Norman Keith Collins (January 14, 1911 - June 12, 1973) was a prominent American tattoo artist, famous for his tattooing of sailors; he was also known as "Sailor Jerry".
Collins was born on January 14, 1911 in Reno but grew up in Northern California. As a child he hopped freight trains across the country and learned tattooing from a man named "Big Mike" from Palmer, Alaska, originally using the hand-pricking method. In the late 1920s he met Tatts Thomas from Chicago who taught him how to use a tattoo machine. He practiced on drunks brought in from Skid Row.
He later sailed the Pacific Ocean before settling in Hawaii in the 1930s.
At age 19, Collins enlisted in the United States Navy. During his subsequent travels at sea, he was exposed to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia.
During his career as a tattoo artist, he worked as a licensed skipper of a large three-masted schooner, on which he conducted tours of the Hawaiian islands.
In addition to sailing and tattooing, he played the saxophone in his own dance band and frequently hosted his own radio show on KTRG (AM) where he was known
as "Old Ironsides".
Legacy of Sailor Jerry
Collins entrusted his artwork to his two protégés, Ed Hardy and Mike Malone.
Collins is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, a military cemetery located in Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu.
His gravesite is 124/Section T.
His widow still resides in Hawaii, as does a son.
Collins expanded the array of colors available by developing his own pigments. He created needle formations that embedded pigment with much less trauma to the skin and was one of the first artists to utilize single-use needles and to use an autoclave for sterilization.
Sailor Jerry's last studio was at 1033 Smith Street in Honolulu's Chinatown, then the only place on the island where tattoo studios were located.

When someone thinks of an old school tattoo they usually conjure up images of a tattoo heart with a banner saying "Mom" going through it. However, there are a ton of really great old school tattoo designs. At one point in history these tattoo designs were relegated to the ruff and tumble guys. People like Bikers and sailors often were the main ones getting tattoos. During this time in history women did not get very many tattoos because it was not as socially acceptable.
However, the sailors and bikers were getting large forearm tattoo designs. If you have a grandfather or an uncle that was a sailor or in the military chances are he probably has a forearm tattoo. Well, like anything fashion cycles and things that once went out of fashion come back into fashion. This is so with old school tattoos. Recently due tot he major growth in the tattoo industry there has been a real rebirth of old school tattoos.
These designs have been combined with the new color inks readily available to make for some really hot looking designs. If you are thinking about getting such a design here are some places to start looking. It is not that you have to completely just copy of the older designs or styles. You can take the ideas and modify it for a modern application and a wonderful design that hearkens back an pays respect to those hardy men.
Sailor Jerry Tattoo Designs
Sailor Jerry is probably one of the most famous of the old school tattoo artists. There is a lot of history on the internet that can be found about Sailor Jerry. Essentially, he did his work from a small tattoo shop in Hawaii where Sailors were frequently stationed. He did a ton of really unique and original designs that people have really fallen in love with. You can find many of his designs on the internet these days as their has been a real renaissance of old school designs.
Gambling
Another very popular theme among these designs is gambling. If you think about it one of the main vices that sailors and other ruffians had available to them at the time was gambling. Of course gambling was illegal a the time but this did not stop a ton of guys from getting cards, and dice as part of their tattoos.
Pin Up Girls
Of course if you were a sailor out at sea for long periods of time a pin up girl tattoo might be just the thing. Many of the guys back in the day got pinup girl tattoos. These have stuck around and always been popular however recently men and women are getting pinup girl designs. The truly sexy designs are often very eye catching.
Sailing Anchors and Ship
if you are a sailor then of course getting a ship or a anchor is a great tattoo idea. Many of the sailors would get big elaborators ship designs on their chest but also on their forearms. These might be of a ship they were stationed on or a pirate ship with a huge set of sails.
There are of course other designs out there such as the swallow, nautical stars and other such old school designs. So if you are looking for a tough manly tattoo design or just something that pays homage and respect to the history of tattooing then do a bit of research and choose a great looking old school tattoo design.

