Melbourne Victory active support group North Terrace ‘cease co-ordination of organised support’

MELBOURNE Victory active support group North Terrace has announced they will “cease the co-ordination of organised support indefinitely”.

Football Federation Australia sent Victory an official reprimand after the lighting of a flare during the 4-1 Melbourne derby loss to City on Saturday 15 October.

FFA received a submission from Victory, which indicated a shift among the club’s supporters who showed their displeasure before identifying the perpetrator. The FFA acknowledged that shift, saying that it influenced their decision to only issue a reprimand, not a loss of competition points.

“In issuing the reprimand FFA is warning all clubs of the need to stay vigilant,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Greg O’Rourke.

“The collective focus of FFA, clubs, players and true football fans is to work together to eliminate all forms of anti-social behaviour, including flares.

“We need to be clear that a recurrence of the incident where flares are ignited in the Melbourne Victory fans area may leave FFA with no alternative other than to deduct points from the club.”

However, according to the North Terrace social media accounts, the group has shut down as the values it was founded on, “are no longer reflected in the current culture and environment.”

The message went on to say that any fans wishing to continue support will “not be aligned with the North Terrace identity”.
