Stephen James Taylor
Stephen James Taylor is a Los Angeles-based composer best known for his film and TV scores with 4 Emmy nominations ('93 and '97), 2 Annie nominations ('99 and '00) and a DVD-X Award on "Best Original Score (for a DVD Premiere Movie) to date ('05). His style is a blend of pop, classical, jazz, world music and experimental surround sound genres.
Unusual notes
One of the ways he achieves his sound is by working with a larger palette of notes than those allowed on conventional instruments. He introduced microtonality to the vocabulary of film music with his ground breaking score to THE GIVING (1992, Eames Demetrios) composed solely using a scale with 58 tones per octave, unequal. Other Taylor scores incorporating microtonal cues include: Why Do Fools Fall in Love (film) (Warner Brothers Pictures) 1998, Gregory Nava, Timon & Pumbaa (TV series)(1995-8),Mickey Mouse Works (1998–2000), THE FINAL INSULT (1997 Charles Burnett), POWERS OF TIME (1996 Eames Demetrios), A QUESTION OF FAITH (2000 Tim Disney), The Glass Shield (1995 Charles Burnett) Black Panther (TV series) (2010 Reginald Hudlin, Marvel), THE EAMES ALUMINUM CHAIR, and A GATHERING OF ELEPHANTS (Eames Demetrios 2007, 2008).

James Taylor
James Vernon Taylor (born March 12, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Taylor was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
Taylor achieved his breakthrough in 1970 with the No. 3 single "Fire and Rain" and had his first No. 1 hit the following year with "You've Got a Friend", a recording of Carole King's classic song. His 1976 Greatest Hits album was certified Diamond and has sold 12 million US copies. Following his 1977 album, JT, he has retained a large audience over the decades. Every album he released from 1977 to 2006 sold over a million copies. His chart performance had a resurgence during the late 1990s and 2000s, when he recorded some of his most-awarded work (including Hourglass, October Road and Covers). He achieved his first number one album in the US in 2015 with his recording Before This World.

Recorded between December 8 - December 17, 1969 at Sunset Sound, released two months later, this in my opinion is James' best album. 8 and 17 December 1969 at a cost of only $7,600 out of a budget of $20,000 (see "Suite For 20 G").Taylor was "essentially homeless" at the time the album was recorded, either staying in Asher's home or crashing on a couch at the house of guitarist Danny Kortchmar or anyone else who would have him. This is an album I listen to whenever I'm down or upset, and it just never gets old. Recorded between December 8 - December 17, 1969 at Sunset Sound, released two months later, this in my opinion is James' best album. 8 and 17 December 1969 at a cost of only $7,600 out of a budget of $20,000 (see "Suite For 20 G").Taylor was "essentially homeless" at the time the album was recorded, either staying in Asher's home or crashing on a couch at the house of guitarist Danny Kortchmar or anyone else who would have him.
This is an album I listen to whenever I'm down or upset, and it just never gets old. It's basically a folk album, but it has other themes like country (the title track), gospel ("Lo and Behold"), and blues ("Steamroller" and "Oh Baby"). My favorite tracks have to be "Fire and Rain" (my all time favorite song), "Blossom", "Sweet Baby James" (was written as a lullaby for his nephew), "Country Road" (although I like the single version best), "Anywhere Like Heaven" and "Suite For 20 G" (basically three unfinished songs in one so he could finish a deadline and be paid $20,000, the last one being my favorite part). Sorry if I bored you, but I just really like this album.
And by the way, I'm only 15 (and black, if that matters) and this is my favorite album (along with Nick Drake's "Fruit Tree")...

Whilst he is claiming it is just about the music, the film shows Neil as a man of great integrity both musically and politically. Fascinating stuff.
Neil Young grants rare and unprecedented access to the BBC for a documentary in which he traces his musical journey in his own words.
The film was made from three hours of interview shot in New York and California, and uses previously unseen performance footage from the star's own extensive archives. It also features cohorts Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Nils Lofgren and James Taylor.
From his early transcontinental American quest for recognition, through the first flush of success with Buffalo Springfield, to the bi-polar opposites of mega-stardom with Crosby, Stills and Nash and the soulful rock of Crazy Horse, Young's career has enjoyed many guises.
Perhaps his most famous period was as a 1970s solo artist making albums that became benchmarks. After The Goldrush, recorded in his Topanga Canyon home, and Harvest, part-recorded on his northern Californian ranch, saw Young explore the confessional side of song-writing. But never one to rest on his laurels, he would continually change direction.
In the mid-seventies, two of Young's closest friends died as a result of heroin abuse. What followed was music's answer to cinema verite, with Tonight's The Night a spine-chilling wake for his dead friends.
As New Wave arrived, Young was keen to explore new ideas. A collaboration with Devo on what became his art-house epic, Human Highway, saw the genesis of Rust Never Sleeps, a requiem for the seventies.
In the eighties, Young explored different genres, from electronica to country, and in recent times he has returned to Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash, but only when it has suited him.
The film ends with Young still refusing to be denied, on tour in the USA with CSNY, playing anti-Bush songs to a Republican audience in the South.

Still singing just as powerfully as over 40 years ago, Steven Tyler has created a looong, glorious tenure fronting the legendary rock 'n' roll group Aerosmith since its formative years. Globally renowned for his primal scream and over 4 octaves of vocal range, Steven's durable vocal cords have held up over decades of unrelenting beating. His two biggest apparent singing influences, James Brown and Paul McCartney, can clearly be heard in his singing, yet Steven's an outright original.
Steven has a bright tenor which has - over the years - developed an abiding rasp (due to his demanding singing style) and adjusted to the screaming. Starting with a crystal clear tone and a tendency to use a throaty blues placement, the 'classic voice of Tyler' we all know started coming to its place in the mid 80's where Steven changed his belting technique to a healthier alternative. To this day, his voice remains almost exactly the same as it was 20 years ago, which really is a miraculous achievement, and his live singing has only kept on improving furger over time. A legend, to put it shortly.

Still singing just as powerfully as over 40 years ago, Steven Tyler has created a looong, glorious tenure fronting the legendary rock 'n' roll group Aerosmith since its formative years. Globally renowned for his primal scream and over 4 octaves of vocal range, Steven's durable vocal cords have held up over decades of unrelenting beating. His two biggest apparent singing influences, James Brown and Paul McCartney, can clearly be heard in his singing, yet Steven's an outright original.
Steven has a bright tenor which has - over the years - developed an abiding rasp (due to his demanding singing style) and adjusted to the screaming. Starting with a crystal clear tone and a tendency to use a throaty blues placement, the 'classic voice of Tyler' we all know started coming to its place in the mid 80's where Steven changed his belting technique to a healthier alternative. To this day, his voice remains almost exactly the same as it was 20 years ago, which really is a miraculous achievement, and his live singing has only kept on improving furger over time. A legend, to put it shortly.
