The Sagrada Família (full name Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família) is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926).
Although not finished, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In November 2010 it was consecrated (dedicated to a special purpose) and made a minor basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.
Building of the Sagrada Família began in 1882. Gaudí started working on it in 1883. He took over the project, and changed it with his ideas on architecture and engineering.
Gaudí worked on it until he died. At the time of his death in 1926, less than a quarter of the building was finished.The Sagrada Família's building was slow. It needed private donations (people giving money to it). It was stopped by the Spanish Civil War—only to start again in the 1950s. Building was more than halfway done after 2010. Some of the project's biggest problems still remain. There is an expected finish date of 2026–100 years after Gaudí's death.

During April 2012, Luis Caldevilla ( luiscaldevilla.com ) and Alberto Castaño ( albertocvr@gmail.com ) were invited by the Director of the Construction Board to film in the basilica using time-lapse and drone aerial techniques .
Luis Caldevilla used a motiontimer motiontimer.com / that is a control system for three-axis motion timelapse and Alberto Castaño use small drones and other devices to show this unique perspective

El Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia , conocido simplemente como la Sagrada Familia, es una basílica católica de Barcelona (España) diseñada por el arquitecto Antoni Gaudí. Iniciada en 1882, todavía está en construcción permaneciendo abierta al publico . Es la obra maestra de Gaudí, y el máximo exponente de la arquitectura modernista catalana. Según datos de 2011, es el monumento más visitado de España, con 3,2 millones de visitantes.
Durante el pasado mes de Abril de 2012, Luis Caldevilla luiscaldevilla.com y Alberto Castaño vimeo.com/albertocvr fuimos invitados por el Director del Patronato de la Junta Constructora, para captar mediante las técnicas del timelapse e imagen aérea, nuestra visión de la basilíca.
Luis Caldevilla , utilizó un motiontimer motiontimer.com/es, un sistema de control de movimiento en tres ejes para timelapse y Alberto Castaño se ayudo de drones y otros aparatos para conseguir esta prespectiva diferencial de la Basilica .

La Sagrada Familia es un templo excepcional, tanto en lo que al origen y fundación se refiere, como a los propósitos. Es una iglesia concebida en el siglo XIX que parte de los esquemas tradicionales de las catedrales medievales, que Gaudí modificó introduciendo nuevas soluciones constructivas basadas en la geometría reglada y de doble giro; y que posteriormente enriqueció con elementos escultóricos que aluden explícitamente al misterio cristiano.
Actualmente el Templo continúa en construcción y todavía hoy, bajo la supervisión del director y coordinador de obras Jordi Faulí, se trabaja de acuerdo con las directrices de su creador. Sin embargo, ahora también se incorporan las nuevas tecnologías de la construcción. Se estima que pueda culminarse en 2026, coincidiendo con el centenario de la muerte del arquitecto.
Con los años, la Sagrada Familia se ha convertido en una de las señas de identidad más universales de la ciudad de Barcelona.

Sagrada Família
The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (Catalan pronunciation: [səˈɣɾaðə fəˈmiɫiə]; English: Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family) is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed it a minor basilica, as distinct from a cathedral, which must be the seat of a bishop.
Construction of Sagrada Família had commenced in 1882 and Gaudí became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted his last years to the project, and at the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete.
Sagrada Família's construction progressed slowly, as it relied on private donations and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, only to resume intermittent progress in the 1950s. Construction passed the midpoint in 2010 with some of the project's greatest challenges remaining and an anticipated completion date of 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.

The Sagrada Família (full name Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família) is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926).
Although not finished, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In November 2010 it was consecrated (dedicated to a special purpose) and made a minor basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.
Building of the Sagrada Família began in 1882. Gaudí started working on it in 1883. He took over the project, and changed it with his ideas on architecture and engineering.
Gaudí worked on it until he died. At the time of his death in 1926, less than a quarter of the building was finished.The Sagrada Família's building was slow. It needed private donations (people giving money to it). It was stopped by the Spanish Civil War—only to start again in the 1950s. Building was more than halfway done after 2010. La Sagrada Familia es un templo excepcional, tanto en lo que al origen y fundación se refiere, como a los propósitos. Es una iglesia concebida en el siglo XIX que parte de los esquemas tradicionales de las catedrales medievales, que Gaudí modificó introduciendo nuevas soluciones constructivas basadas en la geometría reglada y de doble giro; y que posteriormente enriqueció con elementos escultóricos que aluden explícitamente al misterio cristiano.
Actualmente el Templo continúa en construcción y todavía hoy, bajo la supervisión del director y coordinador de obras Jordi Faulí, se trabaja de acuerdo con las directrices de su creador. Sin embargo, ahora también se incorporan las nuevas tecnologías de la construcción. Se estima que pueda culminarse en 2026, coincidiendo con el centenario de la muerte del arquitecto.
Con los años, la Sagrada Familia se ha convertido en una de las señas de identidad más universales de la ciudad de Barcelona.

