Lascars (TV series)

Lascars (English: Homiez) is a French animated series created by Boris Dolivet, aka El Diablo, it was aired on the French channel Canal + for the first time in 1998. This series spawned two seasons, the first one in 1998 and the second in 2007, a pilot for a project of a 20 minute series, a comic and a movie. The episodes follow the mishaps of young men living in a district, the series is rife with hip-hop culture, most of the voice cast are French rappers.

Lascars shorts aired in Canada on Teletoon under the title Homiez in English.

Ice cube

An ice cube is a small, roughly cube-shaped piece of ice (frozen water), conventionally used to cool beverages. Ice cubes are sometimes preferred over crushed ice because they melt more slowly; they are standard in mixed drinks that call for ice, in which case the drink is said to be "on the rocks."

Origin

American physician and humanitarian John Gorrie built a refrigerator in 1844 with the purpose of cooling air. His refrigerator produced ice which he hung from the ceiling in a basin. Gorrie can be considered the creator of ice cubes, but his aim was not to cool drinks: he used the ice to lower the ambient room temperature. During his time, a dominant idea was that bad air quality caused disease. Therefore, in order to help treat sickness, he pushed for the draining of swamps and the cooling of sickrooms.

Methods of production

Ice cubes are produced domestically by filling an ice cube tray with water and placing it in a freezer. Many freezers also come equipped with an icemaker, which produces ice cubes automatically and stores them in a bin from which they can be dispensed directly into a glass.

Ill Al Skratch

Ill Al Skratch (also known as Brooklyn/Uptown Connection) is a hip hop duo consisting of two rappers, Big Ill from Brooklyn and Al Skratch from Harlem (Uptown). They are best known for their 1994 single, "I'll Take Her".

Biography

The duo's first appearance on record was their 1994 single named "Where My Homiez? (Come Around My Way)." This song failed to reach the Billboard Hot 100, but charted on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and was an underground hit. Ill Al Skratch soon released a follow-up single named "I'll Take Her." This song featured R&B musician Brian McKnight and reached #62 on the Billboard Hot 100. Soon after releasing their first two singles, they released Creep Wit' Me to minor critical acclaim. It also managed to reach the Billboard 200 and spawned a third single, "Chill With That."

Ill Al Skratch collaborated with various artists including Michael Jackson, Gina Thompson and Shaquille O'Neal from 1995 to 1996. Their works also appeared on the soundtracks of movies including New Jersey Drive and Panther. In 1997, they released Keep It Movin', an album that received little commercial success and critical attention. They have not recorded any music since their 1997 album, but their songs have appeared on compilations including 1998's Hip Hop with R&B Flava.
