Manual (music)

A manual is a musical keyboard designed to be played with the hands, on an instrument such as a pipe organ, harpsichord, clavichord, electronic organ, or synthesizer. The term "manual" is used with regard to any hand keyboard on these instruments to distinguish it from the pedalboard, which is a keyboard that the organist plays with his or her feet. It is proper to use "manual" rather than "keyboard," then, when referring to the hand keyboards on any instrument that has a pedalboard.

Overview

Organs and synthesizers can, and usually do, have more than one manual; most home instruments have two manuals, while most larger organs have two or three. Elaborate pipe and theater organs can have four or more manuals. The manuals are set into the organ console (or "keydesk").

The layout of a manual is roughly the same as a piano keyboard, with long, usually ivory or light-colored keys for the natural notes of the Western musical scale, and shorter, usually ebony or dark-colored keys for the five sharps and flats. A typical, full-size organ manual consists of five octaves, or 61 keys. (Piano keyboards, by contrast, normally have 88 keys.) Some smaller electronic organs may have manuals of four octaves or less (49, 44, or even 37 keys). Changes in registration through use of drawknobs, stop tabs, or other mechanisms to control organ stops allow such instruments to achieve an aggregate range well in excess of pianos and other keyboard instruments even with manuals of shorter size.

Hunter (1973 film)

Hunter is a 1973 film directed by Leonard Horn and written by Cliff Gould, starring John Vernon, involving the kidnapping and brainwashing of a race car driver in order to turn him into an assassin against America. The torture used against him involves forcing him to watch footage of the Winged monkeys from The Wizard of Oz, a-la A Clockwork Orange, giving rise to the now-famous pop-culture catch phrase "Please, stop the monkeys!"

Cunter (band)

Cunter (formerly known as Hunter) is a five-piece hardcore punk supergroup from Brampton, Ontario. It features members of Moneen, Alexisonfire, BWC Studios and The Abandoned Hearts Club. The band was founded early 2009 and is signed on Dine Alone Records. The band members were secretly revealed via a promotional website.

As of May 11, 2011, Hunter changed its name to "Cunter" after being threatened with a lawsuit over the rights of the name.

Pocket watch

A pocket watch (or pocketwatch) is a watch that is made to be carried in a pocket, as opposed to a wristwatch, which is strapped to the wrist.

They were the most common type of watch from their development in the 16th century until wristwatches became popular after World War I during which a transitional design, trench watches, were used by the military. Pocket watches generally have an attached chain to allow them to be secured to a waistcoat, lapel, or belt loop, and to prevent them from being dropped. Watches were also mounted on a short leather strap or fob, when a long chain would have been cumbersome or likely to catch on things. This fob could also provide a protective flap over their face and crystal. Women's watches were normally of this form, with a watch fob that was more decorative than protective. Chains were frequently decorated with a silver or enamel pendant, often carrying the arms of some club or society, which by association also became known as a fob. Ostensibly "practical" gadgets such as a watch winding key, vesta case or a cigar cutter also appeared on watch chains, although usually in an overly decorated style. Also common are fasteners designed to be put through a buttonhole and worn in a jacket or waistcoat, this sort being frequently associated with and named after train conductors.

Treasure (Bruno Mars song)

"Treasure" is a song recorded by Bruno Mars for his second studio album titled Unorthodox Jukebox (2012). It is inspired by Breakbot's song "Baby I'm Yours". "Treasure" was written by Mars himself along with Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine and Phredley Brown, while production was handled by Mars, Lawrence and Levine under the name The Smeezingtons. The song is the album's fourth track and was selected as its third single by Atlantic Records. "Treasure" was first released to mainstream radio in Italy on May 10, 2013, through Warner Music. The track details Mars' band time of party and fun: Philip Lawrence described it as "the kind of song where the whole band can get up and jam". It was described as a disco, funk, soul and post-disco with R&B elements.

"Treasure" became Mars' seventh top 10 hit in the United States since his career begun in 2010. It has also reached the top-five in countries like Canada, Israel and South Africa. "Treasure" ranked within the top 20 in eight territories. It received media attention for its "funk" vibe, that a few artists have brought back, including Mars.

Treasure (Cocteau Twins album)

Treasure is the third studio album by Scottish rock band Cocteau Twins. It was released on 1 November 1984 by record label 4AD. With this album, the band settled on what would, from then on, be their primary lineup: vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, guitarist Robin Guthrie and bass guitarist Simon Raymonde. This new lineup also coincided with the development of the ethereal sound associated with the band's music.

The album reached No. 29 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the band's first UK Top 40 album, and charted for eight weeks. It also became one of the band's most critically successful releases, although the band themselves expressed dismay at it.

The album was recorded from August to September 1984 at Palladium Studios, Edinburgh and Rooster, West London.

Reception

Treasure is considered by many fans to be the band's finest work, and has received critical acclaim. Pitchfork wrote, "Cocteau Twins' third album was titled simply enough. Treasure was an adjective for the endlessly inventive melodic lines you'd find buried in these songs, and a verb for what you'd do with them for years to come", and noted that the record signaled the start of the Cocteau Twins' "signature ethereality".Ned Raggett of AllMusic complimented its "accomplished variety", saying, "Treasure lives up to its title and then some as a thorough and complete triumph."BBC Online wrote, "Treasure was where the Cocteau Twins first got it 100 percent right."Melody Maker described the album as "true brilliance" and stated that the band were "the voice of God".
