Benitez has five games to drag his new side to Premier League safety, but appeared confident in his first press conference on Saturday, ahead of Monday's game against Leicester. “The stadium, the games, the atmosphere has always been fantastic,” he said of Newcastle. “There are fantastic fans behind the team. “You know this is a massive club and it’s not doing what it should do. Hopefully we can make the fans proud again." He wasted little time in taking an unscheduled training session on Friday and thanked his new charges for their commitment before talking up their survival chances. “It’s been an intense start,” he admitted. “We wanted to train from the first moment and credit to the players for coming in from a day off. “We need to give the players confidence. I know we have ability. “I have some experience of relegation battles.
