The University of Pittsburgh (commonly referred to as Pitt) is a state-related research university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1787 after the American Revolutionary War, it was founded on the edge of the American frontier as the Pittsburgh Academy. It developed and was renamed as Western University of Pennsylvania by a change to its charter in 1819. After surviving two devastating fires and various relocations within the area, the school moved to its current location in the Oakland neighborhood of the city; it was renamed as the University of Pittsburgh in 1908. For most of its history, Pitt was a private institution, until 1966 when it became part of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education.
The university is composed of 17 undergraduate and graduate schools and colleges located at its urban Pittsburgh campus, home to the university's central administration and 28,766 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The university also includes four undergraduate schools located at campuses within Western Pennsylvania: Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, and Titusville. The 132-acre Pittsburgh campus has multiple contributing historic buildings of the Schenley Farms Historic District, most notably its 42-story Gothic revival centerpiece, the Cathedral of Learning. The campus is situated adjacent to the flagship medical facilities of its closely affiliated University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), as well as the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Schenley Park, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Pittsburgh (/ˈpɪtsbərɡ/ PITS-burg) is the second largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with a population of 305,842 and the county seat of Allegheny County. The Combined Statistical Area (CSA) population of 2,659,937 is the largest in both the Ohio Valley and Appalachia and the 20th-largest in the U.S. Pittsburgh is known as both "the Steel City" for its more than 300 steel-related businesses, as well as "the City of Bridges" for its 446 bridges. The city features 30 skyscrapers, 2 inclines, a pre-revolutionary fortification and the source of the Ohio River at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers. This vital link of the Atlantic coast and Midwest through the mineral-rich Alleghenies made the area coveted by the French and British Empires, Virginia, Whiskey Rebels, Civil War raiders and media networks.
Aside from steel, Pittsburgh has led in aluminum, glass, shipbuilding, petroleum, foods, sports, transportation, computing, autos, and electronics. For much of the 20th century, Pittsburgh was behind only New York and Chicago in corporate headquarters employment, second to New York in bank assets and with the most U.S. stockholders per capita. America's 1980s deindustrialization laid off area blue-collar workers and thousands of downtown white-collar workers when the longtime Pittsburgh-based world headquarters of Gulf Oil, Sunbeam, Rockwell and Westinghouse moved. This heritage left the area with renowned museums, medical centers, parks, research centers, libraries, a diverse cultural district and the most bars per capita in the U.S. In 2015, Pittsburgh was named on a list of the "eleven most livable cities in the world."

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-Things-You-Must-Do-at-the-University-of-Pittsburgh/ - Every college has its own unique landscape, traditions, and cool stuff nearby – here are some things you shouldn’t miss if you’re studying at Pitt.Pittsburgh is an old mining town and the remnants still remain. Mount Washington offers a breathtaking view of the entire Pittsburgh skyline and the best way up is not by car, but by the Duquesne Incline. This is a century-old cable car, which was voted one of the top ten sites in the world for viewing a cityscape. And lucky for everyone, this ride is available year round whenever a dose of adrenaline and a new perspective is needed. It is one of those things you do with your new big group of friends and every time your parents visit.
Discover what University of Pittsburgh students think of the local area in this video developed by the School of Education.
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/Campus-Food-Quality-at-the-University-of-Pittsburgh/ - There are a lot of commendable things about the University of Pittsburgh. Close to 19,000 undergraduates on its urban based campus reap the benefits of attending a school that was the sixth largest recipient of federally-sponsored research funding in 2013. What we’re really saying is that the academic programs aren’t too shabby. Then there’s the Division 1 sports teams mascot Roc the Panther is probably the most excited about those. And don’t miss our story about their commendable campus safety record.

I decided to spend the night in Pittsburgh on my way out east and I was quite pleasantly surprised by the amazing architecture as well as the city's overall beauty.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of being one of 25 dancers at my school who was brought to Pittsburgh for the National High School Dance Festival. I learned so much on this trip and truly felt so in awe at all of the talent and knowledge I encountered. This is the first of a few vlogs from my trip that will be going up (I vlogged all but the day we traveled home!) so make sure you subscribe so you will know when those go up! As always, thank you so much for watching... -Cassie MY LAST VIDEO: https://youtu.be/1sAn85_-sq4 2016 PLAYLIST: http://bit.ly/1N3QJvC
Thousands of tourists come from around the country and the world to see the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. What is there to see and do? I sit down with James Hill, a graduate of Point Park University for Broadcast Reporting, winner of three Point Park University Broadcasting Awards, intern at Pittsburgh’s City Council, and tour guide for the Just Ducky Tours. My questions for him are as follows: 1. What peaked your interest to become a tour guide? 2. How far do people come to tour Pittsburgh, and did you ever meet a tourist from another country? 3. What are some of the most common questions you are asked while giving a tour; and how many tourists do you get per day? 4. What are your top 3, must see sights in Pittsburgh. 5. What is your favorite restaurant? Photo Credits: Just Ducky Tou...

I made this Pittsburgh travel video after I spent a few hours exploring the Steel City. I only had a few hours to explore and walk around but I definitely want to head back and check out some more of what the City of Bridges has to offer. Apart from the lovely Point State Park and the modern business district I was able to enjoy some delicious Mexican food and there were so many quirky little cafes that I couldn't even decide which one to choose! Being from Ontario, Pennsylvania was quite surprising to me in regards to how nice it was and it's easy to see why Pittsburgh tourism is on the rise. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, super helpful and I could definitely see that the people of Pittsburgh were very proud of the city they lived in! Some of the specific destinations in this vi...

Went out to University of Pittsburgh on my Dangerous Faggot Tour. Had a little talk, got protested, dealt with it brilliantly and I think maybe changed a few hearts... or at least triggered them. Funniest part- the tiny signs printed on dorm ink jet printers were too small for me to see. I had to have them read aloud because I couldn't fucking read them. Bacteriophage, viruses that specifically infect bacteria, are, by far, the majority of all biological entities in the biosphere. The viral population, including bacteriophage, is very diverse yet relatively few viral genomes have been sequenced. In this series of lectures, Hatfull argues that viral genomes provide a great source of new genes, potentially with new functions and structures. In Part 1, Hatfull describes what bacteriophage are, some of their biological properties and how they were discovered. In Part 2, he discusses the organization of bacteriophage genomes and explains how genomic sequence comparison can provide information about viral evolution. And in part 3, Hatfull describes work from his lab on mycobacteriophages, phage that infect mycobacteria including M. tuberculosis...