The 3rd and final selection of the GA Thanksgiving Film Festival 2015 is a new episode of Real California featuring artist and tattooer Chuco Moreno. We filmed this August 22, 2015 at the legendary Classic Tattoo in Fullerton, California. Owner Tim Hendricks preserved part of Orange County and tattoo history because the shop was once owned by Eric Maaske.
The film begins with an introduction by Jimmy Allen from Shiner Gold Pomade and was shot at Syndicate Barber Shop in Long Beach, California. Thank you Jimmy for the support and Tim & Chris for opening your house to us.
The film begins with the exterior of the shop and two individuals who have been frequenting the shop for many years. They are from the Twister car club and Steve still brings Eric’s car to the shop and parks it out front. Both men have an affinity and respect for the shop and consider it “home”.
Classic Tattoo hearkens back to the 1940’s style tattoo shop and was created to pay homage for the time period by Eric. Everything from the checkered tile, flash art and wall colors are genuine and true.
Chuco Moreno is a man of immeasurable talent and depth that brings originality and culture to the art and tattoo world. In a trade were imitation is often overlooked Chuco brings his heritage and heart to the forefront and is a herald for Neighborhood style art that originated in Chicano barrios and correctional facilities. Before Sailor Jerry was a spirit you drank, it was the spirit you lived. A spirit about living your life your own way - outside the lines.
For this film we went to Southern California, where people ride vintage bikes, customize cars, get lots of tattoos and drink more Sailor Jerry than anywhere else on the planet. Hollywood talent agencies? Screw that. Instead, we went to bars, vintage car and hot rod clubs and found people who live the life and love the brand.
We grabbed our bikes and rode out to the desert to the Salton Sea, climbed fences, built fires, stayed up all night and shot everything with vintage lenses from the 1960's. Hell, we used a Super 8 camera for almost half of it. Then we combined it with footage that hearkens to an American lineage of rebellion and counterculture that goes back to the 1940's.
The music is "TV Eye" by The Stooges, the band that started punk in the first place. This classic track was recorded live in the studio, May 1970 and this is the first time it's been used like this. The man standing on the crowd at the end, that's Iggy Pop himself.

Kicking off on Saturday 2nd July, three bad-ass, bike building teams from across the UK will be tasked with a series of epic challenges and compete against each other on a hell raising journey of balls-to-wall riding.
This year’s teams, hailing from across Great Britain, include Hackney Wick’s finest bike specialists, Kingdom of Kicks, Welsh motorcycle club and hot rod masters, FTHaters and 2015’s returning challengers, The Ride Originals, who will take on an action packed schedule of hard-hitting challenges on this 9 day tour, in a bid to crowned champions of The Ride 2016.
Before setting off, teams will be tasked with customising their own brand-spanking new Harley-Davidson Street Bob; from sweet handlebars to awesome paint jobs, the public will get to vote for their favourite ride with the winner collecting those all important points.
Each team will be handed their challenge book and routes as they set off, and tasked with making their own way across the country, competing for points along the way. Nationwide challenges will see the teams fight for the lead as they take on epic eating competitions to pit bike races, cutting each other’s hair to wearing their helmet for 24 hours straight- the teams will go head to head to win their Harley and a trip to Norman Collins’ spiritual home, Hawaii. Rolling towards the finish line on the 9th July, the riders will have 24 hours to complete their final challenges face to face ahead of the winner being crowned on 10th July.
James Jordan
Kingdom of kicks was started by James Jordan, Nico Sclater (ornamental conifer) and Ben Claasen in a workshop in Hackney wick, London. Ben and Nico have moved to New Zealand and USA. James still lives and builds bikes out of the warehouse in Hackney Wick.
James first got into bikes after buying an old Royal Enfield in India after a snowboard season in Kashmir. Since living in London for 8 years and buying more and more bikes to work on he started building bikes for friends. His first full build featured on bike Exif (bikeexif.com) was a 1977 cj360 named Moonshine. It tools 2 years to complete but taught him all the skills required to customise a bike including wiring, welding, engine work and fabrication.
Since then he has built several bikes for customers mainly based around the cafe racer style. His own personal taste for vintage choppers has led him to customise his 1970 t120 triumph into a chopper and also start work on a 1957 FL Harley Davidson.
In his spare time he maintains and races his 1958 triumph tiger 110 in the DTRA vintage class.

