Tie (typography)

The tie is a symbol in the shape of an arc similar to a large breve, used in Greek, phonetic alphabets, and Z notation. It can be used between two characters with spacing as punctuation, or non-spacing as a diacritic. It can be above or below, and reversed. Its forms are called tie, double breve, enotikon or papyrological hyphen, ligature tie, and undertie.

Greek

The enotikon (ενωτικόν, enōtikón, lit. "uniter"), papyrological hyphen, or Greek hyphen was a low tie mark found in late Classical and Byzantine papyri. In an era when Greek texts were typically written scripta continua, the enotikon served to show that a series of letters should be read as a single word rather than misunderstood as two separate words. (Its companion mark was the hypodiastole, which showed that a series of letters should be understood as two separate words.) Although modern Greek now uses the Latin hyphen, ELOT included mention of the enotikon in its romanization standard and Unicode is able to reproduce the symbol with its characters U+203F   ‿ UNDERTIE and U+035C  ͜  COMBINING DOUBLE BREVE BELOW.

Angiopoietin receptor

The angiopoietin receptors are receptors that bind angiopoietin.

TIE-1 and TIE-2 comprise the cell-surface receptors that bind and are activated by the angiopoietins, (Ang1, Ang2, Ang3, Ang4). The angiopoietins are protein growth factors required for the formation of blood vessels (angiogenesis).

Angiopoietins

The angiopoietins are protein growth factors that promote angiogenesis, the formation of blood vessels. There are now four identified angiopoietins: Ang1, Ang2, Ang3, Ang4. Ang1 and Ang4 function as agonistic or activating ligands for Tie2, whereas Ang2 and Ang3 behave as competitive antagonists. They function by binding their physiologic receptors, Tie-1 and Tie-2. These are receptor tyrosine kinases, so named because they mediate cell signals by inducing the phosphorylation of key tyrosines, thus initiating cell signalling. It is somewhat controversial which of the Tie receptors mediate functional signals downstream of Ang stimulation. But it is clear that at least Tie-2 is capable of physiologic activation as a result of binding the angiopoietins.

Quick (German magazine)

Quick was a German-language weekly illustrated news magazine published from 25 April 1948 to 27 August 1992 in Hamburg, Germany.

History and profile

Quick was the first magazine published in Germany after the Second World War. The magazine was first published on 25 April 1948 and had an initial print run of 110,000 copies. It had its headquarters in Hamburg. The magazine was launched by the Bauer Media Group and was published on a weekly basis.

Traudl Junge, Adolf Hitler's secretary, for many years worked as a secretary for the chief editorial staff of Quick.

At one time one of the most important magazines in its class, it reached a peak circulation of 1.7 million copies in 1960. As attitudes towards sex changed, the magazine tried to adapt, including more coverage of sex and crime in the 1980s. This was not a success; advertising revenue fell by 50% and circulation to 700,000 between 1990 and the closing of the magazine in 1992. It ceased publication on 27 August 1992.

Simplified Cangjie

Simplified Cangjie, known as Quick (Chinese: 簡易) or Sucheng (Chinese: 速成) is a stroke based keyboard input method based on the Cangjie IME (倉頡輸入法) but simplfied with select lists. Unlike full Cangjie, the user enters only the first and last keystrokes used in the Cangjie system, and then chooses the desired character from a list of candidate Chinese characters that pops up. This method is popular in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Simplified Cangjie is one of the few input methods which has an IME pre-installed on Chinese-capable personal computers.

Performance and learning

Although described as having an easier learning curve with less errors, Simplified Cangjie users have slower typing speed compared to full Cangjie. The user must choose from a list of candidate characters, which can be compared to "hunt and peck" vs. ordinary touch typing. Because Simplified Cangjie does not promote the full sequence of keystrokes of standard Cangjie, it could leave simplified Cangjie users without knowledge of how to code a character without the disambiguation lists.

Quick (sportswear)

Quick is a Dutch manufacturer of sportswear. In 1905, Quick was founded in Hengelo, Gelderland, and started the production of athletic shoes for many sports. Quick provided the official running shoes for the Olympic Games of 1928 in Amsterdam. Although tennis, hockey, cycling, and indoor sports were very important, the brand became most famous for its football boots. Quick expanded in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but declined in the 1980s and stopped production in 1992.

New start

After 10 years of absence, Quick was relaunched in 2001. Whereas the brand formerly produced functional sportswear, the emphasis now lies on sneakers and apparel that are worn as retro-fashion. Many of the old models from before 1992 have once again been taken into production.

In 2005, Quick celebrated its 100-year anniversary and published an anniversary-book that describes the history of the brand.

Quick supplies the team wear for the Dutch club side AZ (football club). Today, after a short hiatus, Quick are dressing SC Cambuur in Eredivisie, De Graafschap and Excelsior (starting in the 2015/16 season) of the Eerste Divisie, and other teams in Dutch amateur football and are also partners of the BFC Selectie.

Plot

A retired teacher and novelist (Bruno), who survives by private tutoring, is currently writing the biography for former adult star (Tina). He then discovers that one of his students (Luca), a teenager who is on the brink of failure at school, is actually his son.

Music

The twelve tracks of the original soundtrack were produced by The Ceasars and sung by the Italian rapper Amir Issaa, then published by EMI Music Publishing Italy. The official videoclip of the film, directed by Gianluca Catania, won the 2012 Roma Videoclip Award. The Ceasars and Amir were nominated for the 2012 David di Donatello Award and Nastro d'Argento (silver ribbons) for the song “Scialla” and won the 2012 “Premio Cinema Giovane” for the best original soundtrack.
