We took part in the 39th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run on 2 April 2016. Ever since I first saw this bridge, I've wanted to run over it so I was thrilled that race took place. Going up the bridge was a challenge, but the descend and the flatness of the course afterwards made for a more relaxing run. There were also over a dozen bands playing throughout the course with a multitude of onlookers cheering us on. According to the race officials, the Cooper River Bridge Run was the 3rd most popular 10k and the 8th overall race last year. This year, over 40,000 people were registered for this event. Skylar Laine from the 11th season of American Idol performed the national anthem for the Bridge Run and kicked off what was, not according to meteorologists, a non-rainy race. The race festival afterwards was very good as well. Between the fresh fruit and bagels provided by Bi-Lo, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and hot smoked brats from Johnsonville Sausage, there was plenty to eat for breakfast after running over six miles. Refreshments were readily available as well. The 40th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run is scheduled to take place on 1 April, 2017.
