In optics, a prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. At least two of the flat surfaces must have an angle between them. The exact angles between the surfaces depend on the application. The traditional geometrical shape is that of a triangular prism with a triangular base and rectangular sides, and in colloquial use "prism" usually refers to this type. Some types of optical prism are not in fact in the shape of geometric prisms. Prisms can be made from any material that is transparent to the wavelengths for which they are designed. Typical materials include glass, plastic and fluorite.
A dispersive prism can be used to break light up into its constituent spectral colors (the colors of the rainbow). Furthermore, prisms can be used to reflect light, or to split light into components with different polarizations.
Light changes speed as it moves from one medium to another (for example, from air into the glass of the prism). This speed change causes the light to be refracted and to enter the new medium at a different angle (Huygens principle). The degree of bending of the light's path depends on the angle that the incident beam of light makes with the surface, and on the ratio between the refractive indices of the two media (Snell's law). The refractive index of many materials (such as glass) varies with the wavelength or color of the light used, a phenomenon known as dispersion. This causes light of different colors to be refracted differently and to leave the prism at different angles, creating an effect similar to a rainbow. This can be used to separate a beam of white light into its constituent spectrum of colors. Prisms will generally disperse light over a much larger frequency bandwidth than diffraction gratings, making them useful for broad-spectrum spectroscopy. Furthermore, prisms do not suffer from complications arising from overlapping spectral orders, which all gratings have.

Plot: Carl Spitzer's successful life in the big city is crumbling all around him, literally sinking before his eyes. The wife's divorce and the pending lawsuit from his toddler-aged daughter certainly don't help. He's hit bottom. Yet, perhaps the only person with a more pathetic existence than Spitzer is his estranged dirt-leg friend Al Wrankle, who claims a "good life" in the South Carolina upstate while scavenging forgotten daiquiris, sleeping at the public boat ramp and scraping by on suspect vending machine profits. He's a true loser and the girl of his dreams - the small town beauty who passes time duping tourists at the local motel - knows this as well as any. When the two friends Spitzer and Wrankle reunite in a last-ditch effort to validate their pathetic lives, each blindly expects a certain degree of deliverance. They're both grotesquely wrong.

Plot: Rash explores the cultural value of unsanctioned public art and the ways that street art and graffiti contributes to a very public dialogue. This story conveys the commitment, ideals and beliefs demonstrated in this thriving alternative art practice. These artists utilize a variety of approaches including bill posters, stencils, and performance, broadcasting their under represented views that bang away at the community conscience by sticking this artwork right in the public eye. Melbourne has become an attractive place for both local and visiting graffiti artists who arrive from interstate and overseas to leave their mark. With the approaching Commonwealth Games in 2006 local councils have a juggling act on their hands to present a clean and safe city for visitors. This is art and it belongs! The spirit of rebellion is being channeled into street art and these visual conversations are spreading across the walls of Melbourne. This documentary offers a rare look inside these graffiti artists world view.

How prisms work to create a rainbow of colors, the science behind it, using sunlight for the explanation. This includes an explanation of how the electromagnetic waves make up the colors and how the refraction works on entering and leaving the prism glass to separate the visible light into the different colors of the electromagnetic spectrum to produce the rainbow of colors. Dispersion by a Prism: If a prism is placed in a room and a narrow beam of white light is allowed to fall on one of its refracting faces, it is found that light coming out from the other face of the prism is split in to seven colors i.e violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. This phenomenon is called dispersion at light. The phenomenon of splitting of white light into its seven constituent colors is called dispersion of light. Dispersion power: The dispersive power ω of a prism is the ratio of angular dispersion to the deviation of the mean ray u yellow color i.e, Dispersive power ωat prism depends only on the nature of the material of the prism. However, angular dispersion and mean deviation both depend on nature of prism material and the angle at prism. 7 Active Technology...

By Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald For the past week, the Guardian and Washington Post have been reporting on some extraordinary revelations about previously secret massive NSA surveillance programs that invade the privacy of both Americans and those abroad. On Sunday, the whistleblower and source to the stories about the PRISM surveillance program revealed himself as 29-year-old Edward Snowden. This is his story, in his own words.

Where you goin', why you leavin'
I gotta get away, I got my reasons
I had to hide away and take my feelin's
So when I die inside, you'll never see it
And I'm havin' trouble with the things in my way
Coz they seem to be bigger than just yesterday
And my skin is so thick that I can't get out and no
Nobody cares wat I'm talking about
I don't want you to know
Because I'm the only one who needs to
I don;t care what you know
I only care about myself who needs you
Why should I feel or show
It's the only way that I can face the day
You should leave me alone
And I'll deal with it in my own way
How am I doin', with my problems
I'll pretend they're gone and it solves them
I got a hundred more and it's growin'
I got a name for each one coz I know them
And I'm havin' trouble with the things that you say
Coz they seem to be stupider than yesterday
And on the inside I scream and I shout, 'No'
Nobody cares what I'm thinking about
