In consumer electronics, a remote control is a component of an electronic device such as a television set, DVD player, or other home appliance, used to operate the device wirelessly from a short distance. Remote control is a convenience feature for the consumer, and can allow operation of devices that are out of convenient reach for direct operation of controls.
Commonly, remote controls are Consumer IR devices which send digitally-coded pulses of infrared radiation to control functions such as power, volume, tuning, temperature set point, fan speed, or other features. Remote controls for these devices are usually small wireless handheld objects with an array of buttons for adjusting various settings such as television channel, track number, and volume. For many devices, the remote control contains all the function controls while the controlled device itself has only a handful of essential primary controls.
Earlier remote controls in 1973 used ultrasonic tones. The remote control code, and thus the required remote control device, is usually specific to a product line, but there are universal remotes, which emulate the remote control made for most major brand devices.
A remote control is any device used for the remote operation of a machine.
Remote control may also refer to:

Hans Florian Zimmer (German pronunciation: [hans ˌfloːʁi̯aːn ˈtsɪmɐ]; born 12 September 1957) is a German composer and record producer. Since the 1980s, he has composed music for over 150 films. His works include The Lion King, for which he won Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Thin Red Line, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar.
Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks studios and works with other composers through the company that he founded, Remote Control Productions.
Zimmer's works are notable for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. He has received four Grammy Awards, three Classical BRIT Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award. He was also named on the list of Top 100 Living Geniuses, published by The Daily Telegraph.
Remote Control Productions is a film score company run by veteran composer Hans Zimmer and based in Santa Monica, California. Originally known as "Media Ventures," which was conceived and founded by Jay Rifkin and Hans Zimmer, the company changed its name after the partners both filed lawsuits against each other. Today, Remote Control is home to a large group of composers mentored by Zimmer, many of whom have had successful film scoring careers as part of the company or on their own.
Remote Control Productions has been responsible for the scores for a number of successful live-action films including the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Iron Man, Gladiator, Mission: Impossible II, The Last Samurai, Transformers, Hancock, Kingdom of Heaven, The Da Vinci Code, Inception, Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, and The Dark Knight Trilogy, along with successful animated films such as the Shrek series, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, The Lion King, and more. Recently, many composers from Remote Control Productions have worked on the scores of successful video games such as the Metal Gear and Skylanders series, The Sims 3, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, its sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Crysis 2, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and Assassin's Creed III. Harry Gregson-Williams was the first Media Ventures composer to work in the video game industry. Klaus Badelt, Stephen Barton, Steve Jablonsky, Lorne Balfe, and Hans Zimmer joined a few years later.
Pro Tools is a digital audio workstation for Microsoft Windows and OS X developed and manufactured by Avid Technology. Pro Tools can run as standalone software, or operate using a range of external A/D converters and internal PCI Local Bus (PCI) or PCIe audio cards with onboard Digital signal processor (DSP).
Fundamentally, Pro Tools, like all digital audio workstation software, is similar to a multi-track tape recorder and mixer, with additional features that can only be performed in the digital domain. It supports 16-, 24-, 32-, and 64-bit float audio at sample rates up to 192 kHz, and can handle WAV, AIFF, AIFC, mp3, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and SDII audio files and QuickTime video files. It features time code, tempo maps, elastic audio, automation and surround sound abilities.
The Pro Tools mix engine has traditionally employed 48-bit fixed point arithmetic, but floating point is also used in some cases, such as with Pro Tools HD Native. The new HDX hardware uses 64 bit floating point summing.

On this episode of All Access, we get to sit down with the extremely fun and talented Dominic Lewis. Dom worked with Henry Jackman on the score for the critically-acclaimed Amazon series The Man In The High Castle based on the classic novel by Philip K. Dick. Dominic gives us a fresh and unique perspective into the film music industry as he very quickly rose up the ranks at Remote Control Productions after working with such notable composers like Henry Jackman, Hans Zimmer and John Powell. We discuss the benefits of taking that path for a young composer, and all the opportunities that he was able to make happen with it. Beyond discussing his approach for scoring The Man In The High Castle, we also discuss certain trends in the industry such as "binge watching". Dom talks about being a new ...
If you've heard it, you'll recognize it almost immediately. James Horner's danger theme is ubiquitous to film music, and helped earn Horner a reputation for reusing music between scores. Of course, Horner is not the only film composer to have reused music between scores. This is part one of a video essay analyzing and contextualizing this phenomenon in film music. This part defines self-plagiarism, and provides examples to both support that definition and display its universality among film composers. For educational purposes only. Well,
Things get hectic quick
From the satellite dish to your joy stick
It's the night of the living cable box
Wires coming up from around the block
Remote control to change the station
But that won't change your situation
Have you seen what I mean
I'm the little gnome that's in your dreams
So I say this rhyme built by design
To take you beyond space and time
Said who is the man making diamonds out of coal
The man pushing buttons on remote control
Re-mote, control
Remote control
Until your back's up against the wall
You never know yourself that much at all
So you've got to share your love with a friend
That's all that you've got left in the end
Living in this city of pure confusion
People mislead by their own illusion
All this action, no satisfaction
We're all linked together like a chain reaction
Play or fold, love is bold
What is the future that will unfold?
Some like it hot, others like it cold
But we all want to hold the remote control
Re-mote, control
Re-mote, control
Re-mote, control
Re-mote, control
Things get hectic quick
All of the sudden I'm in the thick
Too much drama all around
Distractions booming in sensuround
Like a rainy day's Earth won't sit still
Sliding on down a hill
Sometimes life seems to stall
So never be ungrateful y'all
So I got a little something for your pay per view
Like Don King I've got the crazy hair do
We've got cameras on Mars on space patrol
