Thank you and see you in Paris in 2019!
Dear colleagues,
The 4th World Journalism Education Congress is officially over and we would like to thank you for your participation. The 4th WJEC's wide range of inspiring and thought provoking papers, panel discussions and syndicate dialogues will be remembered, as too we hope will be the reconnecting with friends and colleagues, meeting new people, informal meets, chats and experiences of Auckland.
The first report about the congress comes from the Whova application. During the congress there were at least 897 agenda views on Whova, 1179 profile views, 1177 messages exchanged and 236 card exchanges. Impressive summary of activities just in that small domain of smart app.
As for the rest, we have prepared a small survey about the congress, its organisation and quality of sessions. It will take 10 minutes to fill in the survey and it will help us in evaluating the event and preparing the final report for the World Journalism Education Council, as well as helping our colleagues preparing the 5th WJEC in Paris in 2019. You can access the survey by either clicking the following link or copying and pasting it into your browser https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WJEC16. The survey will be open until September 1st. Please note the survey does not run on Internet Explorer, so we kindly ask you to use either Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Thank you!
We hope you've returned safely home from Auckland. If you're still enjoying an extended stay on our shores - we wish you a wonderful holiday.
Many kind regards,
The WJEC Steering Committee

WJEC16 Closes with positive take on future of journalism
By Laura Tupou The fourth World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC) closed on Saturday with a message to journalist educators to continue to uphold the need for press freedom.
“It is a basic human right that should never be taken for granted,” said Professor Nico Drok, president of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA). Held at AUT, the WJEC saw more than 200 delegates from around the world presenting and sharing their knowledge and experience in teaching young journalists. Kalafi Moala, vice-chair of the Pasifika Media Association (PasiMA) and CEO of Taimi Media Network in Tonga, also spoke at the closing plenary about not underestimating the importance of the Pacific.
