Sulfuric acid (alternative spelling sulphuric acid) is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid with the molecular formula H2SO4 and molecular weight 98.079 g/mol. It is a pungent-ethereal, colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid which is soluble in water at all concentrations. Sometimes, it is dyed dark brown during production to alert people to its hazards. The historical name of this acid is oil of vitriol.
Sulfuric acid is a diprotic acid and shows different properties depending upon its concentration. Its corrosiveness on other materials, like metals, living tissues or even stones, can be mainly ascribed to its strong acidic nature and, if concentrated, strong dehydrating and oxidizing properties. Sulfuric acid at a high concentration can cause very serious damage upon contact, since not only does it cause chemical burns via hydrolysis, but also secondary thermal burns through dehydration. It can lead to permanent blindness if splashed onto eyes and irreversible damage if swallowed. Accordingly, safety precautions should be strictly observed when handling it. Moreover, it is hygroscopic, readily absorbing water vapour from the air.
Concentrated sulfuric acid takes on a chunk of meat. Will it survive? Doubt it.... Sit back and watch this powerful flesh-eating acid munch its way through a pork chop. The results we doubt will surprise you, but still very fascinating to watch :) We left some of the meat out of the acid so you could compare the differences. Ever wonder what happens if you accidentally spill sulfuric acid on your shoes? Believe it or not spilling acid on your shoe is something that could actually happen. Maybe not the amount we poured on top of this shoe, but still, it can happen. The acid dissolved the threading which held the shoe together in a matter of minutes. We had a pair of pliers, a knife and a couple of screw drivers handy for the video. We did not have to tear the shoe apart at all. Simply touching the shoe with any of our tools made the shoe begin to fall apart. This entire process took a little over 25 minutes, we edited the video down to 2 minutes so you could see the entire process quicker. This is one science experiment that should only be attempted with adult supervision and proper safety equipment! Thanks to...
Ever wonder what happens if you soak a McDonald's Big Mac in sulfuric acid? Look no further. Today we poured sulfuric acid on the McDonald's Big Mac cheeseburger and the results were surprising. We originally through the big mac would dissolve into a giant pile of mush. Turns out the sulfuric acid actually cooked the outside of the big mac bun until it was rock hard. Almost as if we left it in the oven to long. Of course when we got to the center of the big mac it began to melt away on contact. We time lapsed this video over a 30 minute period so you could view the entire process quicker. Melting a sock with sulfuric acid! This video demonstrates how sulfuric acid reacts with your clothing. We took a sock and placed it on a plate of sulfuric acid. Within a matter of three minutes the sock was melted down to an awesome glob of goo. Sulfuric acid is not something you want to spill on your clothes. This video demonstrates the importance of wearing proper safety equipment. To save our viewers some time we cut the video down to less then a minute in order to show the full reaction. This can make for a fun science experiment as long as proper adult supervision and safety equipment are used. What do you want to see us melt next? I showed this acid in a previous video, and today I tried cleaning it up. The acid was warmed and 30% hydrogen peroxide was added drop-wise with a glass rod used for stirring. With peroxide added, the acid slowly clears. Because the peroxide is 70% water, the acid is now diluted and must be concentrated. It gets heated to 625 degrees Fahrenheit to drive off the water. The concentrated acid is then tested on some sugar in a beaker. This batch went a dark red during the heating because I did not use enough peroxide when I cleared it. So, I also show a batch from yesterday that came out a yellow color. CAUTION : Hot acid is extremely dangerous. The fumes generated must be ventilated or do this outside if no ventilation system is available.

https://www.iitutor.com The common industrial uses of sulfuric acid include: • Manufacture of fertilisers. Most of the sulfuric acid produced is used to make superphosphate fertiliser. Rock phosphate contains Ca3(PO4)2 which is insoluble and so of no use to plants. Reaction with sulfuric acid forms a mixture of calcium dihydrogen phosphate, which is soluble, along with calcium sulfate; this mixture is sold as superphosphate. Sulfate of ammonia, another common fertiliser, is made from ammonia and sulfuric acid. • Manufacture of ethanol from ethylene • Lead-acid batteries for motor cars. The electrolyte in car batteries is approximately 4 mol L-1 sulfuric acid. • Manufacture of vixcose rayon and other synthetic fibres. Rayon or viscose is reconstituted cellulose: Degraded or short-fivre cell...

I start off making sulfuric acid for batteries. But first, I have to cut through my smeltering area to lay petroleum gas pipes. I also upgrade all the gray factories to blue. I also setup a chemical plant and pumpjack factory. I wrap up with batteries being built. I play video games with my kids. Thank you for watching!
