In this video I share with you my top 10 favorite paintings from the National Gallery London.
10. Paolo Veronese - The Adoration of the Kings
A ray of light illuminates Christ the Child held by Virgin Mary. In bright colors, with aristocratic elegance, the kings the angels, Joseph and the shepherds are in adoration. The stable is built in roman ruins, symbolizing the triumph of christianity over the pagans.
9. Velasquez - The toilet of Venus
Venus is reclining on a bed backing us, while she is looking in the mirror held by a Cupid the protector of love. Even if she is turned away we can see her face. The mirror shows the reflection, suggesting that she is observing herself. The composition mainly uses shades of red, white, and grey, which are used even in Venus's skin.
8. Jean Baptiste Camille Corot -The four times of the day -
Corot painted these four panels in a single week. representing different moments of the same day. Each scene traces the changing light in the sky, the golden glow of the Morning turns into the brightness of Noon, to the blue light of the Evening and finally to a starry Night.
7. Canaletto- The Basin of San Marco Ascension Day
This painting shows the annual festival that symbolize the marriage of Venice with the sea, which is taking place for more than 1000 years. The Dodge is leaving the palace. His golden gondola can ben seen in the crowd, he will go out in the sea and throw a gold ring in the Adriatic so that Venice will continue to dominate the trade market and be prosperous.
6. Paul Cezanne -The Grounds of the Chateau Noir
The chateau Noir was a rambling house set on extensive grounds, where the artist painted some of the finest landscape of his last years. In this dramatic view of the rocky ridge above the house entangled branches and foliage form a screen nearly obscuring the sky, A dab of orange placed at the center of the canvas lends vibrancy to the greens of the trees.

You know you are one of the Masters when your unfinished work is shown in a museum as prestigious as this. This unfinished painting is one of Michelangelo’s works. The Virgin Mary is holding a book while Christ, portrayed here as a child, is pointing to a text. The angels on the right side are studying a scroll, likely given to them by John the Baptist.

Interrupting the kings party, a divine hand appeared and wrote on the wall a cryptic text that declared the end of Babylon. The king is scared, the guests are terrified, the gestures are uncontrolled, the wine is spilled on the tables. History tells us that on that same night Babylon fell to Media-Persia.

The painting was intended to decorate the room that was set aside for Gauguin at the "Yellow House. The built up texture of the sunflowers creates dimension from the full bloom in bright to melancholic. Color yellow is associated with hope enthusiasm and friendship. Van Gogh suggests that the flower are a symbol of gratitude.

Christ child is on the right with an angel by his side, blessing his infant cousin John the baptist. John turns to Jesus folding his hands in prayer and holding a symbolic cross. The Virgin Mary is the image of beauty, surrounded by a ideal landscape. She connects the two children by holding the hand above her son in a protective gesture, while touching John’s shoulder.

This is one of the 12 series that Monet painted on the spot. Two steam trains are in the station while the passengers are going down. It is a perfect portrait of what the modern industrial era meant: a bright day with pure sunlight, clouds of steam, busy peoples going in and out, dynamic style in hues of gray.

