According to legend, Colorado’s Cheyenne Mountain is a sleeping dragon that many years ago saved the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. In the Native American story, the Great Spirit punished the people by sending a massive flood, but after they repented, it sent a dragon to drink the water away. The dragon, engorged by the massive amount of water, fell asleep, was petrified and then became the mountain.
Unlike the dragon of legend, the Cheyenne Mountain Complex has never slept during 50 years of operations. Since being declared fully operational in April 1966, the installation has played a vital role in the Department of Defense during both peacetime and wartime.

The Cheyenne Mountain nuclear bunker is a Cold War hardened installation that once was the command center for NORAD, the United States Northern Command, and the Air Force Space Command. In 2006, NORAD relocated to a basement in the Peterson No. 2 building at the nearby Peterson AFB. Northern Command and Space Command have also relocated to Peterson Air Force Base. Canadian military defense partners are now also located at Peterson. The complex is maintained by a skeleton crew and no longer operates on a 24/7 basis, the complex is on "warm standby"; meaning it is only staffed when required. Since 2002, the complex has been classed as Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and has been used in crew qualification training, while the former command function has been designated as the "NORAD and USNORTHCOM Alternate Command Center" since 2008 after all the original functions of the complex were removed to Peterson Air Force Base. The complex is maintained by the 721st Mission Support Group which provides support and maintenance for the 'NORAD/USNORTHCOM's training, exercise and alternate command center functions, U.S. Strategic Command's Missile Warning Center, Detachment 2 of the 17th Test Squadron, Air Force Technical Applications Center's research laboratory, the Defense Intelligence Agency's Western Continental United States Regional Service Center'. At its peak the Cheyenne complex had 1800–2000 personnel, now only 210 remain and the site's satellite dishes and antenna masts are now owned and used by commercial communication businesses. The complex was completed after more than 11 previous US command bunkers (e.g., 1953 Raven Rock, 1959 Mount Weather, 1960 Ft MacArthur DC, and 1962 Greenbrier). Cheyenne Mountain was designed to survive a 30 megaton nuclear explosion within 1.0 nmi (1.2 mi; 1.9 km). The bunker is 5.1 acres (2.1 ha) tunneled within part of a spur of the Cheyenne Mountain massif at the Rocky Mountains' eastern "Front Range". The bunker's standby centers are controlled by a NORAD division, and support services are provided by Air Force Space Command's 721st Mission Support Group. The closest Russian counterpart to the facility is regarded to be Kosvinsky Mountain, finished in early 1996.

Cheyenne Mountain Complex
The Cheyenne Mountain Complex is a military installation and nuclear bunker located in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, which hosts the activities of several tenant units. Also located in Colorado Springs is Peterson Air Force Base, where the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) headquarters are located.
Overview
Formerly the center for the United States Space Command and NORAD monitored the air space of Canada and the United States through a world-wide system for missiles, space systems, and foreign aircraft through its early-warning system. Since 2008, NORAD and the United States Space Command have been based at Peterson Air Force Base and the complex, re-designated as an air force station, is used for flight crew training and as a back-up command center if required.
The military complex has included many units of NORAD, U.S. Space Command, Aerospace Defense Command (ADCOM), Air Force Systems Command, Air Weather Service, and Federal Emergency Management (FEMA). The complex's communication center is also used by the nearby U.S. Civil Defense Warning Center. The station has an exercise, weights, and cardio gym that is open 24 hours a day.

The first part of the final mission. I somehow manage to get crippled in every possible way half a dozen times and didn't bring any doctors bags (not that it matters when my doctor skill is so terrible). I tried out recording at half size for this part, but I don't really like how it looks, so I'll be sticking with full size. -

Subwoofer of headphones required. One great great thing about SG1 is that amazing ambient noise found in basically every shot where they are inside of the Cheyenne Mountain base. It is quite similar in some ways to the ambient noise found in Star Trek: The Next Generation. This sound is great for imagining that you are in the high security Cheyenne Mountain base protecting the world from Goa'uld. Also good for focusing at work, meditating, relaxing, or going to sleep. -

Elevation start point 2,876 feet ascending to 3,841 in about .72 miles. You will always find beautiful views and solitude on this mountain. mostly level 2 and 3 scrambling. Be on the lookout for fossil beds between 3,200 feet and the summit and wildlife such as kit foxes. -
