A travel guide for visiting Shibuya in Tokyo Japan, guest hosted by Felix from TVShinjuku. Shibuya is a must-visit neighborhood in Tokyo -- Shibuya has the world's busiest pedestrian intersection, and is a famous destination for "youth culture" for the 20-something age group. Shibuya is also home to a number of "love hotels" in Shibuya's "Love Hotel Hill" aka Dogenzaka.

So now you are in Tokyo and you don't want to spend the day going from a place to another in a dark subway, right?
So here there is my recommendation, an awesome tour of 5 of the best places in Tokyo, all at a walking distance!
Obviously there are more than 5 things to do in Tokyo and each person has their own favorite places to visit. That being said, if you are a first timer in Japan, I recommend you spend half a day to do this tour. SERIOUSLY. Do this and you'll save a lot of time. Unless you want to see Sumo or the fish market, but if you are around my age, you will love this tour. You see the beautiful Japanese Meiji Shrine, see the crazy young Takeshitadori, the cool&hip; Harajuku Cat Street, get lost in Shibuya crossing, walk through the insane Center Street in Shibuya, and check out a really cool shop in Shibuya called LOFT for some shopping. Not to mention one of the best beers/ales in Tokyo and tons of shops on the way.

This is Shibuya district of Tokyo, where the main streets are seas of humanity and video screens constantly lighting the landscape. Shibuya is very popular among the young people of Japan. This is where new fashion trends are born. Close by is Center Gai. Feels like the heart of Shibuya, with clothing, music, video game shops packed together. This statue is just outside the Tokyo Department store and the Shibuya station, and has an exit named after it. Shibuya 109, or Shibuya Ichi-Maru-kyū, is one of the most famous buildings for buying trendy clothes. Other than trendy and eccentric shopping, the area is teeming with restaurants and nightlife.
This strip is also known as love hotel hill, for all hotels that offer short term stays for couples. As you come in, there is no reception desk, so you choose among those rooms available, press the button, wait for a receipt, and go to the room. Pay as you leave. After a long night out you can you can come relax to this hot springs spa, open 24/7, but only for women. In Shibuya you can also enjoy cultural time. SHIBUYA:
Just one stop over from Harajuka on the Yamanote line is Shibuya station, one of Tokyo’s busiest railways stations and gateway to the famous “Shibuya scramble” - when the lights changes, hundreds of people cross this intersection at the same time and you’re swept up in the sea of humanity. The best way of seeing the crossing is from above, and you could spend all day testing out the many surrounding viewpoints
YOYOGI PARK:
And just so you know, we zig zagged across the street like 20 times for fun before getting lost in the city and eventually ending up in the nearby Yoyogi park. The park is one of Tokyo’s largest, and it’s a prime spot to hang out and people watch, especially during the cherry blossom season. We were there in March so we were a little early but luckily we still got a preview. We ending up spending the rest of the day walking around getting a taste of life in #Japan and it’s cast of characters that come out to play on a beautiful and chilly Sunday afternoon. It was absolutely perfect.
Robot restaurant:
Ah yes, the robot restaurant.. Tokyo’s over the top, seizure inducing totally ridiculous, sensory overloaded cabaret show with robots. Go they said, you’ll have a great time they said… but what they failed mention is that the place is located smack dab in the middle of Shinjuku’s red light district, which is a good place to be if you’re a single 20 something out for a night on the town, but not so much if you’re in your married, draped in camera gear and trying to film a #travel documentary. Once we shook that weirdness, we made our way over to the restaurant lobby to pick up our tickets… ordering tickets online is a good way to save a little money if you do decide to come here… oh and you might want to bring earplugs, also don't have epilepsy.

After 14 years of being together, I did what I do best when I want to get my way and have Noah to try new things..I.. slowly… wear… him… down…

Shibuya
Shibuya (渋谷区, Shibuya-ku) is a special ward in Tokyo, Japan.
As of 2008, it has an estimated population of 208,371 and a population density of 13,540 people per km². The total area is 15.11 km².
The name "Shibuya" is also used to refer to the shopping district which surrounds Shibuya Station, one of Tokyo's busiest railway stations. This area is known as one of the fashion centers of Japan, particularly for young people, and as a major nightlife area.
History
Shibuya was historically the site of a castle in which the Shibuya family resided from the 11th century through the Edo period. Following the opening of the Yamanote Line in 1885, Shibuya began to emerge as a railway terminal for southwestern Tokyo and eventually as a major commercial and entertainment center.
The village of Shibuya was incorporated in 1889 by the merger of the villages of Kami-Shibuya, Naka-Shibuya and Shimo-Shibuya within Minami-Toshima County (Toyotama County from 1896). The village covered the territory of modern-day Shibuya Station area as well as the Hiroo, Daikanyama, Aoyama and Ebisu areas. Shibuya became a town in 1909. The town of Shibuya merged with the neighboring towns of Sendagaya (which included the modern Sendagaya, Harajuku and Jingumae areas) and Yoyohata (which included the modern Yoyogi and Hatagaya areas) to form Shibuya Ward of Tokyo City in 1932. Tokyo City became Tokyo Metropolis in 1943, and the present-day special ward was established on March 15, 1947.

