The capital of Catalonia is one of Europe’s cosyest and livable cities. It is famous for its nice weather, good transport, lot of green areas, and parks full of fountains and statues. Nice and friendly people, a buzzing cultural life, colourful events and the famous Catalonian cousine is waiting for the visitors. We are seduced by the huge dock, the sport centres and well maintained monuments of 2 thousand years. The busy Rambla, circled by palaces, the gothic quarter, which remained in the past, the houses of Gaudi, the Sagrada Familia cathedral and the Columbus Monument are just a few from among the countless spectacles of the city.
The Costa Brava, the ‘wild coast’ is the coast of Catalonia, which, with its yearly 50 million visitors, is one of Europe’s largest holiday paradises. The mild, Mediterranean climate, the crystal clear water, the mysterious, rocky bays, the long, sandy beaches, the southern flora, the wonders of the Spanish and Catalonian cuisine, the historical monuments and artistic values invite more and more visitors each year. Such artists were living and creating here as Salvador Dali, Anton Gaudi, Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Joan Miro. Cadeques is a city of arts, an untouched fishing village, which also has one of Europe’s largest artistic collections. Figueras is mostly known for its Dali museum. They say that once they kept the Holy Grail in the fort above the picturesque San Pere de Rodes monastery. Basalu, which is famous of its stone bridge, is a travel to the Middle Ages. Empuriabrava, with its canals and lagoons is the Venice of Costa Brava. Girona’s old, labyrinth-like city core is one of the most beautiful ones in Spain. Lloret de Mar is inviting the visitor with the promise of the Mediterranean night, being the center of Europe’s beach discos. Tossa de Mar is the most beautiful place of the whole coast, where the bastions of the old fort stand guard over the magnificent beach. Barcelona is one of the most lively harbor cities on the Mediterranean and after Madrid, Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia. Intimate squares, small palaces and tangled alleys provide a good insight into its history as Iberians, Greeks and Romans once had trading posts there.
La Rambla is a wide and shady boulevard that travels through the old town to the harbor and is where life goes on both night and day. It's also where street artists perform, shoeblacks work diligently and portrait painters tout for trade among the passing tourists.
The Museu Marítim is situated in the royal dockyards of Drassanes, that were built when the city was at its zenith. Its buildings are unique examples of Gothic architecture and the vast dimensions of the dockyard allowed 30 ships to be built simultaneously in the name of the Catalonian-Aragon crown.
Few parks are as famous as the Park Güell. With this, Antoni Gaudi created a new design concept in this fabulous garden city. At its entrance, Gaudi placed a colorful lizard as a symbol of the water that is collected in subterranean cisterns and is used for the distribution of water in the park. The city itself is also featured in Gaudi's magnificent fantasies. The Palau Güell was treated to an ostentatious roof with a great array of air shafts and chimneys. But the sight that captures the imagination of most who see it is the amazing façade of the Casa Mila, a unique apartment block without equal. Not a single wall is straight, glass and plaster were used for its façade and colourful ornamental ceramics complete the work.
Barcelona is a melting pot that ranges from Gothic to Modernism, a veritable explosion of joie de vivre and creativity.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. The second largest island of the Mediterranean managed to keep some of its natural, untouched beauty, which is more and more rare in modern Europe. Large herds of goat and sheep are grazing on the scarcely inhabited Campidoro plain. Here thearchaic patoral culture still lives on. In the Giara di Gesturi National Park a stud of 1500 horses lives completely free. There are almost 8 thousand ‘nurages’, ancient megalithic stone buildings built around 2000 BC. The black diorite, polished by the sea and the wind and the grey granite rocks stand out ouf the blue sea. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. If we add to this the beautiful stalactite caves, the monuments of Cagliari, the wild coast of Costa Smeralda, and the magnificent beaches, we can say that Sardinia is the nature lovers’ paradise and a place for an idillic vacation.

