legacy casts a giant shadow over modern blues. He exerted a major influence on many artists, including B.B. King, Pee Wee Crayton and Chuck Berry. T-Bone combined superlative guitar playing with a fine singing voice. Although the forties and fifties were his heyday, he never stopped touring. Bob Thiele, an experienced producer for abc/Impulse (jazz) and abc/Bluesway, recorded him in the late sixties (as he did with B.B. King, Earl Hooker, Charlie Brown, etc) producing two LPs "Stormy Monday Blues" (1967) and "Funky Town" (1969). On these recordings, he is perfectly backed by veteran virtuoso Lloyd Glenn -who originally accompanied Walker on his 1947 blues mega-hit Stormy Monday Blues- on keyboards and by three other excellent younger musical hotshots: Mel London (gtr), Ron Brown(bs) and Paul Humphrey (dms). As usual for T-Bone, a good horn section is featured as well. These are, actually, the last true jewels that T-Bone recorded before passing away in 1975. Here, he reprises some of his best known numbers but also proves able to modernize his blues, making it sound - indeed - funkier. He achieves this by using faster tempos and by giving a lot of room to his accompanists (particularly to Mel Brown's hard edged guitar sound). His voice, now huskier than before, perfectly complements the musical stew. This compilation provides an interesting contrast to his previous, smoother and more sophisticated sides. However, the latter qualities have not been thrown overboard. The jazzy tinge of his earlier work remains apparent but does not dominate as much as before. As could be expected, the sound quality on this Bob Thiele production is certainly way more dynamic than the one found on his early 78's from the forties and early fifties. An album to (re)discover without hesitation.

Funkytown
"Funkytown" is a song by American band Lipps Inc., which appears on their 1979 debut album, Mouth to Mouth. It was released as a single in March 1980. Written by Steven Greenberg and sung by Cynthia Johnson, the song expresses the singer's pining for a metaphorical place that will "keep me movin', keep me groovin' with some energy".
It was written while the band lived in Minneapolis with dreams of moving to New York. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 on March 29, 1980 and spent four weeks at No. 1, beginning May 31. It also hit No. 1 on the Dance chart in the spring of 1980.
The single held a unique record for reaching number one in 28 countries, more than any other single release until Madonna's "Hung Up" reached number one in 41 countries in 2005. It reached the top spot in the United States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands, and Australia, among many others. It also reached No. 2 in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and on the US R&B chart. The song was Lipps Inc's only US Top 40 hit.

T-Bone combined superlative guitar playing with a fine singing voice. Although the forties and fifties were his heyday, he never stopped touring. Bob Thiele, an experienced producer for abc/Impulse (jazz) and abc/Bluesway, recorded him in the late sixties (as he did with B.B. King, Earl Hooker, Charlie Brown, etc) producing two LPs "Stormy Monday Blues" (1967) and "Funky Town" (1969). On these recordings, he is perfectly backed by veteran virtuoso Lloyd Glenn -who originally accompanied Walker on his 1947 blues mega-hit Stormy Monday Blues- on keyboards and by three other excellent younger musical hotshots: Mel London (gtr), Ron Brown(bs) and Paul Humphrey (dms). As usual for T-Bone, a good horn section is featured as well. These are, actually, the last true jewels that T-Bone recorded before passing away in 1975. Here, he reprises some of his best known numbers but also proves able to modernize his blues, making it sound - indeed - funkier. He achieves this by using faster tempos and by giving a lot of room to his accompanists (particularly to Mel Brown's hard edged guitar sound). His voice, now huskier than before, perfectly complements the musical stew. This compilation provides an interesting contrast to his previous, smoother and more sophisticated sides. However, the latter qualities have not been thrown overboard. The jazzy tinge of his earlier work remains apparent but does not dominate as much as before. As could be expected, the sound quality on this Bob Thiele production is certainly way more dynamic than the one found on his early 78's from the forties and early fifties. An album to (re)discover without hesitation.

Robbie Rotten, who lives underground, and is determined to return Lazy Town to its former state of inactivity and quiet, constantly foils the characters' efforts.
Coming to the rescue is the athlete Sportacus who lives in a zeppelin-like aircraft and receives signals from the kids or the Mayor whenever they need help. Sportacus has two goals, to keep the peace and to promote healthful, positive living.
When Robbie Rotten is discovered and contained through comic pratfalls, he returns to his underground lair and all is well in Lazy Town, until another day and another time when Robbie will rise again.

Fortunately fo' Stephanie, LazyTown be also under tha watchful eye of Sportacus, a athletic, super-active, slightly-above-average hero, whoz ass runs, jumps, flips n' flies ta tha rescue up in his wild lil' AirShip. Sportacus always manages ta save tha dizzle n' ta help tha lil playaz of LazyTown foil Robbie's sickest lazy schemes.
Da other lil playaz of LazyTown is inquisitive, adventurous, playful, n' like Stephanie, just tryin ta figure up they own ghettos. Each of dem has strengths n' weaknesses dat all lil playas can identify with.
