James J. "Jim" Cramer (born February 10, 1955) is an American television personality, former hedge fund manager, and best-selling author. Cramer is the host of CNBC's Mad Money and a co-founder of TheStreet, Inc.
Cramer was born to Jewish parents in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. His mother, Louise A. Cramer, was an artist and his father, N. Ken Cramer, owned International Packaging Products in Philadelphia, which sold wrapping paper, boxes and bags to retailers and restaurants. One of his first jobs was selling ice cream at Veterans Stadium during Philadelphia Phillies games. Cramer went to Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County. He lives in Summit, New Jersey.
Cramer began his involvement with journalism in college, working for The Harvard Crimson, and rising to become its president. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a B.A. in government. After graduation, Cramer worked in several entry-level reporting jobs. Dating back to March 1, 1978, Cramer worked for the Tallahassee Democrat in Tallahassee, Florida, where he covered the Ted Bundy murders. The then-executive editor, Richard Oppel, has said "[Cramer] was like a driving ram. He was great at getting the story." He subsequently worked as a journalist for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner. During this time, his apartment was robbed on multiple occasions, eventually costing him all of his possessions and forcing him to live out of his car for several months. He also worked for Governor Jerry Brown.
Jon Stewart (born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz; November 28, 1962) is an American comedian, writer, producer, director, actor, media critic, and former television host. From 1999 to 2015, he was the host of The Daily Show, a satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central.
Stewart started as a stand-up comedian, but branched into television as host of Short Attention Span Theater for Comedy Central. He went on to host his own show on MTV, called The Jon Stewart Show, and then hosted another show on MTV called You Wrote It, You Watch It. He has also had several film roles as an actor, but has done few cinematic projects since becoming the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central in early 1999. He is also a writer and co-executive producer of the show. After Stewart joined, The Daily Show steadily gained popularity and critical acclaim, and his work won 22 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Stewart has gained acclaim as an acerbic, satirical critic of personality-driven media shows, in particular those of the U.S. media networks such as CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. Critics say Stewart benefits from a double standard: he critiques other news shows from the safe, removed position of his "fake news" desk. Stewart agrees, saying that neither his show nor his channel purports to be anything other than satire and comedy. In spite of its self-professed entertainment mandate, The Daily Show has been nominated for news and journalism awards. Stewart hosted the 78th and 80th Academy Awards. He is the co-author of America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, which was one of the best-selling books in the U.S. in 2004, and Earth (The Book): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race, released in 2010.

Today marks the ninth anniversary of Jim Cramer's rant on CNBC during the early days of the financial crisis, before Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns failed, when he loudly pleaded with the Federal Reserve to take action. During the outburst, Cramer screamed that 'the Fed is asleep.' In retrospect, Cramer says while he was correct in his assessment, the rant was poorly received by the Fed, the media and his colleagues. Additionally, Cramer said he embarrassed his family. What happened to stock pundit Jim Cramer? What I enjoy most about him and his show, Mad Money, is his passion, his insights and his incredible self-confidence. He's a former hedge fund manager. He can be bombastic, even annoying. Sometimes he's right. Sometimes he's wrong. But I, for one, have never cast him as an investigative journalist. The guy lives and breathes the markets. Most ads for his TV show have a picture of him screaming. He's an entertainer who talks about his own bets with enthusiasm and, most often, with knowledge. So why did Cramer feel a need to suddenly assume the role of somber spokesman for CNBC on a comedy show Thursday night? It didn't make sense. The "weeklong match of the century" (a.k.a. Brawl Street) finally took place. After days of watching himself and his ...

General Electric's ( ) quarter was challenging, and Jim Cramer says he's disappointed by the results. GE is a holding in the Action Alerts PLUS portfolio that Cramer manages. Cramer says GE is "a wait until next year situation." Cramer says Honeywell ( ) is a better story right now. Honeywell's quarterly earnings and revenue beat Wall Street estimates, while General Electric lowered its full-year revenue growth target. GE's revenue was lighter than expected in the quarter due to weakness in its oil and gas business. Visa reports quarterly earnings Monday after the bell and investors should use any weakness to buy more shares, said TheStreet's Jim Cramer. Shares of Visa fell earlier this week on news that the financial services company CEO Charlie Scharf is retiring Dec. 1. He will be succeeded by Alfred Kelly, a Visa board member. Scharf said he would resign because he could "no longer spend the time in San Francisco necessary to do the job effectively." Kelly will join the company as CEO designate by the end of this month. Microsoft shares are pushing higher after its impressive earnings report, but it is okay to chase them as they rise, said TheStreet's Jim Cramer. Microsoft reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $22.33 billion, up 3% from a year earlier, and per-share profit of 76 cents, topping analysts' estimates for revenue of $21.71 billion and earnings of 68 cents. Sales growth would've been stronger if not for a 72% revenue drop for a phone business that's now largely an afterthought. On its earnings call, Microsoft guided for its three reporting segments to collectively post fiscal second-quarter revenue of $24.65 billion to $25.45 billion, below a $25.84 billion consensus. But the company has often guided conservatively before. The guidance doesn't account for the $26.2 billion LinkedIn acquisiti...
AT&T;( ) reportedly has held talks to buy Time Warner ( ), but Jim Cramer says he's not sure the deal will get anywhere. Bloomberg reported the two companies held informal discussions, and Cramer notes this comes as content companies and distribution companies are combining forces. Cramer says he's a big fan of Time Warner, but would wait until the stock falls to buy it. Cramer adds that as long as Jeff Bewkes remains CEO of Time Warner, it will remain one of his "absolute favorite" stocks. Amid British American Tobacco's $47 billion bid for a large stake of Reynolds American , TheStreet's Action Alerts PLUS Portfolio said investors shouldn't underestimate the cash flow in the tobacco space. "We don't know if the price is final - my colleague David Faber was saying it could even be higher," Cramer said. Tesla's new self-driving technology is a winner, but Elon Musk's SolarCity shenanigans are offputting, said TheStreet's Jim Cramer. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that it would build its Model S, X and future Model 3 sedan vehicles with "the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver." This is level 5 driverless technology, which means it won't have a steering wheel or controls, taking away any option to take over the car. This new program is opposed to the partly self-driving program currently available in Tesla cars. Because autonomous vehicles are expected to cut back on car crash related deaths, Musk called out journalists for instilling fear in people about this new technology. Subscribe to TheStree...
Find out where your candidate stands on the issues and then vote for your portfolio, said TheStreet's Jim Cramer. Cramer said pharmaceutical, fossil fuels and bank stocks could be priced lower should Hillary Clinton win the presidency, bringing the Congress along with her. Cramer said investors that do not look underneath the rancor between the two candidates to delve into how the issues will affect their pocketbooks are making a serious mistake.