Artist and writer David Molesky moderated a conversation with world-renowned art critic Donald Kuspit and master figurative artists Vincent Desiderio, Julie Heffernan, and Adam Miller. With the Odd Nerdrum exhibition Crime and Refuge as backdrop, the conversation examined today’s Renaissance of figurative art, as well as discuss the responsibilities and collective opportunities to shape the evolution of human culture. The panel discussed figurative representations of irony, beauty, gender, race, and morality while tapping into the core of shared humanity.
“In previous decades, humanist figurative art was relegated to fringe relevance, demoted by modernist critics as ‘kitsch sentimentality’. But now the voice and opinion of the masses is having greater sway in both art markets and museums. The Internet allows anyone to easily research and form his or her own opinion. And social media platforms allow people to cast its popular vote. In addition, support has come from publications which have risen in parallel with the Internet. For example, Juxtapoz magazine was founded with the intention to support art formerly excluded from the canon of the Avant-guard, and is today the #1 international art magazine. Just as we can no longer ignore these new measures of relevance, we can no longer ignore the popularity and rising status of figurative art.
With this greater visibility and influence comes greater responsibility. This is a moment of great opportunity to adjust the misdirected myths of the past and sculpt a new vision for humanity. Using the past as our springboard, we can launch humanity into a future that is informed by greater global consciousness and elevated empathy.” - David Molesky
Vincent Desiderio is a New York based painter represented by Marlborough Gallery. His rich figurative narrative work is part of museum collections worldwide, including the Hirshhorn, the Met, the Denver Art Museum, and many others.
Julie Heffernan is a New York based painter represented by PPOW in Chelsea. She is Professor of Fine Arts at Montclair State University. Her illustrious paintings have been exhibited internationally and are included in Brooklyn museum collection and other museums.
Donald Kuspit is a world-renowned curator, art critic, and author of numerous publications including The End of Art. A distinguished professor emeritus of art history and philosophy at State University at Stony Brook, Kuspit holds degrees from many top institutions and he is regarded as the foremost practitioner of psychoanalytic art criticism.
Adam Miller is a New York based painter represented by Richard Demato Gallery. His dense complex figurative narrative paintings are held in major private collections across the United States and Europe.
David Molesky is a New York based painter, curator, and frequent contributor to Juxtapoz magazine and other publications.

National Gallery
The National Gallery is an art museum in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. The Gallery is an exempt charity, and a non-departmental public body of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Its collection belongs to the public of the United Kingdom and entry to the main collection is free of charge. It is among the most visited art museums in the world, after the Musée du Louvre, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Unlike comparable museums in continental Europe, the National Gallery was not formed by nationalising an existing royal or princely art collection. It came into being when the British government bought 38 paintings from the heirs of John Julius Angerstein, an insurance broker and patron of the arts, in 1824. After that initial purchase the Gallery was shaped mainly by its early directors, notably Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, and by private donations, which comprise two-thirds of the collection. The resulting collection is small in size, compared with many European national galleries, but encyclopaedic in scope; most major developments in Western painting "from Giotto to Cézanne" are represented with important works. It used to be claimed that this was one of the few national galleries that had all its works on permanent exhibition, but this is no longer the case.

Western Europe is the region comprising the western part of Europe.
Historical divisions
Classical antiquity and medieval origins
Prior to the Roman conquest, a large part of Western Europe had adopted the fairly newly developed La Tène culture. As Roman domain expanded, a cultural and linguistic division appeared between the mainly Greek-speaking eastern provinces which had formed the highly urbanized Hellenistic civilization and the western territories, which, in contrast, largely adopted the Latin language. This cultural and linguistic division was eventually reinforced by the later political east-west division of the Roman Empire.
The division between these two was enhanced during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages by a number of events. The Western Roman Empire collapsed starting the Early Middle Ages. By contrast, the Eastern Roman Empire, mostly known as the Greek or Byzantine Empire, managed to survive and even to thrive for another 1000 years. The rise of the Frankish Empire in the west, and in particular the Great Schism that formally divided Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, enhanced the cultural and religious distinctiveness between Eastern and Western Europe.

