Tom Verlaine (born Thomas Miller, December 13, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist, best known as the frontman for the New York rock band Television.
Tom Verlaine was born Thomas Miller in Denville, New Jersey, and moved to Wilmington, Delaware at age 6. He began studying piano at an early age, but switched to saxophone in middle school after hearing a record by Stan Getz. Verlaine was initially unimpressed with the role of the guitar in both rock and jazz, and was only inspired to take up the instrument after hearing the Rolling Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown" during his adolescence, at which point he began a long period of experimentation to develop a personal style. Verlaine also had an interest in writing and poetry from an early age. As a teen he was friends with future bandmate and punk icon Richard Hell (Richard Meyers) at Sanford School, a boarding school which they both attended. They quickly discovered that they shared a passion for music and poetry.
Warm and Cool is Tom Verlaine's seventh solo album, the first all instrumental one. It was engineered by Mario Salvati at Acoustilog, NY, NY. Tom Verlaine: Guitars Patrick A. Derivaz: Bass Billy Ficca: Drums Fred Smith: Bass (only on Harley Quinn) Jay Dee Daugherty: Drums (only on Harley Quinn)

Dumbo Arts Festival. Tom Verlaine is the greatest guitarist in New York, yet hardly ever appears on a New York stage. Watching Verlaine perform—rarely proves less than revelatory. Tonight he appears with Television drummer Billy Ficca and the guitarist Patrick Derivaz.

Aside from alternate versions of songs from "Adventure," there's also the unreleased "Up All Night", & two other songs that never made it onto "Adventure", "Last Night", & "Grip of Love" which Tom later re-recorded & included on his first solo album, "Tom Verlaine," 1979. Commodore Ballroom. 9 of the 11 songs played are presented here as a video recording. But the first two songs have a slide show and no video as those two songs I recorded with an audio recorder only. The rest I recorded as video. Also, Guiding Light has a 1 minute+ gap in the middle of the song's video from when my camera stopped shooting, briefly. But there's no gap in the audio. Into that video gap I placed more photos. Richard Lloyd made his name as the guitarist for the underground rock band 'Television'. Having joined the band (Richard Hell - Bass, Vocals, Tom Verlaine - Guitar, Vocals, Billy Ficca - Drums) in 1973, he and Television manager Terry Ork discovered CBGB the following year - the club out of which American Punk music developed. Signed to Elektra in 1977, the band recorded two seminal albums - 'Marquee Moon' and 'Adventure', and despite the stature of these works now, at the time they failed to break Television into the big time, and they disbanded in 1978. In this interview Lloyd discusses the New York underground scene in the 1970s, Andy Warhol, CBGB and the host of acts who emerged there (including The Ramones), his time in Television and the UK Punk scene they inspired.
Richard Hell is one of the founding fathers of Punk Music. Born Richard Meyers in Kentucky, after dropping out of school he moved to New York with literary ambitions. In 1972 he formed the band 'The Neon Boys' with his schoolfriend Tom Miller and drummer Billy Ficca. The following year the band became 'Television', with Meyers and Miller assuming the names Richard Hell and Tom Verlaine, and they recruited young guitarist Richard Lloyd. Television discovered the legendary CBGB, the club out of which American Punk music developed, in 1974. During his time in Television, Hell also developed a unique look, wearing battered and torn clothing, which was the key visual inspiration for the Sex Pistols. He left Television in 1975 and joined former New York Dolls Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan in ...
Beautiful piece off of (ex Television frontman) Tom Verlaine's great solo album 'Warm and Cool', first released 1992. I edited the clip from Japanese scientific short film 'World of Pulses - Electronics and Living Organism' (1962)
Nice instrumental track from the legendary guitarist.

(Ah, shucks...
I should have brought my raincoat,
I knew I should have brought it)
My illusions disappear
At the very thought of you,
Like last night's rain from the rooftops.
Now it's August 24,
Cool as the lining of your coat,
I read the sign but do not stop.
A quiet room, not long ago,
Beneath the silent blue delivery,
No metaphor, no memory,
Above the hours always shining through.
Just the sweetest...
Just the sweetest...
Goodness gracious, my oh my,
I'm really off the hinges,
Thinking of time as something tight, so tight.
But you've made a garden from,
A single tulip on the bed,
I count my blessings all the night.
A quiet room, not long ago,
Beneath the silent blue delivery,
No metaphor, no memory,
Above the hours always shining through.
Course I know that it's not wise,
Gazing into sunlight,
Just the things it falls upon
But the final vision has
Grown at least a hundred-fold,
I see your disillusion gone
A quiet room, not long ago,
Beneath the silent room deliver me,
No metaphor, no memory,
Above the hours always shining through.
A quiet room, not long ago,
Beneath the silent room deliver me,
No metaphor, no memory,
