Plot: Spies, cops, holy fools and well-armed children cross paths on a day of danger, mystery and possible transformation. Plot: Near India and Pakistan's border-town of Fatehpur, lives Ranjit Singh Choudhary who has been labeled as a rebel by his schoolmaster and his dad, Makhan's employer, Bade Thakur, as he could not stand the injustice that was meted to farmers like his dad, and his ancestors who had become economic slaves to the upper-caste Thakurs, who loaned them some money, mortgaged their land, made them toil in the fields, took away their crops, molested their women, and when they passed away, forced their children to take on the debt. Ranjit decides to leave for good, but does return on the very day of his dad's passing. He is asked to assume the loan left unpaid by his dad, when he refuses to do so, he is treated as a bandit, leading him to confront the corrupt Police Force. When Bade Thakur's daughter, Sumitra, who was Ranjit's childhood sweetheart, marries DSP Sultan Singh, a buffalo is slaughtered and left to rot in the community well, poisoning the water, resulting in several deaths, including that of the local schoolmaster. Bandit Surajbhan Singh robs the wedding party, earns the wrath of Sultan, is hunted down, and brutally killed, resulting in Sultan's promotion as SP. Now the stage is all set for Sultan to capture Ranjit, which he does, but Ranjit manages to escape, joins forces with Havaldar-turned-renegade, Gopi Dada, and an army officer, Jabhar, to confront the Thakurs, and attempt to rid the records that bind the farmers to loans that were taken centuries ago. Sultan has undertaken to stop Ranjit, Gopi, and Jabhar, at all and any costs - and with the might of the law and the Thakurs behind him - it does look like Ranjit and his men may not have any chance at survival - leaving the evil to flourish on forever.

Plot: Sharda lives a wealthy lifestyle along with her widower dad, Thakur Ranvir Singh, in Bombay, India. She incurs her dad's displeasure when she gets elopes and gets married to Jaichand Prakash, who is poor. She gets pregnant and Jaichand passes away, leaving her to give birth to Kanhaiyaa. When he gets to be 9 years of age, an ailing Sharda too passes away, compelling Kanhaiyaa to live in the Bal Kalyan Anarthalay, run by a cruel Manager, Makhanlal, and his equally cruel wife, Radha. When Kanhaiyaa is abused, beaten, and starved, he escapes, ends up in Bombay, straight into the clutches of Madhav Singh and Rahim, who house several male orphans and train them to be petty thieves. Kanhaiyaa does not want to steal but is compelled to join the gang. One day he gets beaten-up, but ends up being looked after by none other then his estranged grandfather, who comes to know of his identity, and is thrilled to have him back. But Kanhaiyaa's problems are far from over for he is abducted by Madhav's gang, and taken back to their hideout. When Madhav finds out that there is a reward of ten thousand Rupees being offered by Ranvir, he decides to return Kanhaiyaa. A much relieved Kanhaiyaa looks forward to being re-united with his grandfather little knowing that Ranvir's nephew, Pratap, has other plans for him.

Plot: The film begins with the finishing of a water canal for the village set in the present. Radha (Nargis), as the mother of the village, is asked to open the canal and remembers back to her past when she was newly married, mirroring the new independence of India. The wedding between Radha and Shamu (Raaj Kumar) was paid for by Radha's mother-in-law, who got a loan from the moneylender Sukhilala. This event starts the spiral of poverty and hardship that Radha endures. The conditions of the loan are disputed, but the village elders decide in favor of the moneylender, after which Shamu and Radha are forced to pay three-quarters of their crop as interest on the loan of 500 rupees. While trying to use more of their land to alleviate their poverty, Shamu's arms are crushed by a boulder. He is shamed by his helplessness and is humiliated by others in the village. Deciding that he is no use to his family, he leaves and does not return. Soon after this, Radha's mother-in-law dies. Radha continues to work in the fields with her children and gives birth again. Sukhilala offers to help alleviate her poverty in return for Radha marrying him, but she refuses to sell herself. A storm sweeps through the village that destroys the harvest and kills Radha's youngest child, and the villagers start to migrate but decide to stay and rebuild because of Radha's urging. The film then skips forward several years to when Radha's two surviving children, Birju (Sunil Dutt) and Ramu (Rajendra Kumar), are young men. Birju, embittered by the exactions of Sukhilala since he was a child, takes out his frustrations by pestering the village girls, especially Sukhilala's daughter. Ramu, by contrast, has a calmer temper and is married soon after. He becomes a father ,but his wife is soon absorbed into the cycle of poverty. Birju's anger finally becomes dangerous and, after being provoked, attacks Sukhilala and his daughter and violently lashes out at his family. He is chased out of the village and becomes a bandit. On the day of the wedding of Sukhilala's daughter, Birju returns to exact vengeance. He kills Sukhilala and takes his daughter--but Radha, who had promised that Birju would not do harm, shoots Birju, who dies in her arms. The film ends with her opening the canal and reddish water flowing into the fields.

Plot: Young Shamu lives with his widowed mom, and works in the orchard of Daulatram Rai. He is very friendly with Mala, Daulatram's only child, and they often go horse-riding. While riding one day, Mala and Shamu get thrown down, and Mala is injured. Her enraged & snobbish dad fires Shamu and forbids Mala to ever see him again. He and his mom leave to re-locate elsewhere. On the way, his mom passes away, leaving a grieving Shamu in the care of young Champa and her uncle. A depressed Shamu runs away, straight into a sand-storm, and loses his vision. Blind and dependent, Shamu is looked after by Champa and her uncle. Years later, the uncle has passed away, but Shamu still lives with Champa and makes a living by singing. Champa adores him, but Shamu is unable to get Mala out of his mind. Dr. Kishore hears him sing, is pleased, and offers to restore his vision free of cost. When Shamu regains his sight, his only thought is to find Mala and re-kindle their love. Will fate bring his sweetheart to him, or will he continue his quest for the rest of his life?