Somehow amongst Andy's busy schedule he’s nurtured an obsession with bikes - as well as battering a storm of Fat Damon jokes, because Andy looks like Matt Damon, but fat - it really has been a gift from the bearded baby Jesus.
Over the years, Andy's ridden an '92 FZR600, a 72' CB 500 Four, and a 1980 XLH 1000 hardtail chop… it's been a glorious symphony of letters and numbers; much like Sesame Street.
In the last few months, Andy started tinkering with a 1977 FX 1200 - expected to be gracing the London roads by summer. Or rotting in a garage somewhere - it's all part of life's rich tapestry!
Andy still lives in Hackney and still looks like a fat Matt Damon.
Paul Hill
Paul Hill, tattooer and owner of Vagabond Tattoo Studio in Hackney is originally from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
He spent his former years riding dirt bikes and BMX and at 16 started his working life in a custom bodyshop painting and airbrushing cars and motorbikes. Eventually his passion for tattooing took over leading him to London.

Legacy of Sailor Jerry Collins entrusted his artwork to his two protégés, Ed Hardy and Mike Malone. Collins is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, a military cemetery located in Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu. His gravesite is 124/Section T. His widow still resides in Hawaii, as does a son. Collins expanded the array of colors available by developing his own pigments. He created needle formations that embedded pigment with much less trauma to the skin and was one of the first artists to utilize single-use needles and to use an autoclave for sterilization. Sailor Jerry's last studio was at 1033 Smith Street in Honolulu's Chinatown, then the only place on the island where tattoo studios were located. The 3rd and final selection of the GA Thanksgiving Film Festival 2015 is a new episode of Real California featuring artist and tattooer Chuco Moreno. We filmed this August 22, 2015 at the legendary Classic Tattoo in Fullerton, California. Owner Tim Hendricks preserved part of Orange County and tattoo history because the shop was once owned by Eric Maaske. The film begins with an introduction by Jimmy Allen from Shiner Gold Pomade and was shot at Syndicate Barber Shop in Long Beach, California. Thank you Jimmy for the support and Tim & Chris for opening your house to us. The film begins with the exterior of the shop and two individuals who have been frequenting the shop for many years. They are from the Twister car club and Steve still brings Eric’s car to the shop and parks it out front. Both men have an affinity and respect for the shop and consider it “home”. Classic Tattoo hearkens back to the 1940’s style tattoo shop and was created to pay homage for the time period by Eric. Everything from the checkered tile, flash art and wall colors are genuine and true. Chuco Moreno is a man of immeasurable talent and depth that brings originality and culture to the art and tattoo world. In a trade were imitation is often overlooked Chuco brings his heritage and heart to the forefront and is a herald for Neighborhood style art that originated in Chicano barrios and correctional facilities. Before Sailor Jerry was a spirit you drank, it was the spirit you lived. A spirit about living your life your own way - outside the lines. For this film we went to Southern California, where people ride vintage bikes, customize cars, get lots of tattoos and drink more Sailor Jerry than anywhere else on the planet. Hollywood talent agencies? Screw that. Instead, we went to bars, vintage car and hot rod clubs and found people who live the life and love the brand. We grabbed our bikes and rode out to the desert to the Salton Sea, climbed fences, built fires, stayed up all night and shot everything with vintage lenses from the 1960's. Hell, we used a Super 8 camera for almost half of it. Then we combined it with footage that hearkens to an American lineage of rebellion and counterculture that goes back to the 1940's. The music is "TV Eye" by The Stooges, the band that started punk in the first place. This classic track was recorded live in the studio, May 1970 and this is the first time it's been used like this. The man standing on the crowd at the end, that's Iggy Pop himself. -

