INFORMED she was HIV positive aged 11, Paida Mutopo believed she would never be able to have children for fear of passing on the condition. But despite carrying the potentially fatal virus, Paida, now 20, from Rochdale in Manchester, gave birth to her son Kai five months ago. Tests have confirmed that Kai is HIV free and the proud mother is now out to teach the world that HIV is no longer a death sentence - or even a barrier to becoming a parent. Paida, who contracted HIV from her mum Mavis, has now set her sights on going to university to study social work to help build a bright future for her and Kai. She also uses public speaking engagements and does Q&As; on social media platforms like Facebook and Snapchat to challenge the stigmatisation of HIV patients.

HIV
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus (a subgroup of retrovirus) that causes HIV infection and over time acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a condition in humans in which progressive failure of the immune system allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Without treatment, average survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be 9 to 11 years, depending on the HIV subtype. Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, or breast milk. Within these bodily fluids, HIV is present as both free virus particles and virus within infected immune cells.
HIV infects vital cells in the human immune system such as helper T cells (specifically CD4+ T cells), macrophages, and dendritic cells. HIV infection leads to low levels of CD4+ T cells through a number of mechanisms, including pyroptosis of abortively infected T cells,apoptosis of uninfected bystander cells, direct viral killing of infected cells, and killing of infected CD4+ T cells by CD8 cytotoxic lymphocytes that recognize infected cells. When CD4+ T cell numbers decline below a critical level, cell-mediated immunity is lost, and the body becomes progressively more susceptible to opportunistic infections.

Stephen Fry
Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English comedian, actor, writer, presenter and activist.
After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from two schools and spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, Fry secured a place at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature. While at university, he became involved with the Cambridge Footlights, where he met his long-time collaborator Hugh Laurie. As half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and also took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.
Fry's acting roles include a Golden Globe Award–nominated lead performance in the film Wilde, Melchett in the BBC television series Blackadder, the title character in the television series Kingdom, a recurring guest role as Dr Gordon Wyatt on the crime series Bones, and as Gordon Deitrich in the dystopian thriller V for Vendetta. He has also written and presented several documentary series, including the Emmy Award–winning Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, which saw him explore his bipolar disorder, and the travel series Stephen Fry in America. He is also the long-time host of the BBC television quiz show QI.

But despite carrying the potentially fatal virus, Paida, now 20, from Rochdale in Manchester, gave birth to her son Kai five months ago. Tests have confirmed that Kai is HIV free and the proud mother is now out to teach the world that HIV is no longer a death sentence - or even a barrier to becoming a parent. Paida, who contracted HIV from her mum Mavis, has now set her sights on going to university to study social work to help build a bright future for her and Kai. She also uses public speaking engagements and does Q&As; on social media platforms like Facebook and Snapchat to challenge the stigmatisation of HIV patients.

It is one that I have been working on over the last couple of days in an effort to tell you about my death of a heart attack on January 15, 2013, in the examination of the admission room at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, in the emergency room. An international study 15 years in the making has shown that it’s ‘survival of the wimpiest’ among subtypes and strains when it comes to understanding the spread of HIV/AIDS around the world, a virus that has killed an estimated 35 million people since the 1970s. Dating back to the early 2000s, Eric Arts, Chair of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, co-led a research team that monitored approximately 300 women in Uganda and Zimbabwe newly infected with HIV and examined their physical and mental health, as well as their social and behavioural patterns, for close to a decade in some cases. After vigerous efforts on the part of the medical staff, the wailing and pleading of my wife and grand daughter for my life (joined by all of the other medical personall who had gathered in the hallway because of all of the noise and crying, I regained my counsciousness, pulse and heart beat and came back to life. In short, I died for approximately 8-10 minutes, and came back to life. This is the essence of the story that can be easily varified. I want you to know about this story because much information has bee posted on the various social media websites about my sickness and death. I am still alive. An international study 15 years in the making has shown that it’s ‘survival of the wimpiest’ among subtypes and strains when it comes to understanding the spread of HIV/AIDS around the world, a virus that has killed an estimated 35 million people since the 1970s. Dating back to the early 2000s, Eric Arts, Chair of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, co-led a research team that monitored approximately 300 women in Uganda and Zimbabwe newly infected with HIV and examined their physical and mental health, as well as their social and behavioural patterns, for close to a decade in some cases. Wakil Gubernur DKI Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidayat meminta agar Puskesmas di DKI Jakarta memberikan penanganan khusus terhadap penderita HIV/AIDS dan Gizi Buruk. Puskesmas yang ada di tingkat kelurahan juga harus mendukung Puskesmas Kecamatan dalam menangani HIV/AIDS dan Gizi Buruk. Demikian diungkapakan Djarot saat meninjau Puskesmas Kecamatan Cilincing, dijalan Jalan Tipar Cakung dan Rumah Sakit Umum Kecamatan Cilincing, Jalan Madya Kebantenan Kelurahan Sukapura, Kecamatan Cilincing, Jakarta Utara. Kamis (13/10/2016). Menurut Djarot bagi para penderita HIV/AIDS harus diberikan Antiretroviral (ARV) obat untuk memperlambat perkembangan virus HIV dan diberikan secara gratis di setiap Puskesmas. Lebih lanjut Djarot menambahkan di Jakarta Utara sendiri sudah ada 3 Puskesmas Kecamatan yang menangani HIV/AIDS yakni Puskesmas Kecamatan Cilincing, Koja, serta Puskesmas Tanjung Priok.

As many men in the community become condom weary, and some even consciously desire HIV infection, disturbing new trends of risky behavior have pushed the rate of new infections back into a rapid rise, all to the mantra of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Using Internet sites for promotion and connection, a community of barebackers (those who have sex without a condom) is flourishing. This includes bug chasers who host conversion parties where men actively seek the gift of HIV infection.
Doug, a central character of the film, is a bright, articulate young man who moved from the Midwest to San Francisco in search of a gay community. He became a bug chaser and actively sought the gift of HIV infection. When Doug became infected with the virus, he felt a sense of belonging to a community. He is now dealing with the unexpected severity of his illness.
Also featured in the documentary is noted psychoanalyst and community activist Walt Odets, MD, author of In the Shadow of the Epidemic. Dr.Odets examines the loss, grief and anxiety experienced by HIV negative
men living with the AIDS epidemic, and he speaks out about why prevention has failed and what needs to be done.
It is the filmmakers' hope that The Gift will create dialogue within the community and raise awareness of the issues of isolation and division in the gay community around HIV status, thereby leading to a renewed prevention effort.