Barcelona

We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here. It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts. Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter. Well, so what did you think of the city? It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose. And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. Empuriabrava, with its canals and lagoons is the Venice of Costa Brava. Girona’s old, labyrinth-like city core is one of the most beautiful ones in Spain. Lloret de Mar is inviting the visitor with the promise of the Mediterranean night, being the center of Europe’s beach discos. Tossa de Mar is the most beautiful place of the whole coast, where the bastions of the old fort stand guard over the magnificent beach. Not even 100 kilometers from Costa Brava there is the Catalonian capital, the city of Gaudi, the ‘stage for the zest of life’, one of Europe’s most beautiful and livable cities, Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the most lively harbor cities on the Mediterranean and after Madrid, Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia. Intimate squares, small palaces and tangled alleys provide a good insight into its history as Iberians, Greeks and Romans once had trading posts there.
La Rambla is a wide and shady boulevard that travels through the old town to the harbor and is where life goes on both night and day. It's also where street artists perform, shoeblacks work diligently and portrait painters tout for trade among the passing tourists.
The Museu Marítim is situated in the royal dockyards of Drassanes, that were built when the city was at its zenith. Its buildings are unique examples of Gothic architecture and the vast dimensions of the dockyard allowed 30 ships to be built simultaneously in the name of the Catalonian-Aragon crown.
Few parks are as famous as the Park Güell. With this, Antoni Gaudi created a new design concept in this fabulous garden city. At its entrance, Gaudi placed a colorful lizard as a symbol of the water that is collected in subterranean cisterns and is used for the distribution of water in the park. The city itself is also featured in Gaudi's magnificent fantasies. The Palau Güell was treated to an ostentatious roof with a great array of air shafts and chimneys. But the sight that captures the imagination of most who see it is the amazing façade of the Casa Mila, a unique apartment block without equal. Not a single wall is straight, glass and plaster were used for its façade and colourful ornamental ceramics complete the work.
Barcelona is a melting pot that ranges from Gothic to Modernism, a veritable explosion of joie de vivre and creativity.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. The second largest island of the Mediterranean managed to keep some of its natural, untouched beauty, which is more and more rare in modern Europe. Large herds of goat and sheep are grazing on the scarcely inhabited Campidoro plain. Here thearchaic patoral culture still lives on. In the Giara di Gesturi National Park a stud of 1500 horses lives completely free. There are almost 8 thousand ‘nurages’, ancient megalithic stone buildings built around 2000 BC. The black diorite, polished by the sea and the wind and the grey granite rocks stand out ouf the blue sea. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. If we add to this the beautiful stalactite caves, the monuments of Cagliari, the wild coast of Costa Smeralda, and the magnificent beaches, we can say that Sardinia is the nature lovers’ paradise and a place for an idillic vacation.

The second largest island of the Mediterranean managed to keep some of its natural, untouched beauty, which is more and more rare in modern Europe. Large herds of goat and sheep are grazing on the scarcely inhabited Campidoro plain. Here thearchaic patoral culture still lives on. In the Giara di Gesturi National Park a stud of 1500 horses lives completely free. There are almost 8 thousand ‘nurages’, ancient megalithic stone buildings built around 2000 BC. The black diorite, polished by the sea and the wind and the grey granite rocks stand out ouf the blue sea. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. If we add to this the beautiful stalactite caves, the monuments of Cagliari, the wild coast of Costa Smeralda, and the magnificent beaches, we can say that Sardinia is the nature lovers’ paradise and a place for an idillic vacation.

The Barri Gòtic (Catalan for "Gothic Quarter") is the center of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Catalan modernista architecture (related to the movement known as Art Nouveau in the rest of Europe), developed between 1885 and 1950 and left an important legacy in Barcelona. Several of these buildings are World Heritage Sites. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026.
Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details." The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture,the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.

Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997.
Works by Antoni Gaudí, including Park Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and crypt), Casa Batlló, Crypt in Colonia Güell. The first three works were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The other four were added as extensions to the site in 2005.

The Barri Gòtic (Catalan for "Gothic Quarter") is the center of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Catalan modernista architecture (related to the movement known as Art Nouveau in the rest of Europe), developed between 1885 and 1950 and left an important legacy in Barcelona. Several of these buildings are World Heritage Sites. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026.
Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details." The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture,the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.

Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997.
Works by Antoni Gaudí, including Park Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and crypt), Casa Batlló, Crypt in Colonia Güell. The first three works were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The other four were added as extensions to the site in 2005.

In the Jardin Exotique the visitors may see tropical plants, cactuses and pine trees. The guards parade in front of the palace in snow-white uniforms. The buildings of the old city reflect a Renessaince charm and a zest for life. The sea is dark blue in the arms of the large rocks, while in the docks of La Condamine white luxury yachts are floating on the water.