Kicking off on Saturday 2nd July, three bad-ass, bike building teams from across the UK will be tasked with a series of epic challenges and compete against each other on a hell raising journey of balls-to-wall riding. This year’s teams, hailing from across Great Britain, include Hackney Wick’s finest bike specialists, Kingdom of Kicks, Welsh motorcycle club and hot rod masters, FTHaters and 2015’s returning challengers, The Ride Originals, who will take on an action packed schedule of hard-hitting challenges on this 9 day tour, in a bid to crowned champions of The Ride 2016. Before setting off, teams will be tasked with customising their own brand-spanking new Harley-Davidson Street Bob; from sweet handlebars to awesome paint jobs, the public will get to vote for their favourite ride with the winner collecting those all important points. Each team will be handed their challenge book and routes as they set off, and tasked with making their own way across the country, competing for points along the way. Nationwide challenges will see the teams fight for the lead as they take on epic eating competitions to pit bike races, cutting each other’s hair to wearing their helmet for 24 hours straight- the teams will go head to head to win their Harley and a trip to Norman Collins’ spiritual home, Hawaii. Rolling towards the finish line on the 9th July, the riders will have 24 hours to complete their final challenges face to face ahead of the winner being crowned on 10th July. James Jordan Kingdom of kicks was started by James Jordan, Nico Sclater (ornamental conifer) and Ben Claasen in a workshop in Hackney wick, London. Ben and Nico have moved to New Zealand and USA. James still lives and builds bikes out of the warehouse in Hackney Wick. James first got into bikes after buying an old Royal Enfield in India after a snowboard season in Kashmir. Since living in London for 8 years and buying more and more bikes to work on he started building bikes for friends. His first full build featured on bike Exif (bikeexif.com) was a 1977 cj360 named Moonshine. It tools 2 years to complete but taught him all the skills required to customise a bike including wiring, welding, engine work and fabrication. Since then he has built several bikes for customers mainly based around the cafe racer style. His own personal taste for vintage choppers has led him to customise his 1970 t120 triumph into a chopper and also start work on a 1957 FL Harley Davidson. In his spare time he maintains and races his 1958 triumph tiger 110 in the DTRA vintage class. Jeremy Radford Age: 34, Based: Los Angeles CA Handle: @raddyhd Been into to bikes since I was a kid. My dad always rode so I ended up doing the same. I grew up in North Carolina/Virginia… I’m an Art Director/Set designer and a part time bike builder in Los Angeles. I currently have a 1946 Knucklehead chopper "WakenBake" and a 2015 Dyna lowrider as my work truck, and I'm also working on a couple of Panheads. Andy Clayton Being the grafter that he is, Andy left school at 16, working as a labourer and pulling pints in his local pub. He is now a successful music agent representing talent from across the world and his trips to the pub are far more interesting BUT his true passion lays elsewhere... Somehow amongst Andy's busy schedule he’s nurtured an obsession with bikes - as well as battering a storm of Fat Damon jokes, because Andy looks like Matt Damon, but fat - it really has been a gift from the bearded baby Jesus. Over the years, Andy's ridden an '92 FZR600, a 72' CB 500 Four, and a 1980 XLH 1000 hardtail chop… it's been a glorious symphony of letters and numbers; much like Sesame Street. In the last few months, Andy started tinkering with a 1977 FX 1200 - expected to be gracing the London roads by summer. Or rotting in a garage somewhere - it's all part of life's rich tapestry! Andy still lives in Hackney and still looks like a fat Matt Damon. Paul Hill Paul Hill, tattooer and owner of Vagabond Tattoo Studio in Hackney is originally from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He spent his former years riding dirt bikes and BMX and at 16 started his working life in a custom bodyshop painting and airbrushing cars and motorbikes. Norman Keith Collins (January 14, 1911 - June 12, 1973) was a prominent American tattoo artist, famous for his tattooing of sailors; he was also known as "Sailor Jerry". Collins was born on January 14, 1911 in Reno but grew up in Northern California. Norman Keith Collins (January 14, 1911 - June 12, 1973) was a prominent American tattoo artist, famous for his tattooing of sailors; he was also known as "Sailor Jerry".
Collins was born on January 14, 1911 in Reno but grew up in Northern California. As a child he hopped freight trains across the country and learned tattooing from a man named "Big Mike" from Palmer, Alaska, originally using the hand-pricking method. In the late 1920s he met Tatts Thomas from Chicago who taught him how to use a tattoo machine. He practiced on drunks brought in from Skid Row.
He later sailed the Pacific Ocean before settling in Hawaii in the 1930s.
At age 19, Collins enlisted in the United States Navy. During his subsequent travels at sea, he was exposed to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia.
During his career as a tattoo artist, he worked as a licensed skipper of a large three-masted schooner, on which he conducted tours of the Hawaiian islands.
In addition to sailing and tattooing, he played the saxophone in his own dance band and frequently hosted his own radio show on KTRG (AM) where he was known
as "Old Ironsides".
Legacy of Sailor Jerry
Collins entrusted his artwork to his two protégés, Ed Hardy and Mike Malone.
Collins is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, a military cemetery located in Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu.
His gravesite is 124/Section T.
His widow still resides in Hawaii, as does a son.
Collins expanded the array of colors available by developing his own pigments. He created needle formations that embedded pigment with much less trauma to the skin and was one of the first artists to utilize single-use needles and to use an autoclave for sterilization.
Sailor Jerry's last studio was at 1033 Smith Street in Honolulu's Chinatown, then the only place on the island where tattoo studios were located.

