Over the weekend holiday I took my kayak down part of the Buffalo Bayou with a coworker and some of his friends. We didn't see any alligators, but we did see a snake and a huge frog (though neither were captured on video). This particular trip started at Bayou Island Dr & Gessner Rd, and exited at Briarbend Park. Our starting point at Bayou Island Dr & Gessner Rd has a little parking lot on the south shore of Buffalo Bayou. The parking lot is intended for residents of the nearby apartment community, but it can be used briefly for unloading your equipment and then moving your cars elsewhere. You can load your kayaks and get in the water just under the Gessner bridge. https://goo.gl/maps/DHMzhWk8CxP2
Until now, few people have seen one of Houston's most beautiful places. In fact, until 2010, hardly anyone knew it existed. The consultants wondered whether they might be able to use the space instead — as underground parking, maybe, or to store mulch. Instead they found a place of sublime, ancient-feeling beauty. From the rooftop hatches, light streamed into the blackness like a message from God. A shallow layer of dead-still water perfectly mirrored hundreds of slender, elegant columns. And the acoustics were the kind that a Gothic cathedral might envy. On Friday...

I like to bike here a lot, but don't always have the time for it. I think a lot of people don't explore their city enough. Hope you guys like the park as much as I do! Use 1080p, much better! Music: https://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud https://soundcloud.com/coreygagne https://soundcloud.com/dogjames

Buffalo Bayou Bliss is a film that chronicles the rich history of Houston as it relates to the evolution of Buffalo Bayou and its connection with the growing identity and fabric of the region. Originating 35-miles west of downtown, Buffalo Bayou winds through a patchwork of diverse landscapes towards Allen's Landing, the historical birthplace of Houston. Akin to many other cities, Houston has been striving to overcome perpetual issues of flooding, pollution, public health, and a lack of equitably distributed open space, all the while attempting to foster an environment that stimulates economic development. By way of expert testimonials, Buffalo Bayou Bliss examines these complex social and environmental concerns uncovering how Houston has dealt and continues to solve these matters by lever...

In this series, we'll attempt to recreate Houston, Texas on a 1:1 scale. Due to size limitations, we will focus on the inner loop (everything inside I-610). Join me and learn about Houston and my adventures therein. Hope you enjoy! In today's episode, we'll develop the area to the west of downtown and put in Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway along Buffalo Bayou.
