How can a booster boost your beauty?

“Even if you have a great skincare routine that includes a cleanser, toner, exfoliant, daytime moisturiser with SPF, and night time moisturiser, your skin may need a bit of extra help,” says Paula Begoun, Founder of Paula’s Choice, when we asked her to clues us in on what a booster can really do for your regimen.

“Boosters feature ultra-concentrated formulas of superstar ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, and hyaluronic acid,” says Begoun, who also maintains that boosters can be used alone or with you existing products for a, well, boost to your daily routine.

It’s the “ultra-concentrated” concept that differentiates boosters from their serum counterparts, which are more a mix of anti-ageing ingredients, rather than one specific ingredient. Depending on your existing regimen, don’t look at the inclusion of a booster as just one more item to add to a growing list of must-haves but rather a helping hand for moisturisers and anti-ageing treatments alike.

“When choosing your skincare routine and sticking to it, it’s important to note that when you try to make shortcuts or believe one product can do it all when you have complicated needs,” says Begoun. “One product can’t do it all. Skin is far too complicated (it is the largest organ of the body) and has complex needs that need a mix of brilliant products to be used step by step to really make a difference.”
