The Boeing Everett Factory, in Everett, Washington, is an airplane assembly building owned by Boeing. Located on the northeast corner of Paine Field, it is the largest building in the world by volume at 13,385,378 m3 (472,370,319 cu ft) and covers 399,480 m2 (98.3 acres). This is the factory where the wide-body Boeing 747, 767, 777, and 787 are assembled.
Plans for the factory were first announced in 1966 for it to be the site of the construction of the 747 after Boeing was awarded a $525 million contract from Pan American World Airways to build 25 747s. It purchased 780 acres north of the then little-used Paine Field, which was operated by the US Army in World War II. Boeing had an Everett presence since 1943 In 1968 it began offering factory tours with the first roll out of the 747.
The factory includes a BECU branch and several cafés. Across the airport to the west is The Boeing Store, a theater, and a Future of Flight Aviation Center, which runs the factory tour.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Its variants seat 242 to 335 passengers in typical 3-class seating configurations. It is Boeing's most fuel-efficient airliner and is a pioneering airliner with the use of composite materials as the primary material in the construction of its airframe. The 787 was designed to be 20% more fuel efficient than the Boeing 767, which it was intended to replace. The 787 Dreamliner's distinguishing features include mostly electrical flight systems, swept wingtips, and noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles. It shares a common type rating with the larger Boeing 777 to allow qualified pilots to operate both models.
The aircraft's initial designation was the 7E7, prior to its renaming in January 2005. The first 787 was unveiled in a roll-out ceremony on July 8, 2007 at Boeing's Everett factory. Development and production of the 787 has involved a large-scale collaboration with numerous suppliers worldwide. Final assembly takes place at the Boeing Everett Factory in Everett, Washington, and at the Boeing South Carolina factory in North Charleston, South Carolina. Originally planned to enter service in May 2008, the project experienced multiple delays. The airliner's maiden flight took place on December 15, 2009, and completed flight testing in mid-2011.
Paine Field, also known as Snohomish County Airport (IATA: PAE, ICAO: KPAE, FAA LID: PAE) is a public airport located in unincorporated Snohomish County, between Mukilteo and Everett, Washington. It is served by a Federal Aviation Administration control tower, and has precision and non-precision instrument approaches available to pilots.
Paine Field has three runways: 16R-34L, 16L-34R and 11-29. 16R-34L, at 9,010 feet (2,750 m) in length, is suited for the majority of aircraft, and sees occasionally heavy traffic. It is in very good condition. Runway 16L-34R is 3,004 feet (916 m) in length, and suitable only for small aircraft. Its pavement is in fair condition, with a noticeable rise in elevation mid-field, when compared with the ends. Runway 11-29 is currently closed except for taxiing, and Boeing is leasing some of the runway to park partially completed 787 aircraft.
The airport has 456 general aviation hangars, of which 326 are leased by the County, and 130 are "condominium" hangars. Wait time for a hangar currently ranges between 6 months and 5 years, depending on type.
Everett is the county seat of and the largest city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. Named for Everett Colby, son of founder Charles L. Colby, it lies 25 miles (40 km) north of Seattle. The city had a total population of 103,019 at the 2010 census, making it the 7th largest in the state and fifth-largest in the Puget Sound area. It received an All-America City Award in 2002.
Everett is home to the largest public marina on the west coast of the United States and is the western terminus of the western segment of U.S. Route 2. It is also home to Boeing's assembly plant for the 747, 767, 777 and the new 787. Boeing's Everett facility is known for being the largest building in the world by volume at 116.5 million cubic feet (3,300,000 m3).
In 1984, Everett was selected as the site of a U.S. Navy Homeport, Naval Station Everett. The Naval Station formally opened in 1992 and on January 8, 1997 welcomed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln is no longer homeported in Everett as of Winter 2011. The aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz (CVN-68) has replaced the Lincoln as Everett's homeported ship, as of March 9, 2012. Everett is also home to the Port of Everett, an international shipping port that brings trade, commerce, jobs and recreational opportunities to the city.

This video shows my visit to the Boeing Factory in Everett (north of Seattle) and the Airplane restoration museum, also at Paine Field in Snohomish County. As an aviation buff, and also an engineer (and also someone who applied a few times for positions there getting no more than a "Thank you" post-card), visiting this place was in my wish list for many years. The main reason why I went to Seattle was going to the Boeing Factory. I also had the chance (i.e. went there specifically for that) to visit the Airbus Factory in Toulouse-Blagnac in 2003. There are organized tours but I'd suggest that you'd rather go on your own, so you can stay as long as you want. The visit to the Everett factory, where all widebodies are built (i.e. Boeing 747-8, 767, 777 and 787) is a must if you are an aviati...
Boeing's factory in Everett is recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records as the largest building in the world by volume, at 472 million cubic feet and covering a massive 98.3 acres of land. Author and speaker Charlie Adams takes you on a tour of this factory, which is so massive that when the factory was first built, clouds, the product of accumulated warm air and moisture, actually formed near the ceiling. Since 2006 Charlie has hosted group travel trips for Edgerton's Travel, where he shares inspirational stories and humor along the way. He also produces a 60 minute DVD documentary for travelers. Here on youtube, he shares short clips from the documentaries. For more information on all of Edgerton's group trips, http://www.edgertonstravel.com/grouptravel/ and for information on C...

Watch the new 747-8 Freighter get assembled and painted at the Everett, Washington factory.
Washington is the home to Boeing, and it seems rude to come to Seattle, without visiting the Boeing factory in Everett. Here they make Boeing 747s, 777s, and 787s. The building used to make the 747s is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest building in the world by volume, which could fit Disneyland inside it, and include the carpark as well. It really is a very big building. Driving around the outside is one thing, but another is stepping inside the factory. To see the place that planes are made really is fantastical to me; Kathryn wasn’t so impressed. In my mind it seems a bit beyond comprehension that there’s a place where planes are made, they just always seem to exist. I think it’s because they’re so massive and complex, they go beyond the thinking of a New Zealander. I...
