Today I talk with you about psychosis. What is it and what does it look and feel like to those who suffer. Since there is so much information to cover about this topic, I only go over the different types of psychosis and what those types look like.

There are 5 types of psychosis that are talked about in the DSM 5. They are as follows:
1. Delusions: there are fixed beliefs that cannot be changed even when there is comforting evidence. There are many types of delusions, but the most common types are persecutory and grandiose.
2. Hallucinations: these are things that we perceive, that have no real external stimuli. These can be things we see, hear, feel, taste, etc. Auditory hallucinations (hearing things that are not there) is the most common.
3. Disorganized Thinking: This is noticed through someone's speech. Due to their disorganized thinking, they cannot speak coherently. It can sound like they are hopping from one topic to another without any connection to what you are talking about. When I worked in the hospital we would call this "word salad" because it was all tossed together without any clear connection.
4. Grossly disorganized or abnormal motor behavior: They can struggle with goal-oriented behavior, be oddly silly or childlike, or extremely agitated for no clear reason. This can make everyday activities very difficult because there are organized steps we have to take to get things accomplished (ie. go to the grocery store for food to make a sandwich, get home, make sandwich, eat it, and clean up). Catatonia is also mentioned under this type and this is when we have a lack of response to stimuli. We may not move at all and some even hold poses for a long period of time. Can also be mute or stare for long periods of time.
5. There are the most common, however, they are the least noticeable. Negative symptoms are most commonly a) diminished emotional expression or blunted affect. b) avolition, which is when we don't show any desire to do anything of purpose. There are many other types of negative symptoms, but those are the most common.
Many disorders have psychotic features as a subtype of the diagnosis and there are many psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, brief psychotic disorder etc. If you or someone you know is struggling with psychosis please get help. See a psychiatrist asap! The sooner we stop or diminish the psychosis the better chances we have of our brain healing from it. So please share this video! Please reach out! An intimate documentary that reveals the frightening rollercoaster journey of two mums for whom childbirth triggers postpartum psychosis, one of the most severe forms of mental illness.
It is a condition most expectant mothers and their families have never heard of, but around one in every five hundred births can lead to the sudden onset of a psychotic episode. New mothers are overwhelmed by extreme low or high moods, strange and dangerous thoughts, paranoia and delusions - such as the belief that they have given birth to Jesus or the devil.
This is the untold story of what it means to battle this terrifying condition. Filmed over six months, we closely follow the intense experiences of two women, Jenny and Hannah, and their families, as they are cared for at Winchester's Mother and Baby Unit.
Behind the closed doors of this specialist psychiatric ward, Dr Alain Gregoire and his expert team give women the care and intensive treatment needed to bring them back to recovery. While it is the most severe form of mental distress psychiatrists see, with the right medication and psychological support most women can return home within six weeks. And round the clock support with childcare enables mums and their babies to stay together, rather than face a damaging separation.
From the bedroom to the nursery, the hospital theatre to the psychiatrist's chair - we watch the most personal moments of motherhood and mental illness play out for Jenny and Hannah, as Dr Gregoire and his team face two of the most challenging cases they've experienced. But in one respect Jenny and Hannah are fortunate; they have access to the expert treatment they desperately need. With a severe shortage of specialist psychiatric care for mums-to-be and new mothers, it's a postcode lottery that determines whether women get the expert help they urgently need - over 80% in the UK don't.

Psychosis can happen to anyone and it’s far more common than you think. Stress, drugs and sleep deprivation can all trigger an episode. Teenage and young adult brains are particularly vulnerable. Meet a group of young adults, who share their experiences and how they keep well.
If you know someone experiencing signs of psychosis help them get support as early as possible. A GP is a good place to start.

