Unfortunately, this bit of seemingly obvious advice came too late for 19-year old Hannah Sabata, who was arrested on Nov. 28th.
Sabata, of Stromberg, Neb., faces charges in connection with the robbery of a Cornerstone Bank branch in Waco, Neb., on Nov. 27th, according to CBS news affiliate KOLN. What tipped off the police to the suspect? The text she sent to her ex and the YouTube video she posted, which featured her bragging about the crimes she'd committed and flashing a large wad of cash."*
It turns out that bragging about robbing a bank at gunpoint in a Youtube video is not the best idea. Understandably, Hannah Sabata, "The Chick Bank Robber," was arrested after being identified in her brag video. Why did she do this? What made her think it would work? What does this off duty officer teach us about defending ourselves against a robber?
1. There’s going to be some question here about the officer shooting the robber in the back, but let’s take a look at what that means. The “fleeing felon rule” generally applies to Law Enforcement Officers in the performance of their duties, and since 1985’s Tennessee vs. Garner decision the ability to use deadly force to apprehend a fleeing felon by LEO has been limited to cases where the officer has probable cause to believe that the fleeing felon is a continuing threat of serious physical harm to the officer or the public. However, how that law applies to non-LEO varies state by state. Make sure to know your local laws so that you know the limitations of shooting a fleeing felon, especially if you’re not a police officer. Here it seems reasonable that the officer was acting to stop the existing threat, and that the robber had a firearm on his person that the officer couldn’t have known was left in the bag when the robber jumped back over the counter, and therefore deadly force is clearly justified here.

Bank robbery
Bank robbery is the crime of stealing from a bank while bank employees, and usually bystanders, are subjected to force, violence or the threat of violence.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, robbery is "the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear." By contrast, burglary is defined as, "unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft." Bank robbery is therefore defined as entering a bank when it is open and obtaining money either by using force or the threat of force. Breaking into a bank when it is closed is burglary.

Locations
Bank robbery occurs most frequently in cities and large towns. This concentration is often attributed to there being more branches in urban areas, but the number of bank robberies is disproportionately higher than the number of branches. In Canada, for example, seven cities have 30% of all bank branches but 66% of all bank robberies; in the United Kingdom, London has 10% of the nation's branches but 39% of its bank robberies.

What does this off duty officer teach us about defending ourselves against a robber?
1. There’s going to be some question here about the officer shooting the robber in the back, but let’s take a look at what that means. The “fleeing felon rule” generally applies to Law Enforcement Officers in the performance of their duties, and since 1985’s Tennessee vs. Garner decision the ability to use deadly force to apprehend a fleeing felon by LEO has been limited to cases where the officer has probable cause to believe that the fleeing felon is a continuing threat of serious physical harm to the officer or the public. However, how that law applies to non-LEO varies state by state. Make sure to know your local laws so that you know the limitations of shooting a fleeing felon, especially if you’re not a police officer. Here it seems reasonable that the officer was acting to stop the existing threat, and that the robber had a firearm on his person that the officer couldn’t have known was left in the bag when the robber jumped back over the counter, and therefore deadly force is clearly justified here.

10 Atlanta area agencies seek serial robber
Investigators from ten metro Atlanta law enforcement agencies are working to find a serial robber who they describe as being armed and dangerous. Officials said they recognized a pattern, that several Subway restaurants and Metro PCS stores were being robbed around the metro area. According to police, this one man is behind at least a dozen store robberies and possibly one armed bank robbery in Troup County. Police said the suspect is most often seen wearing a backwards ball cap and sunglasses, and is after cash. Anyone with information should call police or Atlanta Crime Stoppers.

Greatest Robbery - The Baker Street - Documentary
The Baker Street robbery was a robbery of the safe deposit boxes at 185 Lloyds Bank on the corner of Baker Street and Marylebone Road, London, on the night of 11 September 1971. The robbers had rented a leather goods shop named Le Sac, two doors down from the bank, and tunnelled a distance of approximately 50 feet (15 m) passing under the intervening Chicken Inn restaurant. To avoid being overheard they only dug during weekends. They used a thermal lance to try to break into the vault but ultimately had to use explosives.

The Baker Street robbery was a robbery of the safe deposit boxes at 185 Lloyds Bank on the corner of Baker Street and Marylebone Road, London, on the night of 11 September 1971.
The robbers had rented a leather goods shop named Le Sac, two doors down from the bank, and tunnelled a distance of approximately 50 feet (15 m) passing under the intervening Chicken Inn restaurant. To avoid being overheard they only dug during weekends. They used a thermal lance to try to break into the vault but ultimately had to use explosives.
