Poland (Polish: Polska [ˈpɔlska]), officially the Republic of Poland (Polish: Rzeczpospolita Polska, listen ), is a country in Central Europe, bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine and Belarus to the east; and the Baltic Sea, Kaliningrad Oblast (a Russian exclave) and Lithuania to the north. The total area of Poland is 312,679 square kilometres (120,726 sq mi), making it the 71st largest country in the world and the 9th largest in Europe. With a population of over 38.5 million people, Poland is the 34th most populous country in the world, the 8th most populous country in Europe and the sixth most populous member of the European Union, as well as the most populous post-communist member of the European Union. Poland is a unitary state divided into 16 administrative subdivisions.
The establishment of a Polish state can be traced back to 966, when Mieszko I, ruler of a territory roughly coextensive with that of present-day Poland, converted to Christianity. The Kingdom of Poland was founded in 1025, and in 1569 it cemented a longstanding political association with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by signing the Union of Lublin. This union formed the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, one of the largest and most populous countries of 16th and 17th-century Europe. The Commonwealth ceased to exist in the years 1772–1795, when its territory was partitioned among Prussia, the Russian Empire, and Austria. Poland regained its independence (as the Second Polish Republic) at the end of World War I, in 1918.

After Mr. Stubbs' tail was bitten off eight years ago, the alligator learned to survive, but just barely. To provide him with a better quality of life scientists and researchers assembled a team to take on the challenge of fitting Mr. Stubbs with a prosthetic tail.
A “bullied” fish in Missouri has a spring in his swim after he was outfitted with a prosthetic eye by a crafty veterinarian. Kiwi, a lime green saltwater fish, lost his eye after developing a cataract. His vet, Megan Baebler, had to eventually remove the eye, so Kiwi had an open eye flap. According to BuzzFeed, she told the news station that after Kiwi developed the eye problem, the other fish began to attack him. “They figured out which eye was not working. They’d go up behind him, biting his tail." So Baebler came up with a solution. She created Kiwi a fake eye, using a mix of skill and craftiness. She told local television station Fox 2 she actually hand-painted the eye herself, using a mixture of some nail polish and some eye shadow pigments to give it some iridescence. Kiwi then under...

CHESTERFIELD, MO– A one-eyed fish is getting a second shot at life thanks to an unusual, extreme makeover. Kiwi, a seven-year-old saltwater fish, developed a cataract and was getting bullied by his tank mates, owner Julie Morgan said. “They figured out which eye was not working,” Morgan said. “They’d go up behind him, biting his tail. He had chunks of his tail taken out.” Kiwi’s veterinarian, Dr. Megan Baebler of Kersting Veterinary Hospital in Chesterfield, removed the cataract and eventually the eye, leaving the socket open. Baebler came up with an idea to keep Kiwi from being picked on: a prosthetic eye. “I actually hand-painted the eye myself,” she said. “I used a mixture of some nail polish and some eye shadow pigments, actually, to give it some iridescence.” The 9mm solution is ...
GOLDEN, Colo. - Cleopatra's new, 3D-printed shell will protect her and allow her to safely spend time with other tortoises. She arrived at Canyon Critters Rescue in Golden a few years ago with her shell damaged by "pyramiding" or "peaking." It is a condition believed to be caused by a diet containing too much protein, resulting in raised sections on her shell. The peaks became worn as she played or mated with other tortoises, leaving Cleopatra susceptible to infection. But Canyon Critter Rescue owner Nico Novelli had an idea to help Cleopatra have a normal life. He speculated about making a prosthesis during a presentation to a Boy Scout troop and that led him to be introduced to a team at Colorado Technical University. Using several photographing and scanning techniques, the team map...
This was our first trip to Poland and we dove into the capital headfirst. While our travels may have started in the charming Old Town, it wasn't long before we discovered that Warsaw has a cool artsy side. We visited bright neon museums in the art district, shopped in boutiques selling soviet-chic apparel, and got to experience the capital's legendary nightlife. It many ways it was a whirlwind visit, but it was also a fun introduction that made us curious to discover more of Poland in our future travels. The following video will highlight 25 things to do in Warsaw and give you a glimpse into this up and coming capital. Wandering among the endless hills, lakes and mountains of Southeast Poland, one can find cities, medieval castles, grandiose palaces and rich museums, each one more interesting than the previous. The city core of Krakow, with its old streets and squares offer us the feeling of the happy, old days. The Wawel district, which is built on a hill, fort walls and bastions protect the royal palace and the cathedral. The astonishingly great square of the old marketplace is surrounded by medieval houses, and is busy all day and all night. The restaurants tempt the travelers with food prepared from wild mushrooms and berries, game and cabbage. The religious buildings keep the memory of the late Pope, John Paul II. the late Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. From Krakow we can take a trip to the Wiel...
Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city. The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war...
https://www.expedia.com/Warsaw.d178317.Destination-Travel-Guides For centuries Warsaw has been a center of refinement and knowledge. Its strategic position has also made it one of the most invaded countries in Europe. Shaped by history’s defining events, World War Two, and the closing of the Iron Curtain, Warsaw is a survivor, and has risen from the ashes of war and the shackles of Communism. Its true heart is its Old Town, the site of the Warsaw Uprising, one of the most heroic resistance actions ever seen against the nazis. After the war much of it, such as the opulent Royal Castle, was painstakingly rebuilt. One of the few statues not destroyed by the German army, is the mermaid Syrena, the symbol and protector of Warsaw. Visit St Johns Cathedral and St Anne’s Church, whose interio...

Nestled in the foothills of the Tatras, Zakopane is Poland’s most fashionable mountain resort. It’s an excellent base for hiking in summer and skiing in winter, though in high season it can get positively overrun with visitors. In addition to outdoor pursuits, Zakopane is known throughout Poland for the size and beauty of its wooden mountain villas, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of these now house museums, while others have been converted into hotels or pensions, or remain in private hands. Some remain inexplicably abandoned, apparently awaiting suitors with deep enough pockets to restore them to their original splendour.