The 3rd and final selection of the GA Thanksgiving Film Festival 2015 is a new episode of Real California featuring artist and tattooer Chuco Moreno. We filmed this August 22, 2015 at the legendary Classic Tattoo in Fullerton, California. Owner Tim Hendricks preserved part of Orange County and tattoo history because the shop was once owned by Eric Maaske.
The film begins with an introduction by Jimmy Allen from Shiner Gold Pomade and was shot at Syndicate Barber Shop in Long Beach, California. Thank you Jimmy for the support and Tim & Chris for opening your house to us.
The film begins with the exterior of the shop and two individuals who have been frequenting the shop for many years. They are from the Twister car club and Steve still brings Eric’s car to the shop and parks it out front. Both men have an affinity and respect for the shop and consider it “home”.
Classic Tattoo hearkens back to the 1940’s style tattoo shop and was created to pay homage for the time period by Eric. Everything from the checkered tile, flash art and wall colors are genuine and true.
Chuco Moreno is a man of immeasurable talent and depth that brings originality and culture to the art and tattoo world. In a trade were imitation is often overlooked Chuco brings his heritage and heart to the forefront and is a herald for Neighborhood style art that originated in Chicano barrios and correctional facilities. Before Sailor Jerry was a spirit you drank, it was the spirit you lived. A spirit about living your life your own way - outside the lines.
For this film we went to Southern California, where people ride vintage bikes, customize cars, get lots of tattoos and drink more Sailor Jerry than anywhere else on the planet. Hollywood talent agencies? Screw that. Instead, we went to bars, vintage car and hot rod clubs and found people who live the life and love the brand.
We grabbed our bikes and rode out to the desert to the Salton Sea, climbed fences, built fires, stayed up all night and shot everything with vintage lenses from the 1960's. Hell, we used a Super 8 camera for almost half of it. Then we combined it with footage that hearkens to an American lineage of rebellion and counterculture that goes back to the 1940's.
The music is "TV Eye" by The Stooges, the band that started punk in the first place. This classic track was recorded live in the studio, May 1970 and this is the first time it's been used like this. The man standing on the crowd at the end, that's Iggy Pop himself.

Kicking off on Saturday 2nd July, three bad-ass, bike building teams from across the UK will be tasked with a series of epic challenges and compete against each other on a hell raising journey of balls-to-wall riding.
This year’s teams, hailing from across Great Britain, include Hackney Wick’s finest bike specialists, Kingdom of Kicks, Welsh motorcycle club and hot rod masters, FTHaters and 2015’s returning challengers, The Ride Originals, who will take on an action packed schedule of hard-hitting challenges on this 9 day tour, in a bid to crowned champions of The Ride 2016.
Before setting off, teams will be tasked with customising their own brand-spanking new Harley-Davidson Street Bob; from sweet handlebars to awesome paint jobs, the public will get to vote for their favourite ride with the winner collecting those all important points.
Each team will be handed their challenge book and routes as they set off, and tasked with making their own way across the country, competing for points along the way. Nationwide challenges will see the teams fight for the lead as they take on epic eating competitions to pit bike races, cutting each other’s hair to wearing their helmet for 24 hours straight- the teams will go head to head to win their Harley and a trip to Norman Collins’ spiritual home, Hawaii. Rolling towards the finish line on the 9th July, the riders will have 24 hours to complete their final challenges face to face ahead of the winner being crowned on 10th July.
James Jordan
Kingdom of kicks was started by James Jordan, Nico Sclater (ornamental conifer) and Ben Claasen in a workshop in Hackney wick, London. Ben and Nico have moved to New Zealand and USA. James still lives and builds bikes out of the warehouse in Hackney Wick.
James first got into bikes after buying an old Royal Enfield in India after a snowboard season in Kashmir. Since living in London for 8 years and buying more and more bikes to work on he started building bikes for friends. His first full build featured on bike Exif (bikeexif.com) was a 1977 cj360 named Moonshine. It tools 2 years to complete but taught him all the skills required to customise a bike including wiring, welding, engine work and fabrication.
Since then he has built several bikes for customers mainly based around the cafe racer style. His own personal taste for vintage choppers has led him to customise his 1970 t120 triumph into a chopper and also start work on a 1957 FL Harley Davidson.
In his spare time he maintains and races his 1958 triumph tiger 110 in the DTRA vintage class.
Jeremy Radford