In 1883, Antonio Gaudi accepted the commission to continue the construction of the ‘Church Of The Poor’, La Sagrada Familia. Located to the north of Barcelona, this unusual building brought about a return to the teachings of Catholicism and Gaudi devoted the last 40 years of his life to the building that remains, even to this day, unfinished.Completed by Gaudi, the eastern facade is often referred to as the most ingenious sculpture of the century and all four of its facades have been designed to depict the life of the Son of God. The building surprises everyone with its originality yet the main interior is still an enormous building site. The ceiling of the main church is composed of individual sections. The decorative elements contained in the many towers unite to take on the shape of flowers and fruit with subtle screw-shaped columns supporting the ceiling that creates an image of woodland. It is only when comparison is made between Antonio Gaudi’s original plans and sketches and present day progress that it becomes apparent how each design element is today being painstakingly realised. Rather than false beautification, and in order to achieve realism, each of the statues and figures derives from photographs and plaster models posed for ordinary people from the streets of Barcelona. The basilica wasn’t even consecrated until 2010, over a century after construction began in 1882.
This ambitious project is still unfinished, and yet it is already one of Barcelona’s most remarkable pieces of architecture.
The original plans include a total of 18 spires, the completion of which will make the Sagrada Familia the tallest church building in the world.
As it is, there’s already a lot to take in, so set aside plenty of time. You might even want to bring binoculars to get a good look at the details.
See the Nativity facade on the eastern side of the building. It’s divided into three porticos, meant to represent the virtues of hope, faith, and charity, illustrated with statues depicting elements of life and nature. It’s also the oldest of the facades, and is the best representation of Gaudi’s original vision.
The Passion facade on the western side features porticos representing the same virtues as the Nativity facade, but here the depiction is stark and austere, invoking the suffering of the Passion.
Inside, see the light cast by the stained-glass windows, and the hand-carved columns made to resemble trees rising to support the high ceiling.
The Sagrada Família is a stunning combination of Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture, and its beauty and uniqueness makes it one of Barcelona’s most famous landmarks.

This catalog focuses on that dynamic and ongoing process, and on the successive builders’ incorporation of new technologies into the structure´s magnificent design, a living work of performance in itself. It documents the cathedral’s evolution using handmade drawings, plaster models, digital imaging, and 3D modeling. It examines the geometries and formal languages that have informed generations of architects and builders. At the same time, it shows the integration of traditional craftsmanship with the most cutting edge computer graphics and robotic engineering. Originally situated on the outskirts of the city, La Sagrada Família today serves as the enduring symbol of Barcelona. But unlike the Eiffel Tower or Brooklyn Bridge, Barcelona’s icon is still a work in progress and a magnetic center of spiritual life.

Die Sagrada Família (vollständige katalanische Bezeichnung: Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família; deutsch Sühnekirche der Heiligen Familie) ist eine römisch-katholische Basilika in Barcelona. Der Bau der von Antoni Gaudí im neukatalanischen Stil entworfenen Kirche ist bis heute unvollendet. Sie wurde 1882 begonnen und soll nach jüngsten Prognosen 2026 abgeschlossen sein. Es un templo inacabado, en continua evolución, que no tiene vocación de "obra terminada". La Sagrada Familia, consacrée en 2010 par le pape Benoit XVI, est une véritable aventure architecturale, technique et humaine... Un monument à la fois fascinant et déroutant, d’autant plus surprenant que presque tous les dessins et plans originaux de Gaudi ont disparu en 1936, lors de la guerre civile. Les bâtisseurs d’aujourd’hui tentent malgré tout de rester fidèles au projet initial, dont il reste quelques vestiges. Voyage au cœur d’un chantier exceptionnel…
Jordi Fauli est architecte en chef. Une lourde responsabilité ! Il nous emmène au cœur du chantier, à l’endroit même où se dressera la tour du Christ, la plus haute tour de la basilique, qui dominera toute la ville. Avec lui, nous découvrons aussi l’architecture de la basilique. Gaudi a créé de nouvelles formes et structures pour supporter l’édifice. Résultat : la Sagrada Familia est non seulement immense mais également inondée de lumière !
Feliu Martin, responsable de l’atelier des tailleurs de pierre, éprouve une réelle fierté à travailler à la Sagrada Familia, car la technique de la taille de pierre est unique ici. Feliu nous fait admirer la géométrie surprenante des lieux : les clochers de forme parabolique, les fenêtres en hyperbole… Autant de formes complexes conçues par Gaudi, en recherche constante de beauté, d’élévation et d’harmonie nouvelles.
Enfin, Etsuro Sotoo, artiste d’origine japonaise, nous surprendra lui aussi. Il est chargé de l’atelier sculpture. Depuis 36 ans, il voue sa vie, et son art, à la Sagrada Familia. Fasciné par l’œuvre de Gaudi, il tente de rester en harmonie avec son œuvre. Nous le suivons dans les hauteurs de la basilique, pour découvrir les sculptures recouvertes de mosaïques vernissées et colorées. Une technique très appréciée de Gaudi.
Loli Toribio habite en face de la Sagrada Familia depuis plus de 80 ans. Elle nous fait découvrir, avec fierté et émotion, la vue exceptionnelle de ce chantier plus que centenaire qui la fascine depuis son enfance.

