DHS allegedly placed kids in care of teacher charged with child sex offences for decades

A TEACHER charged with child sex offences allegedly had kids placed in his care by the State Government for decades.

Families and Children Minister Jenny Mikakos said tonight that the man, 79, had been since suspended as a carer by the Department of Health and Human Services.

“I have directed my Department to follow up with any person that had been placed in his care, including those who are now adults,” Ms Mikakos said.

“The Department is working closely with Victoria Police on this matter and will ensure that all allegations are thoroughly investigated.”

“As there is an ongoing police investigation, it’s not appropriate to comment further.”

Victoria Police confirmed the 79-year-old had been charged with historical sex offences, which Channel Seven reported were related to his time as a teacher in Dandenong in the 1960s and 1970s.

He is expected to face Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court soon.