The best way of seeing the crossing is from above, and you could spend all day testing out the many surrounding viewpoints YOYOGI PARK: And just so you know, we zig zagged across the street like 20 times for fun before getting lost in the city and eventually ending up in the nearby Yoyogi park. The park is one of Tokyo’s largest, and it’s a prime spot to hang out and people watch, especially during the cherry blossom season. We were there in March so we were a little early but luckily we still got a preview. We ending up spending the rest of the day walking around getting a taste of life in #Japan and it’s cast of characters that come out to play on a beautiful and chilly Sunday afternoon. It was absolutely perfect. Robot restaurant: Ah yes, the robot restaurant.. Tokyo’s over the top, seizure inducing totally ridiculous, sensory overloaded cabaret show with robots. Go they said, you’ll have a great time they said… but what they failed mention is that the place is located smack dab in the middle of Shinjuku’s red light district, which is a good place to be if you’re a single 20 something out for a night on the town, but not so much if you’re in your married, draped in camera gear and trying to film a #travel documentary. Once we shook that weirdness, we made our way over to the restaurant lobby to pick up our tickets… ordering tickets online is a good way to save a little money if you do decide to come here… oh and you might want to bring earplugs, also don't have epilepsy. So now you are in Tokyo and you don't want to spend the day going from a place to another in a dark subway, right?

Unless you want to see Sumo or the fish market, but if you are around my age, you will love this tour. You see the beautiful Japanese Meiji Shrine, see the crazy young Takeshitadori, the cool&hip; Harajuku Cat Street, get lost in Shibuya crossing, walk through the insane Center Street in Shibuya, and check out a really cool shop in Shibuya called LOFT for some shopping. Not to mention one of the best beers/ales in Tokyo and tons of shops on the way.

So now you are in Tokyo and you don't want to spend the day going from a place to another in a dark subway, right?
So here there is my recommendation, an awesome tour of 5 of the best places in Tokyo, all at a walking distance!
Obviously there are more than 5 things to do in Tokyo and each person has their own favorite places to visit. That being said, if you are a first timer in Japan, I recommend you spend half a day to do this tour. SERIOUSLY. Do this and you'll save a lot of time. Unless you want to see Sumo or the fish market, but if you are around my age, you will love this tour. You see the beautiful Japanese Meiji Shrine, see the crazy young Takeshitadori, the cool&hip; Harajuku Cat Street, get lost in Shibuya crossing, walk through the insane Center Street in Shibuya, and check out a really cool shop in Shibuya called LOFT for some shopping. Not to mention one of the best beers/ales in Tokyo and tons of shops on the way.

This statue is just outside the Tokyo Department store and the Shibuya station, and has an exit named after it. Shibuya 109, or Shibuya Ichi-Maru-kyū, is one of the most famous buildings for buying trendy clothes. Other than trendy and eccentric shopping, the area is teeming with restaurants and nightlife.
This strip is also known as love hotel hill, for all hotels that offer short term stays for couples. As you come in, there is no reception desk, so you choose among those rooms available, press the button, wait for a receipt, and go to the room. Pay as you leave. After a long night out you can you can come relax to this hot springs spa, open 24/7, but only for women. In Shibuya you can also enjoy cultural time. Just one stop over from Harajuka on the Yamanote line is Shibuya station, one of Tokyo’s busiest railways stations and gateway to the famous “Shibuya scramble” - when the lights changes, hundreds of people cross this intersection at the same time and you’re swept up in the sea of humanity. The best way of seeing the crossing is from above, and you could spend all day testing out the many surrounding viewpoints
YOYOGI PARK:
And just so you know, we zig zagged across the street like 20 times for fun before getting lost in the city and eventually ending up in the nearby Yoyogi park. The park is one of Tokyo’s largest, and it’s a prime spot to hang out and people watch, especially during the cherry blossom season. We were there in March so we were a little early but luckily we still got a preview. We ending up spending the rest of the day walking around getting a taste of life in #Japan and it’s cast of characters that come out to play on a beautiful and chilly Sunday afternoon. It was absolutely perfect.
Robot restaurant:
Ah yes, the robot restaurant.. Tokyo’s over the top, seizure inducing totally ridiculous, sensory overloaded cabaret show with robots. Go they said, you’ll have a great time they said… but what they failed mention is that the place is located smack dab in the middle of Shinjuku’s red light district, which is a good place to be if you’re a single 20 something out for a night on the town, but not so much if you’re in your married, draped in camera gear and trying to film a #travel documentary. Once we shook that weirdness, we made our way over to the restaurant lobby to pick up our tickets… ordering tickets online is a good way to save a little money if you do decide to come here… oh and you might want to bring earplugs, also don't have epilepsy.
KARAOKE:
After 14 years of being together, I did what I do best when I want to get my way and have Noah to try new things..I.. slowly… wear… him… down…