In this video I share with you my top 10 favorite paintings from the National Gallery London.
10. Paolo Veronese - The Adoration of the Kings
A ray of light illuminates Christ the Child held by Virgin Mary. In bright colors, with aristocratic elegance, the kings the angels, Joseph and the shepherds are in adoration. The stable is built in roman ruins, symbolizing the triumph of christianity over the pagans.
9. Velasquez - The toilet of Venus
Venus is reclining on a bed backing us, while she is looking in the mirror held by a Cupid the protector of love. Even if she is turned away we can see her face. The mirror shows the reflection, suggesting that she is observing herself. The composition mainly uses shades of red, white, and grey, which are used even in Venus's skin.
8. Jean Baptiste Camille Corot -The four times of the day -
Corot painted these four panels in a single week. representing different moments of the same day. Each scene traces the changing light in the sky, the golden glow of the Morning turns into the brightness of Noon, to the blue light of the Evening and finally to a starry Night.
7. Canaletto- The Basin of San Marco Ascension Day
This painting shows the annual festival that symbolize the marriage of Venice with the sea, which is taking place for more than 1000 years. The Dodge is leaving the palace. His golden gondola can ben seen in the crowd, he will go out in the sea and throw a gold ring in the Adriatic so that Venice will continue to dominate the trade market and be prosperous.
6. Paul Cezanne -The Grounds of the Chateau Noir
The chateau Noir was a rambling house set on extensive grounds, where the artist painted some of the finest landscape of his last years. In this dramatic view of the rocky ridge above the house entangled branches and foliage form a screen nearly obscuring the sky, A dab of orange placed at the center of the canvas lends vibrancy to the greens of the trees.
5. Michelangelo - The Manchester Madonna
You know you are one of the Masters when your unfinished work is shown in a museum as prestigious as this. This unfinished painting is one of Michelangelo’s works. The Virgin Mary is holding a book while Christ, portrayed here as a child, is pointing to a text. The angels on the right side are studying a scroll, likely given to them by John the Baptist.
4. Rembrandt - Belshazzar’s feast
Interrupting the kings party, a divine hand appeared and wrote on the wall a cryptic text that declared the end of Babylon. The king is scared, the guests are terrified, the gestures are uncontrolled, the wine is spilled on the tables. History tells us that on that same night Babylon fell to Media-Persia.
3. Vincent Van Gogh - Sunflowers
The painting was intended to decorate the room that was set aside for Gauguin at the "Yellow House. The built up texture of the sunflowers creates dimension from the full bloom in bright to melancholic. Color yellow is associated with hope enthusiasm and friendship. Van Gogh suggests that the flower are a symbol of gratitude.
2. Leonardo Da Vinci - The Virgin of the rocks
Christ child is on the right with an angel by his side, blessing his infant cousin John the baptist. John turns to Jesus folding his hands in prayer and holding a symbolic cross. The Virgin Mary is the image of beauty, surrounded by a ideal landscape. She connects the two children by holding the hand above her son in a protective gesture, while touching John’s shoulder.
1. Claude Monet - The Gare St-Lazare
This is one of the 12 series that Monet painted on the spot. Two steam trains are in the station while the passengers are going down. It is a perfect portrait of what the modern industrial era meant: a bright day with pure sunlight, clouds of steam, busy peoples going in and out, dynamic style in hues of gray.

Artist and writer David Molesky moderated a conversation with world-renowned art critic Donald Kuspit and master figurative artists Vincent Desiderio, Julie Heffernan, and Adam Miller. With the Odd Nerdrum exhibition Crime and Refuge as backdrop, the conversation examined today’s Renaissance of figurative art, as well as discuss the responsibilities and collective opportunities to shape the evolution of human culture. The panel discussed figurative representations of irony, beauty, gender, race, and morality while tapping into the core of shared humanity.
“In previous decades, humanist figurative art was relegated to fringe relevance, demoted by modernist critics as ‘kitsch sentimentality’. But now the voice and opinion of the masses is having greater sway in both art markets and museums. The Internet allows anyone to easily research and form his or her own opinion. And social media platforms allow people to cast its popular vote. In addition, support has come from publications which have risen in parallel with the Internet. For example, Juxtapoz magazine was founded with the intention to support art formerly excluded from the canon of the Avant-guard, and is today the #1 international art magazine. Just as we can no longer ignore these new measures of relevance, we can no longer ignore the popularity and rising status of figurative art.
With this greater visibility and influence comes greater responsibility. This is a moment of great opportunity to adjust the misdirected myths of the past and sculpt a new vision for humanity. Using the past as our springboard, we can launch humanity into a future that is informed by greater global consciousness and elevated empathy.” - David Molesky
Vincent Desiderio is a New York based painter represented by Marlborough Gallery. His rich figurative narrative work is part of museum collections worldwide, including the Hirshhorn, the Met, the Denver Art Museum, and many others.
Julie Heffernan is a New York based painter represented by PPOW in Chelsea. She is Professor of Fine Arts at Montclair State University. Her illustrious paintings have been exhibited internationally and are included in Brooklyn museum collection and other museums.
Donald Kuspit is a world-renowned curator, art critic, and author of numerous publications including The End of Art. A distinguished professor emeritus of art history and philosophy at State University at Stony Brook, Kuspit holds degrees from many top institutions and he is regarded as the foremost practitioner of psychoanalytic art criticism.
Adam Miller is a New York based painter represented by Richard Demato Gallery. His dense complex figurative narrative paintings are held in major private collections across the United States and Europe.

