1731 Smuts, provisional designation 1948 PH, is a large, carbonaceous asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, about 54 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by South African astronomer Ernest Johnson at Union Observatory, Johannesburg, on 9 August 1948.
The C-type asteroid orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.8โ3.6ย AU once every 5 years and 8 months (2,058 days). Its orbit shows an eccentricity of 0.13 and is tilted by 6 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. It has a rotation period of 12.5 hours and an albedo of 0.05โ0.06, according to observations carried out by the IRAS, Akari, and Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer missions.
The asteroid was named after prominent South African and British Commonwealth statesman, Field Marshal and philosopher, Jan Smuts (1870โ1950), under whom the discoverer of the asteroid fought in both World Wars. Smuts captured German South-West Africa in World War I and was the only man to sign both of the peace treaties ending the First and Second World Wars. He served as prime minister of South Africa from 1919 until 1924 and again from 1939 until 1948.

Bรถrde
A bรถrde (plural: bรถrden) is a region of highly fertile lowland in North Germany, a "fertile plain". These landscapes often cover great areas and are particularly important for arable farming on account of their rich soils.
These regions coincide closely with areas of flat, fertile loess soil and few trees. Bรถrden are found in Germany, especially in the North German Old Drift region on the northern edges of Central Uplands. The resulting black earth soils are some of the best soils in Germany.
Etymology
These landscapes are restricted to, or concentrated on, those regions where the Eastphalian and Westphalian dialects are spoken. There are two opposing explanations for the name. According to one, the term is connected with the Old High German word giburida ("judicial district") or the plattdeutsch word bรถren ("to bear"). The bรถrde in this context is seen as a district in which the inhabitants had to "bear" public charges, i.e. it was effectively a taxation district. This may thus be a dialect variation of de:Bรผrde ("burden", "heavy load").

Bรถrde, a district in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany, is arguably best known as the area of the former Morsleben radioactive waste repository. The disposal of waste into the facility ended in 1998.
History
The district formed with the merger the former districts of Ohrekreis and Bรถrdekreis as part of the local-government reform of 2007.

Format (Common Lisp)
FORMAT is a function in Common Lisp that can produce formatted text using a format string similar to the printf format string. It provides more functionality than printf, allowing the user to output numbers in English, apply certain format specifiers only under certain conditions, iterate over data structures, and output in a tabular format. This functionally originates in MIT's Lisp Machine Lisp, where it was based on Multics ioa_.

Format was established in 1998. The magazine has its headquarters in Vienna and is published weekly on Fridays. The publisher is the Verlagsgruppe NEWS.Gruner + Jahr has a stake in the magazine.
Format covers topics mainly on business, politics, culture and lifestyles. The magazine also features the views of bankers, trade experts and financiers. One of its former editors-in-chief is Peter Pelinka.
Format had a circulation of 68,000 copies in 2003. Its circulation was 50,000 copies in 2007. The sold circulation of the weekly was 47,155 copies in 2009. Its circulation in 2012 was 31,021 copies. The circulation of the magazine during the first half of 2013 was 39,296 copies.

Field Marshal Jan Christiaan Smuts OM, CH, ED, PC, KC, FRS was a prominent South African and British Commonwealth statesman, military leader and philosopher. General Jan Christiaan Smuts was born near Riebeeck West in the Cape Colony on 24 May 1870. His mother taught him the elements of reading and writing in English, and he only entered school at the age of 12, when his elder brother Michiel died. After only five years of formal schooling, he matriculated with distinction at the Victoria College in Stellenbosch. His time at Stellenbosch is considered significant, as there he embraced the political philosophy of J.H Hofmeyr โOnze Janโ, the leader of the Afrikaner Bond.

Field Marshal Jan Christiaan Smuts OM, CH, ED, PC, KC, FRS was a prominent South African and British Commonwealth statesman, military leader and philosopher.
General Jan Christiaan Smuts was born near Riebeeck West in the Cape Colony on 24 May 1870. His mother taught him the elements of reading and writing in English, and he only entered school at the age of 12, when his elder brother Michiel died.
After only five years of formal schooling, he matriculated with distinction at the Victoria College in Stellenbosch. His time at Stellenbosch is considered significant, as there he embraced the political philosophy of J.H Hofmeyr โOnze Janโ, the leader of the Afrikaner Bond.

Inhalt Folge 2: Diesmal geht es mit Historiker Hans-Gerd Dick und Autor Achim Konejung von der Quelle des Neffelbachs durch das obere Neffeltal bis Juntersdorf.
Auf unserer Wanderung stoรen wir auf besondere Ortschaften: Wir suchen das Schlachtfeld des Kampfes von Ambiorix und den Eburonen gegen Caesars Legionen, lernen anhand der Geschichte der zwei Schneeflocken die Bedeutung der Rhein-Maas-Wasserscheide kennen, finden mitten im Nichts einen einsamen Bahnhof und staunen รผber den Anblick des Abraumbergs einer frรผheren Tagebaugrube. Am Ende der Wanderung gelangen wir an den vermuteten Ort der berรผhmten Chlodwig-Schlacht von 496.