Psychosis
Psychosis refers to an abnormal condition of the mind described as involving a "loss of contact with reality". People with psychosis are described as psychotic. People experiencing psychosis may exhibit some personality changes and thought disorder. Depending on its severity, this may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behavior, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out daily life activities.
Psychosis (as a sign of a psychiatric disorder) is a diagnosis of exclusion. That is, a new-onset episode of psychosis is not considered a symptom of a psychiatric disorder until other relevant and known causes of psychosis are properly excluded. Medical and biological laboratory tests should exclude central nervous system diseases and injuries, diseases and injuries of other organs, psychoactive substances, and toxins as causes of symptoms of psychosis before any psychiatric illness can be diagnosed. In medical training, psychosis as a sign of illness is often compared to fever since both can have multiple causes that are not readily apparent.

Syxx will be in the Outsider's corner, but will he be enough to keep down the veterans of the sport? The third grudge match that will be settled in Moline on June 15th will be a WCW Women's Championship Match between Japan Legend, Akiro Hokuto with the devious Sonny Onoo in her corner going up against Madusa. The Great American Bash is one of the most historic events in pro wrestling, and one thing is for sure, that tradition will continue in Moline!

Today I talk with you about psychosis. What is it and what does it look and feel like to those who suffer. Since there is so much information to cover about this topic, I only go over the different types of psychosis and what those types look like.

There are 5 types of psychosis that are talked about in the DSM 5. They are as follows:
1. Delusions: there are fixed beliefs that cannot be changed even when there is comforting evidence. There are many types of delusions, but the most common types are persecutory and grandiose.
2. Hallucinations: these are things that we perceive, that have no real external stimuli. These can be things we see, hear, feel, taste, etc. Auditory hallucinations (hearing things that are not there) is the most common.
3. Disorganized Thinking: This is noticed through someone's speech. Due to their disorganized thinking, they cannot speak coherently. It can sound like they are hopping from one topic to another without any connection to what you are talking about. When I worked in the hospital we would call this "word salad" because it was all tossed together without any clear connection.
4. Grossly disorganized or abnormal motor behavior: They can struggle with goal-oriented behavior, be oddly silly or childlike, or extremely agitated for no clear reason. This can make everyday activities very difficult because there are organized steps we have to take to get things accomplished (ie. go to the grocery store for food to make a sandwich, get home, make sandwich, eat it, and clean up). Catatonia is also mentioned under this type and this is when we have a lack of response to stimuli. We may not move at all and some even hold poses for a long period of time. Can also be mute or stare for long periods of time.
5. There are the most common, however, they are the least noticeable. Negative symptoms are most commonly a) diminished emotional expression or blunted affect. b) avolition, which is when we don't show any desire to do anything of purpose. There are many other types of negative symptoms, but those are the most common.
Many disorders have psychotic features as a subtype of the diagnosis and there are many psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, brief psychotic disorder etc. If you or someone you know is struggling with psychosis please get help. See a psychiatrist asap! The sooner we stop or diminish the psychosis the better chances we have of our brain healing from it. So please share this video! Please reach out! It is a condition most expectant mothers and their families have never heard of, but around one in every five hundred births can lead to the sudden onset of a psychotic episode. New mothers are overwhelmed by extreme low or high moods, strange and dangerous thoughts, paranoia and delusions - such as the belief that they have given birth to Jesus or the devil.
This is the untold story of what it means to battle this terrifying condition. Filmed over six months, we closely follow the intense experiences of two women, Jenny and Hannah, and their families, as they are cared for at Winchester's Mother and Baby Unit.
Behind the closed doors of this specialist psychiatric ward, Dr Alain Gregoire and his expert team give women the care and intensive treatment needed to bring them back to recovery. While it is the most severe form of mental distress psychiatrists see, with the right medication and psychological support most women can return home within six weeks. And round the clock support with childcare enables mums and their babies to stay together, rather than face a damaging separation.
From the bedroom to the nursery, the hospital theatre to the psychiatrist's chair - we watch the most personal moments of motherhood and mental illness play out for Jenny and Hannah, as Dr Gregoire and his team face two of the most challenging cases they've experienced. But in one respect Jenny and Hannah are fortunate; they have access to the expert treatment they desperately need.
