Peter Duesler Aurness (March 18, 1926 – March 14, 2010), known professionally as Peter Graves, was an American film and television actor. He was best known for his role as Jim Phelps in the CBS television series Mission: Impossible from 1967 to 1973 (original) and from 1988 to 1990 (revival). His elder brother was actor James Arness (1923–2011). Graves was also known for his portrayal of airplane pilot Captain Clarence Oveur in the 1980 comedy film Airplane! and its 1982 sequel Airplane II: The Sequel.
Peter Graves was born Peter Duesler Aurness on March 18, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Rolf Cirkler Aurness (1894–1982), a businessman, and his wife Ruth (née Duesler, died 1986), a journalist. Graves' ancestry was Norwegian, German, and English. The family name originally was "Aursnes," but when Rolf's Norwegian father, Peter Aursnes, immigrated to New York City in 1887, he changed the spelling. Peter used the stage name "Graves", a maternal family name, to honor his mother's family, and also so as to not be confused with his older brother, James Arness, the star of the television series Gunsmoke.
Peter often is used to refer to Saint Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ. It can also refer to many other people, of which only a few are listed here. This page only lists people commonly referred to as "Peter" and nothing else; for others, please see List of people named Peter.
Graves (/ˈɡrɑːv/; from French: 'gravelly land') is an important subregion of the Bordeaux wine region. Graves is situated on the left bank of the Garonne river, in the upstream part of the region, southeast of the city Bordeaux and stretch over 50 kilometres (31 mi). Graves is the only Bordeaux subregion which is famed for all three of Bordeaux' three main wine types—reds, dry whites and sweet wines—although red wines dominate the total production. Graves AOC is also the name of one Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) which covers most, but not all of the Graves subregion.
The area encompasses villages including Sauternes, Pessac, Talence, Léognan, Martillac, Saint-Morillon, and Portets.
The name Graves derives from its intensely gravelly soil. The soil is the result of glaciers from the Ice Age, which also left white quartz deposits that can still be found in the soil of some of the top winemaking estates.
The Graves is considered the birthplace of claret. Graves wine production for export dates back to Eleanor of Aquitaine, who married Henry II, King of England, creating a flourishing trade between both countries: wine versus coal and iron. In the Middle Ages, the wines that were first exported to England were produced in this area. At that time, the Médoc subregion north of the city Bordeaux still consisted of marshland unsuitable for viticulture, while Graves were naturally better-drained.
James Seay (9 September 1914 in Pasadena, California – 10 October 1992 in Capistrano Beach, California) was an American character actor who often played minor supporting roles as government officials.
Although it was a minor part not credited on-screen, his role in the film Miracle on 34th Street is one of his most visible because the film is a staple of Christmas repeats on television.
Among his many credits, Seay appeared in minor roles in a couple of episodes of Adventures of Superman television series: The Mind Machine (as a senator) and Jungle Devil (as an airplane pilot).
In the syndicated 1954-1955 television series Stories of the Century, starring and narrated by Jim Davis, Seay portrayed the Wyoming storekeeper James "Jim" Averill, companion of Cattle Kate Watson, both of whom were hanged in a dispute with cattlemen at the start of the Johnson County Range War.
Seay appeared sixteen times as Judge Spicer on ABC's western series, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, starring Hugh O'Brian. He was cast six times as a sheriff on the NBC children's western series, Fury, starring Peter Graves and Bobby Diamond. He also guest starred in Kenneth Tobey's syndicated aviation adventure series, Whirlybirds, and on the westerns The Californians, The Tall Man, and The Rebel.
Francis M. Gerstle (September 27, 1915 – February 23, 1970) was an American actor, well known for his performances in a series of science-fiction films.
He was born in New York City and died in Santa Monica. He appeared in 60 films between 1950 and 1970, 110 television series and programs between 1951 and 1970. His notable appearances included Outside the Wall. In television, he appeared in The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show in the episode Surprise Birthday Party, he portrayed Dick Gird in 6 episodes of the The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. His final appearance was in the episode San Francisco International in San Francisco International Airport which aired on September 29, 1970.

Director W. Lee Wilder follows up his monumental success with "Phantom From Space" with this little ditty. (Okay, "Phantom From Space" was nowhere near successful, but it sounded good.) Scientist Peter Graves dies in a plane crash, only to be revived by aliens from another world (and distant relatives of the great Marty Feldman) to do their bidding and assist in taking over Planet Earth. The film "Killers From Space" and related promotional materials are public domain. Plot: Dr. Douglas Martin is a scientist working on atomic bomb tests. While collecting aerial data on an Air Force atomic blast at Soledad Flats, his plane crashes. FILM DESCRIPTION: This spoof of the Airport series of disaster movies relies on ridiculous sight gags, groan-inducing dialogue, and deadpan acting -- a comedy style that would be imitated for the next 20 years. Airplane! pulls out all the clichés as alcoholic pilot Ted Striker (Robert Hays), who's developed a fear of flying due to wartime trauma, boards a jumbo jet in an attempt to woo back his stewardess girlfriend (Julie Hagerty). Food poisoning decimates the passengers and crew, leaving it up to Striker to land the plane, with the help...

Pete Graves was a fairly unknown Radio DJ on Century Radio when he was interviewed by Sky Sports News. He called for the unlikely return of Kevin Keegan to Newcastle United! A couple of weeks later the unlikely prediction came true and Keegan returned to Tyneside! Pete obviously made an impression on Sky TV because shortly after this interview... they gave him a job as a presenter!