Being the grafter that he is, Andy left school at 16, working as a labourer and pulling pints in his local pub. He is now a successful music agent representing talent from across the world and his trips to the pub are far more interesting BUT his true passion lays elsewhere...
Somehow amongst Andy's busy schedule he’s nurtured an obsession with bikes - as well as battering a storm of Fat Damon jokes, because Andy looks like Matt Damon, but fat - it really has been a gift from the bearded baby Jesus.
Over the years, Andy's ridden an '92 FZR600, a 72' CB 500 Four, and a 1980 XLH 1000 hardtail chop… it's been a glorious symphony of letters and numbers; much like Sesame Street.
In the last few months, Andy started tinkering with a 1977 FX 1200 - expected to be gracing the London roads by summer. Or rotting in a garage somewhere - it's all part of life's rich tapestry!
Andy still lives in Hackney and still looks like a fat Matt Damon.
Paul Hill
Paul Hill, tattooer and owner of Vagabond Tattoo Studio in Hackney is originally from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
He spent his former years riding dirt bikes and BMX and at 16 started his working life in a custom bodyshop painting and airbrushing cars and motorbikes. Eventually his passion for tattooing took over leading him to London.

Guarded by a sphinx that stretches its paws out toward the Strip, a pyramid looms above the desert paradise, the Luxor Hotel, one of many theme hotels in this incredible city. The MGM lion guards one of the largest hotels in the world with over five thousand rooms, whereas the Bellagio is a return to the exclusive nature of the casino hotels of the past: here, luxury is at its zenith - an investment of 1,8 billion dollars speaks for itself! Only two and a half hours by car to the west of Las Vegas is the USA’s most recent national park that extends to the opposite side of California’s border, Death Valley! Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

These days, Laguna Beach is full of hills, winding streets, and creative personalities, and is the perfect place to shop for art.
If you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path, Crystal Cove is the place for you. Where else can you stay in antique cabins put together from old Hollywood movie sets? Not in Newport Beach, where sprawling, million-dollar homes line the harbor. Can you believe you could once buy lots here for $1 an acre?

In 1975, Cartwright and Rudy boldly opened the first tattoo parlor in the heart of East LA's Chicano community. They hired a recently paroled teenager who, while in jail, unknowingly established iconic images that spoke to an entire generation of Chicanos. Freddy Negrete became the first professional Chicano artist employed by a mainstream tattoo parlor - a tattoo parlor that was embraced as a new vehicle for self-expression by the Chicano community in East Los Angeles. For the first time, these legendary figures tell their stories in a feature-length documentary film. Narrated by LA Ink's Corey Miller, the film features Danny Trejo and Travis Barker. Included are other important figures such as Ed Hardy, Mark Mahoney, Tim Hendricks and Mister Cartoon, with David Oropeza and "Chuco" Caballero, winners of many prestigious tattoo competitions. Their victories brought international recognition to the uniquely American approach known as "Black & Grey". The world of tattoo, and the way we regard tattoo, was forever changed.

Livitz Livitz are a high energy ska-punk-reggae band out of Reno, Nevada. They have been playing shows over the past ten years around the west coast, primarily in California and the Reno-Tahoe area. OTheir style consists of sing-a-long melodies, dance rhythms, and coherent lyrics. Some of their musical influences include bands such as Sublime, NOFX, 311 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Basterd Saints, formerly known as Lingus, formed in the late fall of 2003. Consisting of Gus Caba on bass and lead vocals, Matt Smothers on drums and backing vocals, Tricky on guitars and backing vocals and E.Q. on the shredding lead guitar, they're best described as a blend of 80's Metallica meets 00's Disturbed with a sprinkle sweet misery.The band became a regional act in its infancy stages, playing shows all over Northern California as well as the Reno/Tahoe area. This heavy rotation earned the band a great fan base and networking of other local and regional talent. Local media such as the Reno-Gazette Journal and the Reno News & Review took notice of the band quickly.
NUKE VEGAS started crawling out of the wreckage of previous bands starting with Ben (guitar) in late 2009 and joined by James (vocals) soon after. NUKE VEGAS played it's first show in March 2010. In October 2010 D. (low end thunder and scumbaggery) joined the band and in March 2011 the lineup was complete with the additions of Jesse (drums) and Charles (guitar). NUKE VEGAS blends the wide variety of each members influences to enrich it's own brand of RADIOACTIVE ROCK!

On the upside, we had a hassle-free departure from Thailand at Ao Chalong, a couple of good sails, and a long day of relaxation on the beach.
