Ashley (New Zealand electorate)

Ashley was a New Zealand electorate situated north of Christchurch. It was in use from 1866 to 1902, and was replaced with the Hurunui electorate.

Population centres

In the 1865 electoral redistribution, the House of Representatives focussed its review of electorates to South Island electorates only, as the Central Otago Gold Rush had caused significant population growth, and a redistribution of the existing population. Fifteen additional South Island electorates were created, including Ashley, and the number of Members of Parliament was increased by 13 to 70.

The Ashley electorate was formed from a corner of Cheviot electorate, and included the towns of Ashley, Amberley, and Oxford. The electorate's boundaries remained roughly the same until the 1881 elections, when it expanded slightly into Kaiapoi electorate and Amberley was returned to Cheviot. In the 1887 elections, the electorate expanded westwards into Cheviot's southern tip. In the 1890 elections, Cheviot itself was abolished, and the majority of its territory was absorbed into Ashley — to compensate, territory was taken from Ashley in the south and given to Kaiapoi. In the 1893 elections, Ashley expanded further north, taking the town of Kaikoura from Wairau electorate, but ceded Oxford to Kaiapoi in the south. In the 1902 elections, Ashley was dissolved, being replaced with an electorate called Hurunui, covering much the same area.

Ashley (singer)

Ashley Colón, better known as la chica bomba (the bomb girl) (b. October 27, 1975, in Puerto Rico), is a Puerto Rican merengue artist singer. Mostly influenced by popular Puerto Rican singer and actress Iris Chacón, Ashley Colón began her successful career while leading a tropical music band Las Chicas del Clan, meaning "the girls of the clan". Her debut as a solo artist came in 1997 with the release of the album Yo Soy La Bomba, meaning "I am the bomb", the hit song of the same name,Yo Soy La Reina, meaning "I am the queen", followed that same year. A live performance with Elvis Crespo at the annual “Tu Música” awards ceremony. In 1999 Abrázame, meaning "hug me", became her international breakthrough, supported by a Latin American and U.S. tour. In 1999 she released a Tejano music CD called Sabor a Dulce, meaning "sweet taste" followed by a greatest hits CD in 2000 called Oro Merenguero, meaning "Merengue-like gold". She also released "El Poder de las Mujeres" ("the power of the women"). Her last CD release was "Estoy Loca" ("I am crazy") in 2003.

Ashley (name)

The name "Ashley" /ˈæʃli/ is of English origin, from a place name and surname from the Old English words 'æsc' (ash) and 'lēah' (meadow, forest clearing).

As a given name, like most surnames turned into first names, Ashley was originally used only for male children. It was first recorded as a male given first/middle name in the 16th century and remained only male until around 350 years later. It was popularized by Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury 1621-1683 (also known as Lord Ashley). Uses of the boys' name in popular culture are Ashley Wilkes from 1939's Gone with the Wind and Ash Williams (Ashley James Williams) from the 1982 Film Evil Dead. Ashley in the United Kingdom, where it originated, is predominantly male, ranking at #40 in 1996 for boys and staying within the top 100-300 male names given each year. Ashleigh and Ashlee are the spellings more often used for females.

Ashley gained immense popularity as a female first name in the United States in the late 20th century, outranking boys' usage by the 1980s and reaching #1 for girls' usage in 1991. Its rise in popularity is attributed to the female soap opera character Ashley Abbott on The Young and The Restless in 1982.

"Run!" is the fifteenth episode of the first season of the NBC science fiction drama series Heroes. Regular cast members Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli) and Santiago Cabrera (Isaac Mendez) do not appear in this episode.

Plot

Meredith calls and informs Nathan that their daughter Claire is still alive. Aware that the scandal could ruin his political future, Nathan gives Meredith $100,000 for her silence. Elsewhere, Mrs. Bennet's health deteriorates, causing the rift between Claire and Mr. Bennet, since she blames him for her mother's condition. He grounds her after learning she skipped school, prompting Claire to be more outraged. Claire later shows up at Meredith's trailer, hoping that her biological father could help Mrs. Bennet. Meredith tells Claire that he will only disappoint her, and Meredith herself is going back to Mexico. She takes a picture of Claire as remembrance, which she later shows to a visiting Nathan. Meredith offers to introduce them, but Nathan refuses - this crushes an eavesdropping Claire. Visibly upset, Nathan gets inside his limo and leaves. Claire hurls a stone at his rear window in anger.

"Run" is the fifth single to be released from Amy Macdonald's debut album, This Is the Life. The single was released in the UK on 3 March 2008 and peaked at #75 in the United Kingdom for 1 week. Macdonald stated on stage at T in the Park 2008 that the song was inspired by a gig by The Killers in her hometown of Glasgow.
