The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft. It was developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) from the 1980s to the early 1990s by McDonnell Douglas. The C-17 carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. The C-17 commonly performs strategic airlift missions, transporting troops and cargo throughout the world; additional roles include tactical airlift, medical evacuation and airdrop duties.
Boeing, which merged with McDonnell Douglas in the 1990s, continued to manufacture C-17s for export customers following the end of deliveries to the U.S. Air Force. Aside from the United States, the C-17 is in service with the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, NATO Heavy Airlift Wing, India, and Kuwait. The final C-17 was completed at the Long Beach, California plant and flown on 29 November 2015.
An air force, also known in some countries as an air army, is in the broadest sense, the national military organization that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army, navy, or a marine corps. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces.
The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation either within a national air force or comprising several air components from allied nations. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft.
Many air forces are also responsible for operations of the military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air defence assets such as anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. Some nations, principally Russia, the former Soviet Union and countries who modelled their militaries along Soviet lines, have an air defence force which is organizationally separate from their air force.

US Airways was a major American airline that ceased operations on October 17, 2015 after merging with American Airlines. It operated an extensive international and domestic network, with 193 destinations in 24 countries in North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East. The airline was an affiliate member of Oneworld and utilized a fleet of 343 mainline jet aircraft, as well as 278 regional jet and turbo-prop aircraft operated by contract and subsidiary airlines under the name US Airways Express.
The carrier operated the US Airways Shuttle, a US Airways brand which provided hourly service between Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. As of October 2013, US Airways employed 32,312 people worldwide and operated 3,028 daily flights (1,241 US Airways Mainline, 1,790 US Airways Express) Roughly 60% of US Airways flights were operated by US Airways Express.
In 1979, after passage of the Airline Deregulation Act, Allegheny Airlines changed its name to USAir and began seeking to expand its operations. A decade later, it had acquired Piedmont Airlines and Pacific Southwest Airlines, and was one of the U.S.'s seven remaining transcontinental legacy carriers. In 2005, America West Airlines carried out a reverse merger, acquiring the assets and branding of the larger US Airways while putting the America West leadership team largely in charge of the merged airline.

With many disadvantages to the cold, miserable winter weather we've been having at Melbourne all week, there's still a few upsides. I had the honor of documenting a C-17/KC-135 air-to-air refueling mission performed by a very knowledgeable, friendly, and dedicated flight crew based in March Air Reserve Base located in Riverside County, California (452nd Air Mobility Wing). This video demonstrates the basic functions of the C-17 and what it takes to refuel such a large aircraft in-flight. Aircraft data is as follows: US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III Nr. 55139 – 452nd AMW Many thanks to the men and women of the United States Air Force and especially the wonderful people at March Air Reserve Base for making this video possible. I hope to bring inspiration to the aviation community and demonstrate the hard work and efforts of our armed forces. Ryan Bomar who runs an amazing Aviation Youtube Channel was cover...

This documentary is a salute to the men/women who have served and are serving in our armed forces. Ryan Bomar (http://www.youtube.com/RyanBomar) and I were blessed with the opportunity to cover these flyovers with the 452nd Air Mobility Wing at March Air Reserve Base. This documentary not only provides a salute to those who have served, but shows the hard work and coordination needed to fly precision routes over various Southern California Veterans Day ceremonies in a C-17 Globemaster III. Aircraft data is as follows: US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III Nr. 05-5144 – 452nd AMW (Call Sign: SLAM 19 Heavy) A big THANK YOU goes to the following people of the 452nd Air Mobility Wing: Jon Millmann, JB Guillotte, Tyler Hamill, Ryan Benson, Paul Bugar, Osmin Suguitan, and Linda Welz. The C-17 is capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. The aircraft is also able to perform theater airlift missions when required. The C-17 is equipped with Tracor AN/ALE-47 countermeasure flare dispensers. The cockpit control unit can be used to input mission data together with the numbers and types of expendable countermeasures systems loaded into the flare. The cockpit controller updates and displays the status of the dispenser and the numbers and types of countermeasures remaining. Flare is capable of dispensing the new generation active expendable decoys POET and GEN-X in addition to the conventional chaff and flare decoys which are compatible with the previous generation ALE-40 an...
