Den Harrow

Den Harrow is an Italo disco project fronted by Stefano Zandri (born 4 June 1962), an Italian fashion model. The name Den Harrow was conceived by the project's producers Turatti and Chieregato, who based it on the Italian word denaro (money). Stefano Zandri, however, uses the name Den Harrow as his stage name.

Career

Den Harrow was a popular project in the 1980s and reached the top ten in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden with hits like "Future Brain", "Mad Desire", "Bad Boy", "Don't Break My Heart", "Day by Day", and "Catch the Fox", all from the first two albums Overpower and Day by Day. The name "Den Harrow" was invented by the producers of the project, which according to them is based on the Italian word denaro (money).

Revealing the truth

After years of fame and popularity, it was revealed by frontman Stefano Zandri and his producers that Zandri did not actually sing the Den Harrow songs; he was essentially a character who lip-synched to vocals recorded by a number of other singers. Furthermore, since they did not consider Zandri's name and origin to be "trendy" enough, the producers R. Turatti and M. Chieregato concealed Zandri's Italian origin, marketing him as having been born Manuel Stefano Carry in Boston, Massachusetts. This was done so Polydor Records could market him more easily in the English-speaking world, where Italian-produced music was, at the time, viewed with skepticism.

Hannah Montana Hits Remixed

Hannah Montana Hits Remixed is the second remix album by American pop recording artist Miley Cyrus, in the role of her fictional alter ego Hannah Montana. It was the fifth Hannah Montana album released on August 19, 2008, exclusively at American Wal-Mart stores. The album features singles from both of the previous television soundtracks, Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana 2. Several writers and producers worked on the songs, mainly Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. The album peaked at number one hundred-three in Billboard 200 and at four in Top Kid Audio. All songs were remixed by music producers Marco Marinangeli and Simone Sello.

Background

The album features singles that were released on both of the previous television soundtracks, Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana 2. Most of Hits Remixed, who have formerly collaborated for other Disney acts like High School Musical. The American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi co-wrote and co-produced "We Got the Party" along with Greg Wells, Brian Green, Matthew Wilder and more. Other personnel include: Jamie Houston, Aris Archontis, Jeannie Lurie, Chen Neeman, Jay Landers and Holly Mathis. The songs are not heavily mixed, and contain influences of pop rock and teen pop.

Mike Mareen

Mike Mareen is a German musician, who was born in post-war West Berlin, West Germany as Uwe-Michael Wischhoff, and grew up in Lüneburg. His first musical success was with the band Cemetery Institution who played at Hamburg's Star-Club. Mareen later became a merchant sailor, a job which eventually took him to New York City where he played with several American groups. Upon his return to Europe, Mareen became involved with the production of Italo disco records. During the 1980s, he had some considerable success, with frequent television appearances in Germany and Eastern Europe. His biggest hits were "Dancing In The Dark" (1985) and "Love Spy" (1986). His music "Agent of Liberty" was used in the bar scene in Bollywood film Shahenshah.

Italo disco

Italo disco (sometimes hyphenated, such as Italo-disco, subjected to varying capitalization, or abbreviated as Italo) is a genre of music which originated in Italy and was mainly produced at the end of the 1970s to mid-1980s. The origin of the genre's name is strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982. Italo disco faded in the early 1990s.

Italo disco evolved from the then-current dance music (including hi-NRG) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employed drum machines, synthesizers, and occasionally vocoders and was usually sung in English.

Terminology

The term "Italo", a generic prefix meaning Italian, had been used on pop music compilation albums in Germany as early as 1978, such as Italo Top Hits on the K-Tel label and the first volume of Italo Super Hits on the Ariola label.

There is no documentation of where the term "Italo-Disco" first appeared, but its origins are generally traced to Italian and other European disco recordings released in the German market. Examples include the phrase "Original Italo-Disco" on the sleeve of the German edition of "Girl On Me" by Amin-Peck in 1982, and the 1983 compilation album The Best of Italo-Disco. These records, along with the Italo Boot Mix megamix, were released by Bernhard Mikulski on his ZYX label. The Best of and Boot Mix compilations each became a 16-volume series that culminated in 1991. Both series primarily featured disco music of Italian origin, often licensed from independent Italian labels which had limited distribution outside of Italy, as well as songs in a similar style by other European artists.