Painting: Jakub Kreft Music: Ian Costabile Cello: David Gomez Ian Costabile and Jakub Kreft present their ideas through a provocative approach between art disciplines. Through combining live painting, music and technology they are searching for more than an interaction between arts, it is a search for syntony; the harmonic correspondence of thoughts and emotions between performers. At the same time the cello (David Gomez) sustains organic sonorities, the painter adjusts spatial balance and a variety of other parameters due to electronic sensors attached to the canvas. Thus, visual transformations become a result of sound influence on the painter, while the painter’s actions also influence musical interpretation. Exceptional sense of color and light is what Russian artist Bato Dugarzhapov is famous for. During his workshop Bato shows how quick, intutive and natural the painting process should be. To achieve better results put yourself into time emergency situation by setting tight limit of 8-10 minutes for entire session. Performing strictly timed session will force you to think "big masses and relationships" not being distracted by trivia (or better do not think at all, relying on intuition). Comedian, actor, writer, television presenter and former member of Monty Python, Michael Palin joins the National Gallery's Head of Curatorial, Caroline Campbell, to share his top ten paintings in the National Gallery collection in a special in conversation event.
The discussion features beautifully composed Renaissance works by artists like Duccio, an extravagant scene by Bronzino (who painted the foot used by Monty Python's Terry Gilliam in his animations), as well as some of the most most popular paintings in the collection, from Holbein's 'The Ambassadors' to J.M.W. Turner, alongside some lesser-known gems.

The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art, opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985 in order to exhibit his collection to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames, and finally in Chelsea, its current location. Saatchi's collection—and hence the gallery's shows—has had distinct phases, starting with US artists and minimalism, moving to the Damien Hirst-led Young British Artists, followed by shows purely of painting, and then returning to contemporary art from America in USA Today at the Royal Academy in London. A 2008 exhibition of contemporary Chinese art formed the inaugural exhibition in the new venue for the gallery at the Duke of York's HQ.
The gallery has been an influence on art in Britain since its opening. It has also had a history of media controversy, which it has actively courted, and has earned extremes of critical reaction. Many artists shown at the gallery are unknown not only to the general public but also to the commercial art world; showing at the gallery has provided a springboard to launch careers.

is recognized for her exceptional balance of color and light. She intertwines the bold strokes of thick impasto with softly layered translucent washes. The use of natural stucco and the combination of multiple layers of different media present the viewer with a three dimensional work. The Ginger Cook style of painting is both fresh and innovative.
She delights the viewers with her for unique painting style and mastery of color and is held in high esteem by many major manufactures of fine art acrylic paint in the world.
In 1997, she received 4-winning first place awards and the overall Grand Prize win of Liquitex “Paint a Difference Competition", an open call to acrylic artist across the world to submit artwork that represented the best of Acrylic Painting. Liquitex subsequently featured her as a Master Acrylic Artist, with a show of her paintings at the National Academy of Design in New York City.
Utrecht acrylics paid her the complement of a full page ad featuring their paint and her artwork in Artist Magazine the following year.
2007 Chroma Online Acrylic Paint of Australia have asked her to test then newest product and subsequently represent it to various art groups and university students in her Southwest Region of the United States.

Ian Costabile and Jakub Kreft present their ideas through a provocative approach between art disciplines. Through combining live painting, music and technology they are searching for more than an interaction between arts, it is a search for syntony; the harmonic correspondence of thoughts and emotions between performers.
At the same time the cello (David Gomez) sustains organic sonorities, the painter adjusts spatial balance and a variety of other parameters due to electronic sensors attached to the canvas. Thus, visual transformations become a result of sound influence on the painter, while the painter’s actions also influence musical interpretation. All above is expressed through the use of colours and sonorities that occur concurrently, infusing an organised texture to hybrid art.