Dieser grenzt im Süden an die Carrer de Mallorca, im Norden an die Carrer de Provença, im Westen an die Carrer de Sardenya und im Osten an die Carrer de Marina.
Gaudí testete die Statik für die Sagrada Familia zunächst bei seinem Entwurf für die wesentlich kleinere Kirche der Colònia Güell. Hier wandte Gaudí eine zum damaligen Zeitpunkt fast vergessene Technik an: Er fertigte das Tragwerk aus Schnüren und hängte das gesamte Bauwerk kopfüber auf. Weil die Schnüre biegeschlaff sind, wirkt in ihnen kein Biegemoment. Das Modell unterscheidet sich vom Original nur durch den Richtungssinn der Belastung und eignet sich deshalb, eine Form zu finden, die nur auf Druck und nicht auf Biegung beansprucht wird (siehe auch Katenoide und Stützlinie). So hat er es durch gezielte Längenanpassungen vermocht, sehr schnell und effektiv ein ausgewogenes Bauwerk zu konstruieren. Diese Methode war in der Gotik bei der Konstruktion großer Bauwerke üblich.
Durch die Experimente bei der Colònia Güell mit genügend Sicherheit ausgerüstet, griff Gaudí jedoch für die Ermittlung der Statik der Sagrada Familia auf grafische Methoden zurück.
Je nach Verwendung und Aufgabe der Elemente sind die verwendeten Steine verschieden hart, es gibt eher weiche Steine für Verzierungen und sehr harte Gesteine für tragende Elemente.
Orgel

Derzeit liegt noch keine endgültige Konzeption für eine Orgelanlage vor, die den enormen Dimensionen der Basilika gerecht wird und den Innenraum mit Klang füllen kann.
Im Chorraum (Presbiterio) befindet sich aber bereits eine Chororgel, die von der Orgelbaufirma Blancafort Orgueners des Montserrat im Jahr 2010 errichtet wurde. Dieses Instrument hat 26 Register (1492 Pfeifen) auf zwei Manualen und Pedal und ist in zwei getrennten Orgelgehäusen untergebracht. Die Prospektgestaltung der zirka 8 Meter hohen und 3 Meter breiten Orgel lehnt sich an die Form- und Strukturgebung Gaudis an, der selbst keine Hinweise auf die Gestaltung einer Orgel hinterlassen hat. Der Spieltisch ist frei beweglich, die Spiel- und Registertrakturen sind elektrisch.

Es un templo inacabado, en continua evolución, que no tiene vocación de "obra terminada". Así es como el escultor jefe de la Sagrada Familia -Etsuro Sotoo- define la ópera prima de Gaudí; y nunca podremos profundizar en este espiritual concepto, si antes no indagamos en la filosofía de la transgresión espiritual que Sotoo supo identificar en un arquitecto -Gaudí- cuyo motor era la fé, aunque el pragmatismo haya frivolizado su maestría, relegándolo a mero icono del Modernismo.
"¡Gaudí no era modernista, era gaudiano!" insiste, con énfansis, Etsuro Sotoo. Su adoración por el "maestro" es tal, que incluso ha doblegado su propio "ego" de artista, en pro de ensalzar su esencia. Y, sin embargo, asegura que Gaudí dejó su propia obra terminada. Nada más y nada menos, que la labor de "construirse a sí mismo".
Sotoo, autor del magistral conjunto "La Orquesta Celestial" de La Puerta del Nacimiento, no tiene otra pretensión que la que dirigió al propio Gaudí. "No hay prisa", asegura, argumentando que uno de los grandes males de la humanidad es, precisamente, la prisa. Su objetivo, definitivamente, no es el de ser el arquitecto que termine el Templo de la Sagrada Familia.
