Melbourne Victory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Melbourne, Victoria. It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under license from Football Federation Australia. Victory entered the competition in the inaugural season as the only Victorian-based club in the newly revamped domestic Australian league. The club has won three A-League Championships, three A-League Premierships, one Pre-Season Challenge Cup and one FFA Cup, the only club to have won all four Australian football trophies. They have also competed in the AFC Champions League on four occasions.
The club plays matches at both multi-use venues, Melbourne Rectangular Stadium and Docklands Stadium, with seated capacities of 30,050 and 56,347 respectively. A youth team competes in the National Youth League. A women's team competes in the W-League. The youth and women matches are played at various locations across Melbourne, including Lakeside Stadium, Kingston Heath Soccer Complex as well as Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
A Grand final is a game that decides a sports league's championship (or premiership) winning team, i.e. the conclusive game of a finals (or play-off) series. Synonymous with a championship game in North American sports, grand finals have become a significant part of Australian culture. The earliest competitions to feature a Grand final were Australia's AFL (Australian rules football) and NRL (rugby league football). They influenced other competitions such as soccer's A-League, the National Basketball League, netball's ANZ Championship and European rugby league's Super League to adopt grand finals as well. Most grand finals involve a prestigious award for the player voted best on field.
The Anglo-Norman term "grand" to describe a sporting event, documented in England as "grand match" in 1836, was used in Australia from the 1850s. A steeplechase in England has been called the "Grand National Steeple Chase" ("Grand National" alone for short) since at least 1839.
Use of the term in Australian Football dates back to the first organised and widely publicised match between Melbourne Grammar School and Scotch College on August 7, 1858 at Yarra Park, Melbourne (formerly Richmond Park). The game was advertised as the "grand football match" in the Melbourne Morning Herald and several other local newspapers.

Taken from the combined terraces last night at our so-called “away” derby match… where Victory fans outnumber Shity supporters by 3:1. Disappointing result, due in no small part to the refs who made some howling blunders across the 90 mins… and into the 91st min awarding the final corner to Shity. Anyway… didn’t stop the original, best and only football fans in this city havin’ a crack, making some noise, supporting the boys. Can’t wait to get back at it on Nov 27th against Newcastle… seems only yesterday we gave them a lesson.. and they’re coming down for more. See you all there… COYBIB !!!
Swan St Stadium sings Stand By Me for Melbourne Victory after the 2015 grand final. I missed the pre-match version.
This week, we ask the players what advice they would give a 10-year-old version of yourself? See the boys in action this week, as we take on Perth Glory at AAMI Park - tickets here: http://bit.ly/MVCPERweb
No idea what started this, but the behaviour of this one "security" person was reprehensible and suggests this may NOT be his best line of work... If you can't handle the heat... don't work in the kitchen dude. There was an older experienced "green dude" (seen on the left of this vid) that was in front of us for the whole match and he was really great... knew how to behave and interact with the fans. Came over and shook hands after the match. A true gentleman Real contrast to the hopped up hothead that hopefully will be history from this line of work. Thanks to MVFC Supporter Marshals too - great job guys.
North, East, South, West stands chant-off against each other. Followed up by massive renditions of 7NA and Stand Up for the Victory. Stirring stuff!
