Charles Randolph "Charlie" Korsmo (born July 20, 1978) is an American former child actor turned lawyer.
Korsmo was born in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Deborah Ruf, an educational psychologist, and John Korsmo, former owner of Cass County Abstract and former chairman of the Federal Housing Finance Board. He was raised in the Minneapolis suburb of Golden Valley, where he attended and graduated from Breck School. He has one older brother, Ted (born 1976), and one younger brother, Joe (born 1983).
He is married to Adrienne, with whom he has a daughter, Lilah, and a son, William.
Korsmo's acting roles included The Kid/Dick Tracy, Jr. in Dick Tracy; Siggie, the son of Richard Dreyfuss's character, in What About Bob?, and Jack Banning, the son of Peter Pan in the 1991 film Hook. His final film role was the supporting character William Lichter in the 1998 film Can't Hardly Wait.
Korsmo earned a degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000. Although many sources state it as fact, Korsmo has never worked for the United States federal government on missile defense. However, he has worked for the Environmental Protection Agency, and for the Republican Party in the House of Representatives. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School in 2006.
William Forsythe (born June 7, 1955) is an American character actor. He is most well known for his portrayal of various gangsters and tough guys in films such as Raising Arizona, Once Upon a Time in America, Stone Cold, Out For Justice, Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Dick Tracy, The Rock, and The Devil's Rejects. He also played recurring characters in the series Boardwalk Empire, Justified, John Doe, and The Untouchables as Al Capone.
He portrayed serial killer John Wayne Gacy in Dear Mr. Gacy, a film adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, a college student who corresponded with Gacy his last year on death row. The film was released in 2010.
Despite a popular misconception, William is of no relation to late fellow actor John Forsythe. However, he laughingly admits, "That issue comes up a lot."
Dick Tracy is a 1990 American action comedy film based on the 1930s comic strip character of the same name created by Chester Gould. Warren Beatty produced, directed, and starred in the film, which features supporting roles from Al Pacino, Charles Durning, Madonna, Dustin Hoffman, William Forsythe, Glenne Headly, Paul Sorvino, Dick Van Dyke, and Charlie Korsmo. Dick Tracy depicts the detective's love relationships with Breathless Mahoney and Tess Truehart, as well as his conflicts with crime boss Alphonse "Big Boy" Caprice. Tracy also begins his upbringing of "The Kid."
Development of the film started in the early 1980s with Tom Mankiewicz assigned to write the script. The screenplay would instead be crafted by Jim Cash and Jack Epps, Jr., both of Top Gun fame. The project also went through directors Steven Spielberg, John Landis, Walter Hill, and Richard Benjamin before the arrival of Beatty. Filming was mostly at Universal Studios. Danny Elfman was hired to compose the film score, and the music was featured on three separate soundtrack albums.
